I've just bought this Vegan Blend (Jan 2013) in Choc Smooth so it's early days. I switched to this from the Whey Isolate (Choc Smooth) as I read up about Whey protein - lets face it, if your chugging protein shakes 4-6 times per week, that's a few hundred shakes per year! So a plant based protein seemed like a healthier long term option! The taste is not as sweet as people seem to make out (Whey Isolate Choc Smooth is like eating a dunkin donut in comparison!), and I tended to notice the hemp taste coming through the Choc Smooth flavour more! But overall it's bearable either in water or almond milk! The mixability is totally fine, and one scoop in 300ml water is actually quite thick. It's too early to comment on effectiveness, but I have noticed no post-drink phlegm in my mouth (as with the Whey Isolate), and zero bloated feeling or burping! One scoop gives about 22g protein and a little less with the Choc flavour, so it's less than the Whey, but hopefully the absorption rate and health benefits will compensate for that. I will post up results in a months time.

Only for Vegans

Overall:

I bought this Vegan Blend out of interest and because I sometimes have a vegan friend around. Usually I use MP's Total Protein which obviously my friend can't "borrow". The Vegan blend requires at least twice as much water to achieve the same consistency as my previous choice. This isn't an exaggeration, I measured it with weighed protein and water. Even then the texture has a fibrous nature which may just be down to the different origin of the proteins. Taste wise it's "tolerable" with the chocolate flavour masking about 70-90% of the underlying flavour but in no way is the chocolate flavour to the fore or comparable with TP in the same flavour. We'll see if I manage to stick to it and use it before I can comment on effectiveness, but at this stage I would say the only reason to buy this one is because you're a vegan.

Vegan Warrior

Overall:

I got myself 2.5kg of the Vegan Blend unflavored version to aid me in my quest to become a vegan warrior. I tried it with just water initially and it didn't taste nice, nevertheless I downed the lot like a hero. The next day I decided to blend it with half a banana and a teaspoon of honey to try and mask the taste - result! It was actually quite palatable, bordering on slightly pleasant even. No comments on it's effectiveness just yet but I'll report back in a couple of months. It'd probably be better with stevia powder instead of honey though. I didn't want the flavoured version as I don't trust sucralose.

Too many reviews are based on taste alone, or on mixability. These should be secondary considerations when selecting protein or any other sports supplement. More importantly is the results that can be achieved by using the supplement! I have been using Vegan Blend for a number of months now and have seen excellent gains and definition in muscle. I lift moderate weights three times a week and do cardio twice a week. I mix Vegan Blend with Instant Oats from MP for the extra carbs, and sometimes use this mix as a meal replacement. Vegan Blend is an excellent alternative to Whey, and I believe more vegan sports supplements should be on the market. With the moral and environmental aspects associated with mass dairy farming, vegan products should definitely have more investment. Before purchasing a product people should understand what goes into it and how it was made! For those that do want to know about taste/mixabilty: chocolate smooth tastes fantastic and it mixes really well with water.

I recently bought this Myprotein Vegan Blend protein shake as I've been advised by my doctor to avoid dairy. Having bought this, I would recommend it to anyone who cannot have whey. It's very drinkable with water and satisfying after the gym. The nutritional content is bang on for me, only the taste could be improved but honestly I'm probably being picky.

"I recent bought this protein shake as I've been advised by my doctor to avoid dairy. I was previously using BSN Syntha-6 one of the best tasting whey protein shakes. Having bought this, I would recommend it to anyone who cannot have whey. The taste is not as nice as Syntha-6 but still very drinkable with water and satisfying after the gym. The nutritional content is bang on for me, only the taste could be improved but honestly I'm probably being picky. Buy it."

"FINALLY! After several years of downing protein shakes that taste awful, the chocolate flavour Vegan Blend has come along. It's hands down the tastiest protein shake I've ever had (and I've been through pretty much the whole vegan roster, and before going vegan 3 years ago I used to use flavoured whey shakes). I actually look forward to drinking the stuff. I mix it with some sweetened soy milk and enjoy! Brilliant."

"Having tried just about every type of vegan protein powder there is going, I can safely say this tastes the best, mixes the best, and I am very happy with the results. Soya protein might be smoother (like whey), but it's best to avoid this, especially if you're already including other soy products into your diet such as tofu and soya milk. As such I find this a perfect replacement for soya protein, more effective, and tastes a solid 4 out of 5, although like someone else mentioned here already, it is a touch too sweet."

Myprotein Vegan Blend

The chocolate flavour Myprotein Vegan Blend is way too sweet. I've only managed to stomach it by adding twice as much plain yogurt as powder and 1/2 tsp of vitamin C powder to take off some of the sweet edge. I've just ordered the plain one instead and I'll make a syrup from molasses (great for iron and other minerals), low fat cocoa powder, vanilla and water and keep this in the fridge to mix if I want it to have a chocolate flavour. The protein blend itself is good, definitely curbs my hunger, and helps the muscle become more solid and so helps melt the fat - and mixes pretty well using the Myprotein shaker. As a vegan it's difficult to get enough protein when you are working out hard unless you resort to powder or consume way too much soya.
