Bedtime recovery

5
Overall:

I have been using Myprotein whey supplements for a few years now (ISO PRO 97 & Impact whey) and have found both to be effective e.g. they mix well, taste just fine and have proven to be an effective supplement. Up until 8 months ago I would take one of the above immediately after training to aid recovery and assist development of muscle tissue after training, however after reading articles on the best time of day and type of supplements to take I started taking a whey supplement prior to training. As I train first thing in the morning I find this convenient and have definitely noticed improvements in training performance and overall gains in muscle development. I admit the gains are not ground braking, but they exist and are noticeable. So I got to thinking and decided I would start experimenting by taking a Casen protein in the evening, and monitor the results and effects. First off this has certainly helped me resisting from snacking on unhealthy items such as biscuits and cakes etc in the evening, as I eat quite clean during the day and do get the cravings for a sweet snack in the evenings when I know the wife has them hidden in the kitchen cupboard. Secondly I have definitely noticed a difference in the recovery from hard sessions, previously I would be sore (DOMS) for a few days after a particularly tough workout, whereas now I wouldn’t say I was as fresh as a daisy the morning after, however I am able to commit to another good session the following day. OK, now the taste test, I choose chocolate, the taste is fine however does leave a little powdery after tang, but I don’t find this to bad at all as I am usually brushing my teeth and having a glass of water soon afterwards before hitting the sack. The powder mixes fine (I use skimmed milk) and as long as you use a shaker and spend 20 seconds of vigorous agitation leaves no lumps or residue in the shaker. Overall a good supplement that is steadily helping me reach my goals without braking the bank or making me chug down foul tasting concoctions that make me wince and give nightmares.
Goes Well With:
Hard training and clean diet

Foamy but good

Overall:

Mixes easily but becomes very foamy. Also doesn't taste so good but down it fast and as long as it give me what I want who cares. I have tasted worse.
Goes Well With:
Glutamine tropical flavour and waxy mazy starch as last meal supplement of the day.

Tastes as good as casein gets

5
Overall:

Personally hate the taste of casein to normal protein but the chocolate my protein one is the best I've had. It taste a lot smoother and less grainy if you make it and just leave it in the fridge for an hour or so and just have it right before bed.

Very Good

A very good product at an affordable price. Mixes thick since it has a very texture, so needs more liquid to get a smooth shake. But with the right amount there isn't any graininess to it. Flavor is as good as others more expensive.
Goes Well With:
Best mixed with whole milk.

Good protein but lumpy mix

The powder is pretty good - not filling and gives a slow release overnight. It's only let down by the lumpy texture. Even with a powerful blender like Nutribullet, the resulting smoothie is still looking like porridge after a 30sec blast. If texture of the mix is something that would bother you, look for something else. If not, this is a good protein powder for recovery. I can recommend the banana flavour.
Goes Well With:
Water, skim milk, soy milk, yogurt.

Tastes really good but it's a mess to use, like powdered snow seems to go everywhere don't wear black tee when mixing. Would recommend getting a tub to put it in as well. Chalky mix but it's favour is really good and for a finish end up eating the foam. Stuffed after it so works well. Good product got banana favour tastes good.
Goes Well With:
Water and pour into tub to avoid consent spilling/powder everywhere

Excellent supplement, you really notice the difference when you don't hurt as much in morning obviously due to the fact of a high quality protein being drip fed while sleeping

Good taste, foamy mix.

Bought this to keep me full through the night and it has been a fantastic tasting end of day treat. The drawback being that I have to let it sit for 5 mins after shaking it to allow the froth to die down. I take a double scoop after a session of heavy sprints and it has help with my weight loss goals.

Does it's job

The recommendation states, it is optimal for pre-bedtime consumption as it helps a better recovery with it's longer absorption time, and it lives up to that. I use it every evening on the days I have training, and it completely removes the midnight cravings. Also, my muscles feel better in the morning. I ordered the vanilla tasting pouch, but it only has a hint of vanilla - I like the stronger tastes. It does mix well with milk (haven't tried with water yet), like any other MP product, but the resulting taste is not as creamy as I expected.

Good alternative

When I say good alternative, I mean to the Bedtime Extreme option. The casein is much cheaper. Yes I know that there is less protein per serving, but my 1kg casein has lasted way longer than my bedtime extreme. And from what I can tell, with my diet remaining the same when on both, it does the same job. If you really wanted, you could just double the serving of the casein and it would still be a cheaper option. it doesn't mix or taste as good as the bedtime extreme but it's far from horrible. Great option in my opinion.
Goes Well With:
Only tried with water, but I imagine it would work well with milk.
