Awful taste

I wouldn't recommend this product because of its awful taste and bad mixability. Otherwise it has a good nutritional profile and price. I'm not that picky when it comes to taste of protein, but the only way I could drink this was mixing it with banana. Hopefully Myprotein will make a flavoured version in the future.

Well, long story short. Been ill due to Rta /accident lost a lot of weight. Also lactose/gluten intolerant. So nothing to lose I thought. Well four day's in and quick review. Rating 4 stars, could go up or down dependant on longer use effectiveness. Taste 3 stars, neither good nor bad. Plain is the best way of describing it. That is on its own with water. Just to let you know, I like peas. Mixability 5 stars, fantastic just great, no grit, no aftertaste. Effectiveness 4 stars, only four days in, and I have gained 3 pounds, changing nothing else but taking this protein shake. After working out. I now use it with toffee and banana flavdrops, I have also used rice and coconut/rice milk. The taste with rice milk and either of these flavours is fantastic, well up to a creamy rich tasting shake. Will keep mixing and we shall see, fruit etc, etc. So not so short after all!. But if you want to regain some weight and hold onto some definition, with a lacto gluten prob give it a go. Another reviewer mentioned that the product is made in a factory that uses gluten products, my stomach could not tell and believe me it would.. Later.

This tastes awful! The only way I can use it is if I cook with it as i still want to use it. The food has to be spicy too, its fine in chilli or Curry's. As for shakes it tastes like the greenest, grassyiest tasting drink you'll ever have. But in all it does what its supposed to.

Get Used To It

I was highly sceptical before using this product. Since I became vegetarian at the beginning of this year I have been trying to cut down my consumption of dairy products whilst maintaining a reasonable level of protein to maintain (not necessarily build) muscle whilst attending the gym. As a result, pea protein was a highly logical change to make. In reading reviews I became increasingly concerned with the reviews regarding taste, however when I decided I happily eat most things without minding the taste I decided that it was worth a shot as a cheap, more sustainable and healthy (in my opinion) alternative. On first trying the product I must admit the taste was different, it is important to remember unflavoured does not mean no flavour, it does taste uniquely like pea protein. However, those who simply cannot stomach it must have been getting used to these cute soft fruit flavours for a little too long. The taste is not bad, and in my opinion quite good, just accept it, have it for a week and you will soon be drinking it with no problem, and who knows maybe some pleasure. I feel adding to it anything but water is unnecessary as it only makes whatever you add it to taste 'off' or different, something no one is ever ready for. Other than that I have found it highly effective and MyProtein have been as sick as ever!

Don't try mixing with water, as it tastes like mushy peas (without the salt to mask the flavour!) not great after a workout. Mixing with milk masks the taste slightly, however I've found better results with other proteins

It's a little grainy and if not blended thoroughly can have a thick residue, and needs a fruit cordial to make it taste nice, but it's providing adequate protein at a competitive price, and better for the environment than soya. So worth trying if you are vegan like me and require a protean boost for gym practice

Any vegan milk, but with fruit cordial

Excellent For Savoury Flavours

As a vegan lifter, I was advised to mix pea and soy proteins for a better range of aminos. This powder is not ideal for sweet or dessert smoothies if you don't add intense flavouring and sweeteners to it. However, it is EXCELLENT for baking- the flour-like consistency is a great binder and yields satisfying protein breads, pancakes and cookies (example- mixed with oats, maple syrup, cinnamon, walnuts and raisins - fab cookies). I also found it an great thickener for savoury soups and Asian dishes. Given its nutty flavour, I mixed it into a paste with chestnuts and some stevia and use it as a low fat peanut butter-like spread with berry jelly on toast. It's very filling and a great protein source - if you're creative, you'll adore it.

Good mixed with fruit and cocoa powder

This is great because it doesn't contain any gluten or dairy. I was a bit disappointed when I tried mixing it as a plain protein shake as it really isn't pleasant and I couldn't even take one mouthful without heaving! BUT now I've tried to mix a few things with it and I am using these as an after workout protein bump. Try these two tasty recipes with 28g of Pea Protein: 250ml Alpro Original Almond Milk (sweetened) 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder OR 250ml Alpro Unsweetened Almond Milk 1 Banana 4-5 pieces frozen mango 4-5 pieces frozen pineapple Handful Fresh Spinach
