THG Wins Circular Economy Transition Of The Year — Environmental Finance Award
The Myprotein factory in Warrington is a well-oiled machine. It runs all day, every day, handling several hundred tons of whey protein and producing thousands of products every single week.
One problem with making so many products is that some don’t meet our rigorous quality standards. But that doesn’t mean they go to waste. That’s why we teamed up with recycling specialists MYgroup.
Myprotein were awarded the Sustainable Business Award for Circular Economy Transition Of The Year by Environmental Finance for an innovative upcycling initiative with MYgroup, here's all the info.
Since our partnership began, together we have successfully prevented 156 tonnes of our nutrition supplements from going to waste, instead being repurposed into fish food pellets and animal feed. We have also reused 31 tonnes of cardboard for packaging, while 28 tonnes of plastic have gone into making children’s furniture and buckets.
The initiative is part of wider plans set out in THG’s sustainability strategy, THG x Planet Earth, to eliminate landfill waste from its own operations by 2030.
THG Chief Sustainability Officer, Mark Jones, said: “I am incredibly proud of the teams at THG who identified a problem and came up with an innovative solution."
Judges from the Environmental Finance Sustainable Company Awards also praised the partnership, saying it is “an excellent initiative that delivers tangible positive environmental outcomes as well as a positive economic impact in reducing waste costs for the company and providing a useful raw material for MYgroup”.
Everyone at THG is absolutely committed to achieving our 2030 goals, and we can’t wait to see how the project evolves.
