Why Our Protein Prices Have Increased

Whey protein products are among the most popular we offer, but you might’ve noticed recently that some products are more expensive than before. There have been increases in supply chain and ingredient costs caused by the ongoing global pandemic, and these have (unfortunately) affected the whole industry.

So far, we’ve made sure that products like snacks and clothing have been unaffected. We’ve also not increased delivery prices since 2018 and absorbed costs elsewhere whenever possible.

However, with costs continuing to rise and showing no sign of settling soon, we've had to further increase certain RRPs. This means we'll be able to maintain high-quality product to support your goals, and of course we'll still have our sales and discounts all year round.

One thing we’re committed to is never compromising on quality, so we’ll always use the best ingredients, manufacture to the highest standards, and make sure our products are free of impurities. That's why many of our whey protein products are certified by Informed Choice.

When costs come down, we'll review and adjust our prices to give our customers the best possible deals.

You probably still have a lot of questions, so we’re going to answer them here.

Why have whey protein prices increased?

There are a few reasons why whey protein prices have increased. Here are the main issues that have affected us:

Ingredient price increase

The cost price of some ingredients has significantly increased in recent years. Let's look at sweet whey protein as an example. SWP has gone up by 87% in the past two years alone. We’ve absorbed costs where we can (but this isn’t always possible).

Shortage of truck drivers

There is also a shortage of truck drivers, making product transportation much more difficult and expensive.

Demand is outstripping supply

Consumer demand for whey protein is currently far outstripping supply. This means whey protein is in incredibly high demand throughout the whole industry.

Why has our protein price increased?

The price of whey protein to us has more than doubled in recent months, with average costs going up more than 60% in the last year.

These costs have been felt across the industry, so our prices remain competitive, but with no sacrifice to the quality of your product.

How can you keep your costs down?

Whey isn’t the only option for high-quality protein — why not try some of our whey alternatives?

Whey Protein Alternatives:

Milk Protein

Milk protein is a hugely underrated protein. Sourced from ultra-skimmed milk it delivers 23g of quality protein with minimal fat (0.4g) and sugar (1.3g). This makes it a great option for your cut, or just leaves you with a few extra calories up for grabs through the rest of your day.

Egg White Powder

Eggs are packed with protein, so it’s no surprise Egg White Powder protein is a great option for anyone looking for a whey alternative. With 23g of protein per serving, as well as zero fat and zero sugar, you’ll be getting the benefit of protein without the calories.

Whether you want to make pancakes with it, scrambled eggs or simply use it as a post-workout shake, this one’s a great option.

Vegan Protein Blend

Plant-based protein is one of the best alternatives to whey. And we’ve recently created the Vegan Protein Blend to get optimal texture, taste and nutritionals all in a vegan shake.

The Vegan Protein Blend delivers 22g of protein, just 0.6g of fat and 1.1g of sugar per serving. It also contains a complete amino acid profile — something that’s usually hard to get from a vegan protein powder.

Soy Protein

Soy Protein is another great plant-based alternative to whey. It’s got a huge 27g of protein per serving as well as just 0.5g of fat and 0.2g of sugar.

Clear Vegan

If you prefer something lighter post-workout, Clear Vegan protein is the way to go. 10g of protein, just 54 calories per serving, and added vitamins and minerals, this is a great all-rounder.

Supersize

Make sure you’re getting value for money by supersizing. Whether that’s one of our vegan proteins or whey, you’ll always be getting more protein for your money by going for 5kg rather than 1kg.

Take home message

The ongoing global pandemic has caused significant supply chain cost increases, so we’ve kept prices as low as possible, but some of the rising costs can be found in the price of some of our products.

The good news is our products are still among the most competitively priced and highest quality available on the market, and we’ll continue to offer great discounts regularly throughout the year. And when these costs come down, we'll review and adjust our prices to give you the best possible deals.
