Perfect for summer, these honey BBQ wings from Niall Kirkland are baked to get that perfect crispy skin and then tossed in an irresistibly sticky, punchy sauce. If the sun’s out and you’re after an even more authentic smoky BBQ taste, we definitely recommend firing up those coals and cooking them on the grill rather than baking in the oven.

The homemade sauce might take you a few more minutes than just going for a shop-bought one, but trust us, the flavours make it absolutely worth it. It’s made with our Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce too, ideal for keeping down the calorie count and reducing your sugar intake.

We recommend serving up with some of your favourite BBQ sides like corn on the cob and potato salad. Or, they work just fine as a tasty snack on their own with plenty of soured cream & chive dip.

Makes 20 wings

Ingredients

For the chicken wings:

  • 20 wings
  • 2 tbsp. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. garlic granules
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • ½ tbsp. coconut oil

For the honey BBQ sauce:

  • 150ml Sugar-Free Sauce (BBQ)
  • 2 tbsp. tomato ketchup
  • 4 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. hot sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic granules

Optional extras:

  • Chives to garnish
  • Soured cream & chive dip

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F.
  2. First pat dry the chicken wings using a paper towel, then transfer to a large bowl. Coat wings in plain flour, then mix together smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic granules, salt, and black pepper before adding to wings and tossing until completely coated in seasoning.
  3. Transfer wings to 2 lined baking trays, splitting into two batches, brush or spray with coconut oil, and then bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  4. Meanwhile, mix together the honey BBQ sauce ingredients until fully combined. Once wings are baked, remove from oven and drizzle with honey BBQ sauce. Using tongs, flip your wings to coat in sauce and then once completely coated, bake for a final 5 minutes and then remove.
  5. Garnish with chives and serve immediately — they go perfectly with soured cream chive dip.
