Bread is one of those beloved things I gave up a few years ago. To be honest I only occasionally miss eating bread, but for others with a love for savoury snacks there’s nothing better than chomping down on a warm piece of bread fresh from oven. Most breads bought from the supermarket even those described as “wheat2 and “whole grain” undergo a high degree of processing, removing all the whole grain goodness and chance of consume a decent source of fibre. Not only this but many bought breads contain sugar which is a no go situation for those of us with strict diets.


You may not know this, but in the UK adults are recommended to consume around 18g of fibre a day… similar to the well known “5-a-day” this recommendation is not met! Fibre is not an “essential” macronutrient, but studies have shown it can reduce the risk of bowl cancer, whilst also helping individuals to lose weight and regulate bowel movements. Therefore, with cases of bowel cancer on the rise this brings a cause for concern in the UK.


Okay, okay… enough of the lecturing- with this healthy bread recipe you can fix your bread cravings whilst getting a fantastic source of fibre, with 0g of sugar and even some protein kicking in there!




For this recipe you’ll need Myprotein Kamut flour. Kamut flour is different from normal plain and self raising flours, kamut flour is made from durum wheat and is a lot more nutritious than other flours, providing over 15g of protein per 100g with a high content of selenium, zinc and magnesium. You can substitute this flour for other alternatives such as Amaranth and Buckwheat flour.


An essential ingredient here is Psyllium Husks. Psyllium husks are a component that is often removed during processing, where just 10g (2 teaspoons) can provide a massive 7.4g of fibre! Myprotein Psyllium husks are low in price and can be found Here.


Here’s a list of all the ingredients you’ll need:


180g of kamut flour

5 teaspoons of psyllium husks

200ml of cold water

50g of sunflower seeds

15g of almonds

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon Garlic powder

½ a teaspoon of coconut oil

Step One


Start by preheating your oven to 175 degrees Celsius and greasing your loaf tin with coconut oil.


Step Two


In food processor combine your Kamut flour, psyllium husks, almonds and sunflower seeds. Blend the mix until all mixed together, about 45 seconds (this bit is needed to blend and chop the almonds and seeds).

Step 3


Mix in your garlic and itialian seasoning (I also added some fresh basil) and SLOWLY add your COLD water, hand stirring it into the dry mix. Eventually you should have a nice ball of dough produced!

Make sure the mix is NOT runny at all. If it is add a bit more flour of psyllium husks! Leave the Dough for about 5 minutes.

The Cooking


Into your greased tin place your dough and press down with a spatula… or your hands!

Place in the over for 45 minutes to an hour until the top is browned.

The Eating


Slice and enjoy with a small amount of butter or even better some fresh avocado! Feel free to add other seed to the mix such as chi seeds and pumpkin seeds.
