Suffering with a sore, bloated stomach?

Follow these top 5 tips from Myprotein Ambassador Sophie Aris to remove any discomfort you are experiencing!

Tip #1: Stay hydrated

Feeling like you've scoffed a packet of biscuits but can't figure out why? It might just be dehydration!

Avoid water retention by keeping hydrated throughout the day - most people don't realise how important water is...for making your body not hold onto any water.

? Fill up a tall shaker or a bottle of water and carry it around in your bag - it might sound silly but you'll be more likely to actually keep hydrated if you don't have to go and buy a bottle of water from the shop!

? Pop some flavoured BCAA's (Branch Chain Amino Acids) in your plain water for a delicious, refreshing taste - that way you'll end up drinking more. BCAA's are also great supplements for muscle-recovery, therefore you'll also be helping yourself feel better after a tough training session!

Tip #2: Keep a food diary

Getting a painful bloated stomach at random times during the day?

Jotting down your meals can help you find out what foods don't agree with your body.

It may be little things causing stomach pain; one ingredient in a different brand of your favourite food might be causing the bloat.

? Monitoring all meals (and drinks!) is a quick, effective way of eliminating the cause of your sore tummy!

Tip #3: Limit artificial sweeteners

Your favourite sugar-free treats may prevent you from binge eating on sugary, fat-laden snacks, but they might just be the culprit of your constant bloated stomach!

? Artificial sweeteners are fine to have occasionally, however, if you consume an abundance of them every day, you might experience stomach discomfort due to your body finding it difficult to digest them.

? Rather than going cold-turkey, try and limit yourself to so many of them each day to see if your bloated belly benefits from the change.

Tip #4: Find a way to de-stress

Feeling up-tight can actually be the cause of a painful stomach... believe it or not.

Your body needs to be in a relaxed state to digest your food properly, therefore if you're always stressed out, you may consistently have that 'food baby' bloat!

? Creating a little down-time to relax, even for 10-minutes a day, may help reduce your stress-related tension.

? Try a yoga class, a bit of meditation, a stroll at lunch or in the evening - even spend a few minutes of your day to step outside and take a few deep breaths. These small actions might just allow your body to find it easier to digest your food.

Tip #5: Hot lemon water

A cup of hot water with a slice of lemon is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to try and reduce a bloated stomach.

Lemons can actually be great for neutralising stomach acid!

? Drink a hot cup of water and lemon first thing in the morning and/or last thing at night and see if it helps reduce bloating.

? Don't like lemon? Give peppermint tea a whirl!
