Luke and Tom Stoltman are no strangers to big achievements. Luke won the title of Europe’s Strongest Man in 2021, and Tom Stoltman is the two-time reigning World’s Strongest Man. However, their newest titles are a different type of success.

Luke and Tom attended a ceremony at their hometown university, the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Inverness, to be awarded honorary titles in recognition of their sporting achievements. The brothers received Sporting Blue awards and also gave a speech to the graduating students.

What is a Sporting Blues Award?

The Sporting Blues highlight outstanding sporting achievements. There are many different types of Sporting Blues awards, ranging from UHI Inverness’s own students who compete at university level up to athletes who compete at world championship level.

Launched in 2017, the awards recognise sporting achievements from a wide range of athletes with a connection to UHI Inverness. The Stoltman brothers join an impressive list of alumni, including Scottish footballer Graeme Shinnie and wheelchair basketball player Ben Lietch.

Celebrating the Wins

Luke took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the award, calling it “a very special day.” He also said it was “something I never thought possible but extremely grateful” and took the opportunity to thank “our amazing wives for supporting us as always.”

Tom said it was “surreal” to receive the award and called it “a day to remember” for everybody involved.

The brothers got an opportunity to share their experiences with the graduating class, thanking the Highland community for supporting them throughout their careers.

Despite being booked and busy, Tom and Luke made time in their schedule to help celebrate the achievements of the students of UHI Inverness as well as their own. Championing other athletes and celebrating the wins is exactly what sports is about.
