Branched Chain Amino Acids are essential amino acids which contain a 2:1:1 ratio of Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. These amino acids are considered to be essential as they cannot be synthesised by the body, so must be consumed from dietary sources.
During exercise amino acids become more important as it is difficult to maintain the desired levels from food alone. With this powder you can reach optimum levels of branch chain amino acids in a quick and easy way.
Amino acids can be consumed throughout the day for or before, during and after workouts.
They're generally consumed by active individuals and are suitable for anyone taking part in intense training or exercise.
5 grams of BCAA's can be consumed 2-4 times daily. You can consume by mixing with water, or for best results add 2 MP small scoops to your favourite fruit juice or pre/post workout shake.
Add your preferred amount of water or fruit juice into our shaker. Then add 5g, shake and consume. Use 2-4 times daily for optimal results.
Note: We advise that all servings are measured using an accurate set of scales. While we make every attempt to provide an accurate equivalent measure using our Myprotein scoops, these are only approximate and are not a substitute for using a standardised measuring device.

I am 30 years old, 12 years lifting experience and 10 years as a PT. I have cut around 5x never with this supplement. Previously I have noticed some muscle and strength loss which I thought was inevitable. This time I thought I would try using branched chain amino acids to prevent catabolism of my muscle tissue which studies have claimed it does. I started with about 15g a day, one upon waking, one pre workout and one during workout. Over the next few weeks this did seem to slow or completely prevent muscle breakdown in a calorie deficit. I read more and more studies suggesting that more BCAAs would enhance the muscle preservation and strength so increased my doseage to 40mg for the last few weeks. Well... Some things happened I did not expect. I have more muscle fullness, INCREASED strength and think that I may have actually gained a slight amount of muscle! It also seems to have accelerated my fat loss and my recovery has been immense considering I am a natural trainer, train 6 days a week, in a calorie deficit with about 6.5 hours sleep a night. I have tried fat burners, test boosters, pre workouts blah blah etc etc but this is now my favorite supplement. A must if you are dieting IMO and want to maintain hard earned muscle.Goes Well With:Everything
Theis is a warning. Always go for a flavoured version and mix it with water. The unflavoured is horrific. It's like chewing fistfuls of aspirin. If you add it to a flavoured shake it removes all the original flavour and makes the whole thing really bitter and gag-inducing.
Effectiveness - I've used BCAA's from myprotein in the past and am very happy with the results I get from them. I always put in 110% effort on every workout and as a result have formed an intimate relationship with DOMS. Taking BCAAs lessens the duration and intensity of DOMS by a fair amount, making me able to hit that area again sooner - I train everything twice a week. I can't comment on muscle retention during cutting as I haven't had the need to cut yet. Eat right and you can just keep building lean muscle year round. Flavour - Previously I had some tropical flavour, this time I thought I'd live on the edge a little and ordered Blue Raspberry. Don't get me wrong, its perfectly palatable (if a bit too sweet and not at all raspberry flavoured), I just didn't expect it to be so...blue. I feel like I'm drinking a magic potion from World of Warcraft, and a couple of regulars have very helpfully pointed out that ink is for writing with, not drinking. It does go nicely with the lid of my MP shaker though. There's always a silver lining. Goes Well With:Water, MP blue branding, smurfs.
Really enjoying my experiments with BCAA's - seems to be providing exactly the boost I needed for quicker recovery and preservation of muscle mass whilst dropping calories. As a girl I'm not looking to get super swole, just to tone up, lean up and bump up my muscle size without getting bulky. This product has definitely helped me to train harder and longer. I'm seeing really impressive results and increased capacity on heavy weights and reps with a significant reduction in BF% and better definition. I have watermelon flavour which is good but pretty sweet. Mixes relatively easily but needs a lot of shaking.
This BCAA product is effective, the flavoured version is always much more palatble and easier to mix than unflavoured. However I just purchased watermelon flavour and it is so sickly sweet I would never buy that flavour again. I previously had 'berry blast' flavour and I would definitely recommend that one. I don't understand why My Protein uses all these hideous additives and colourings to make the drink a synthetic 'watermelon' colour. I would much prefer to have a product with the least amount of additives possible especially one for a BCAA - I don't choose to drink it based on how appealing the colour of my drink is.Goes Well With:water
I always lose muscle with running or cardio but since I have taken this supplement it has solved this issue. I've noticed that I keep my muscle after long runs and my body fat has dropped. It works really well with intermittent fasting and lean diets.
I ordered the unflavoured variety in the hopes it would allow me flexibility in mixing it with other things and switching up flavours. I was wrong. The unflavoured variety has a very strong distinctive taste. Bitter, salty and chemically. Mix it with water and it'll make you cry and want to remove your tongue and rip your face off as it's so disgusting. Mix it with protein, flavour drops, fruit juice etc and you'll have the same reaction with the added disappointment that you've just wasted your protein/ flavouring/juice. I can't say if it's effective as I couldn't drink a full serving. Anything more than a sip and it induces vomiting as my housemate found out. I mixed it with 30 drops of strawberry flavouring (7-10 is recommended), a scoop of strawberry whey protein and water, no improvement whatsoever, there's no hiding the taste. However the Sour Apple BCAA is quite drinkable. So I've ordered Cherry Limeade in the hopes that'll be good too. Like the sour apple mypre, unflavoured BCAA is gathering dust on my kitchen shelf awaiting the arrival of unwanted visitors as it'll undoubtedly make them leave if served as a drink.Goes Well With:Tongue amputation
Sour apple flavour is not as sour as i had hope, it is far to sweet, almost slickly. the apple flavour is there but its meant to be sour apple, that makes your lips smack and pucker, not apple so sweet you can barely drink it. please make it more sour/tarte.
Well I am 37 (getting on) and been trying to be a muscle god for over 20 years failing miserable lol. My main issues have been recovery and fatigue. I have nearly finished my first pack and well I have seen some amazing results. Recovery for is now minor issues as I have been taking this supplement before workout , after and just before sleep. The first set with these amino acids actually gave me a ridiculous buzz (dont know why) then I notice fatigue was no near what I had prevously felt. As alway got a cold and was off for about 8 days. On coming back as always I would have ridiculous chest pains on recovery and again these were practically non existent with branched chain amino acids. Again I had an insane buzz on starting training after drinking the supplement. Th buzz could be a placebo effect but I really do think that My body has probably always needed a boost. Loving training again and would reccomend adding BCAA to your diet even if you a 2 to 3 times gym goer , i am now able to go 6 days a week with no issues on recovery. I am taking IMPACT WHEY Protein Isolate as well twice a day while dieting. ******* The key to mixibility is put in a shaker with around 200 -300 ml shake well, let stand for 2 mins and cloudyness goes and it blends with any liquid.Goes Well With:Whey Impact Isolate, Water , dilute Ribena ( or any other berry cordial :)
This is a great addition to any nutritional regime, add these essential amino acids to your training programme and increase your progress. In my programme I take two table spoons before training and the same after. There is a method to this, which is to gather a table spoon full from the pouch and put it in your mouth and have a glass of water to hand and take enough water to swallow the powder in one. I would not recommend mixing this with a shake though, just get it down in one, you know you are not buying this for it to taste nice, but just get it down and see results with training.Goes Well With:Whey protein but do not mix it, though add this to your nutritional programme.
TRIED A SMALL BAG OF THIS IN BLUE RASBERRY TO SEE IF ITS ANY DIFFERENT TO TAKING THE "HUGE" BCAA TABLETS. WELL I WILL START WITH THE FLAVOUR BLUE RASBERRY IS VERY SWEET BUT TASTES AMAZING LIKE BUBBLEGUM PANDA POPS I DRANK AS A CHILD MMMMM, AFTER MY FIRST TASTE I WENT AND BROUGHT 2X 1 KG BAGS OF THIS STUFF! HAVE NOW BEEN USING THIS FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS HAVING 2 DRINKS A DAY SIPPING ONE WHILST WEIGHT TRAINING AND MIXING WITH 500-600ML WATER, I FIND THIS IS 100X BETTER THAN TAKING BCAA TABLETS, NO SORENESS WHILST TRAINING AND NO SORENESS AFTER TRAINING AT ALL WHICH MEANS I CAN TRAIN CONFIDENTLY EVERY DAY WITHOUT WORRY OF ACHES AND PAINS! WOULD RECCOMEND THIS 100% TO ANY SERIOUS GYM GOER CAN NOT COMMENT ON OTHER FLAVOURS BUT THE BLUE RASBERRY IS 10/10 FOR ME THANKS MY PROTEINGoes Well With:WATER 500-600ML HARD TRAINING
I've been using this no fuss, to the point powdered form for a couple of years now. I don't see the point in all those flavoured products or having it in capsules, it is what it is, as powder, shake it with some water and drink it.... I recommend this to anyone. I find this product especially useful as I don't eat meat, so despite all the careful attention to my nutrition it is still hard to hit all my needs in terms of amino intake.
This powder is extremely effective at what it is designed to do, and really helps me to maintain my muscle mass during cutting periods. Having recently just completed a cut, coming down from around 89KG - to 81KG, Branched Chain Amino Acids really helped me to maintain my muscle size, density and strength. Even managed to squeeze more reps out on the 50KG dumbbells! Yes, a lot of my weight was probably water retention, but I lost that and maintained easily with this product. Consuming one serving as soon as I wake up, one before/during my workout, one serving after and one before bed with Casein I find this really aids my recovery. I opted for the unflavoured version as being a student, every saving of money helps and the taste shouldn't bother you, just get it down and quit whinging!
I am an intermediate level weight trainer, female, 5'7", 130 pounds. I am on a slight calorie deficit as we head to the Spring- 1600, 40/40/20. I just don't know yet if this is effective. I take it pre and post workout. Have been using it a couple of weeks. I definitely am still making gains despite the calorie drop which is apparently unheard of but I am also taking Creatine so I am not sure which is doing the trick- maybe both. The taste is gross but I got unflavoured so I could mix with my post protein. I hear all BCAAs taste vile so I don't think it's just this one. It makes me dry heave to be honest. Goes Well With:Coffee is the only thing that dulls the bitterness.
Effective product for taking between meals, pre/intra and or post workout (I have personally have it pre-mixed in a bottle of water to take during my workout) or before bed depending how much Aminos intake you want or need daily. Have noticed I can maintain more lean muscle and strength gains by taking this on a daily basis. As I chose unflavoured it will taste a little on the bitter side but if you mix it with water in a mixer shaker or in a bottle and give it a good shake it blends into the water and you can't really taste the bitterness any more. I'd suggest taking it purely with water and not mixed with your protein shakes etc as it will get to your muscles and blood stream quicker. Good value for money also - give it a try you will not be disappointed :) as long as your diet and protein, carb and caloric intake is on track it will be the icing on the cake for your progress.Goes Well With:Water
Ok.....this product isn't cheap gramme for gramme....however, I find cheap = waste of money! time & effort. So...considering the muscle fullness I'm feeling on 20g a day: 5 on waking 10 pre workout & 5 during workout, I am happy with his product. Flavour is naff as is the unnecessary nasty colouring which stains your skin etc...(don't get powder on wet hands!) (lemon & lime). Mixability is excellent. However, we buy these products for results....this works!Goes Well With:Cold Water
Great product and can see and feel the effectiveness however unflavored is tastes horrible and struggle to finish it all as i cannot bare the taste, recommend to get a flavor!!
Only been using it for 2 weeks now and I can already noticed how quickly my muscles have developed in the short space of time since using the product. The raspberry lemonade flavour tastes excellent and mixes well too!Goes Well With:Water
I ve ordered the unflavoured one and it mixes very good with 200 ml water. My muscles recover faster too.The only problem is that the powder smells so bad it reminds me of my dogs food(eww). When mixed with water it doesnt smell at all but when i open the bag it smells awfull.I dont know why noone else mentioned it, i hope my powder is not outdated!
Recovery is okay but I literally could not get it to mix. Put into my mixer with the metal mixer shook for ages. I then used a fork andspoon but the ppowder just clumped and settled. Taste is vile I could just about stomach it. Don't think I will continue to use this product.
I think a lot of people are giving this a bad review because they're not allowing enough time for the powder to actually mix in. I put 2scoops in a 500ml bottle and fill it up with water, give it a 5mins rest, a quick shake and it tastes like a very diluted squash drink!! I can't say I've noticed a change in my recovery time just yet, but I'll stick at it and see how my results improve. Goes Well With:water
I have used BCAA for every gym session since buying and was dubious but am happy to say I was wrong! I am able to push harder and heavier in the gym and am still losing fat but the gains in muscle are really spurring me on to carry on! Excellent product and I recommend it for everyoneGoes Well With:Water or fruit juice! I use water as it is already very sweet
I purchased the unflavoured version as i'm not too fond of the idea of consuming artificial sweeteners too often unless it's Stevia. I noticed that the flavours available were all strong sour citrus flavours, which i thought was interesting. Of course the logic behind this became all too clear once I had experienced the pleasure of the scent and taste of the unflavoured version. The scent can only be described as beef monster munch soaked in feline urine. Mercifully, the taste is far less exotic and is simply extremely bitter. Which of course explains the aforementioned citrus flavoured alternatives. Gods be praised, as the taste can be masked by just a small amount of orange juice. However, any attempts to hide this foul beast with water or milk will prove futile. As for the effectiveness, I have been consuming this for a few weeks and it dawned on me the other day that I have not been feeling anywhere near as achey after my workouts. I feel like I have been recovering faster too. At first i thought i may have been slacking but the truth is i have been working out harder than ever. Seems like this beast may be beautiful on the inside after all. Perhaps I will get a flavoured version next time. Goes Well With:Orange juice
I went with unflavoured. The leucine makes this very bitter! I can't stress this enough! I found citrus squash such as lemon + lime or orange works best to remove the taste. Are they necessary? If you are a vegetarian or a vegan then yes as you won't have a full protein spectrum (although you should consider where / how the BCAAs are produced if you are a v--an for moral reasons ...) Otherwise no in all honesty if you have regular protein meals. Saying that, my workouts often take ~3 hours as I like to use them as a time to relax and catch-up with friends. Best used throughout the workout as a sipping drink. Will be trying flavoured next time assuming the sugar content is not too high.Goes Well With:Citrus flavours.
So i bought previously bought the pills with the intention of speeding up the recovery of my patellar tendonitis and its definitely done the trick !! so i purchased the powder form hoping if i have regularly it will hopefully prevent further attacks. flavour is vile .... very sweet almost like drink water flavoured with sugar and paracetamol .... colour is very artificial which made it less appealing, had issues mixing it at first , tried my best, ending up leaving it for 1/2 and hr , much easier to mix ..... DO NOT TRY MIXING IN A GLASS .... use a shaker ... you will require a whisk too lol !! will probably stomach it very very diluted but its definitely a case of hold your nose and chug I'm afraid !! .... will probably try the tropical version hoping for a better taste :) Goes Well With:lots and lots of water , a whisk, shaker bottle, lots of time , and pinched nose and a good chug !!
Does exactly what it's supposed to and I highly recommend the blue raspberry flavour - tastes a bit like blue powerade. Goes Well With:Water
I have had this in 'berry blast' flavour, which is quite nice. I then decided to re-order some in a new flavour 'cherry limeade' - don't. This is awful. The taste is hideous and it leaves a powdery effect in your mouth. Learnt my lesson: stick to what you know! Also, tip of anyone with IBS, this isn't the best product for our stomachs and I've since started to take BCAAs in tablet form due to the amount of sweeteners in this and have found this has helped me a lot.
Mixes really well in water. I was a bit worried about the flavour from other reviews and it is artificial and a bit sweet but not unpleasant, the mango flavour doesn't really come through thoughGoes Well With:Water
Lovely tasting product , easy to drink Goes Well With:Orange with water
First time I used powder form BCAA's they tasted awful and put me off so I switched to capsule form and didn't really notice any difference in training. After much deliberation I ordered some watermelon flavour after it was recommended to me. I couldn't believe how nice and refreshing it tastes and has noticeably improved training sessions. Feeling more power and durance with these. Can't recommend enough. I'm actually boosting loads about it at the gym.
Taste was so horrific so I don't honestly know if it's effective.
I have just purchased my first BCAA powder (used BCAA tablets before). This is a very effective product and I would like to give it 5* stars, but the taste is very artificial and the colour is totally unnecessary. I have tried the sour apple, it isn't sour at all and tastes very sweet, I struggled to drink it, so pinched my nose and downed it in one go. People say you don't buy it for the flavour, and I agree, but it's slightly gag inducing. Will definitely try a different flavour next time. Goes Well With:Water
Unfortunately can't review effectiveness as I gave it away due to the awful taste of sour apple absolutely horrible could not stand to have a 2nd attempt. I can pretty much stomach anything when it comes to supplements knowing its for a good cause however this is where I draw the line. Try Scivation XTEND strewberry and kiwi the best tasting BCAA powder I have ever tasted Goes Well With:The bin
Bought this in the sour apple flavour. Mega disappointed. The taste is so sweet and artificial. The colour is an off putting green/brown and the product mixes to an almost syrupy texture. It was very difficult to drink and didn't have a great effect on my performance. I used this once and I'll never use it again. Expected more from MyProtein considering the high price tag. There are much nicer products available for a few euro more.
Ok short and simple and covering the bases: Flavour: delicious and mixes well and tastes awesome with water Amount: depends on your training but MP online helpers are fantastic and guided me as to the amount I need to take based on my other nutrition and training type. Effectiveness: too soon to tell as just returned to training but taking this in conjunction with protein and increased nutrition so hopefully will see the benefits soon. Price: as always MP have awesome prices and lots of discount codes so haven't go elsewhere since buying from MP. All the best everyone!!!Goes Well With:Water
First time user of My protein. Went for the Cherry Limonade 1kg bag which is fantastic value. I would say the taste is to be acquired but you soon get used to it. I'm a big believer in BCAAs for muscle gain and recovery and have no complaints with My proteins BCAAs which have helped add definition to my size.
Had ordered the BCAA Sour Apple flavour, was looking forward to having something to drink post workout and was disappointed as it was sweet in taste and no sour to it at all. However the powder did mix well after a few good shakes overall the flavour is nothing like as advertised.. Not sour but sweet Mp could have just called this one sweet apple rather then putting out a product that does not deliver as advertised. Although I do the best flavour I had tasted so far would be the Berry Blast.
I have almost finished my first batch of BCAA, and have just ordered another. I terms of training I have made noticble lean gains, and have found them particularly useful for use during intermittent fasting. I bought the unflavoured variety, and yes it is a little bitter on its own but not to the point where it's undrinkable. Mixed with Impact Whey and Flavdrops I didn't notice an adverse effect on taste. On its own with water you need to give a pretty vigorous shake to get it mixed up, but in with you normal pre or post workout shake no problems. Overall an excellent supplement with good results. Goes Well With:Water, Impact whey.
I like the berry blast flavour but don't ever buy the blue raspberry. I had one sip of this and never wanted to taste it again - worst, more artificial flavour in the world. I threw it away it was so bad. Goes Well With:nothing.
Great supplement, find the mix ability quite poor with water but overall it's a great supplant for retaining muscle mass Goes Well With:Impact whey protein
A bit dissatisfied because this was recommended for my goals through live chat. Upon further research, realised it doesn't suit me
I purchased a 250g bag of the blue raspberry flavor and tried it out once and completely fell in love with it and purchased another kilo. the flavor is amazing! just make sure you dont add too much powder otherwise it becomes very sickly. it looks cool because it is literally bright blue! the overall effectiveness is amazing too. a very good product all together.Goes Well With:water
Tastes exactly like KIA black grape which used to be one of my favourite soft drinks, will definitely be buying more in future.
bought the grape flavor bcaa, and the taste is absolutely amazing. I enjoy drinking it as a juice during my workouts and in the mornings as well. Had a few injuries, and it helps recovery speed up. will definitely be buying another pack after this, have plenty of flavors to try :) highly recommend it.Goes Well With:water!!
I have been adding 10g of BCAA and 5g of Creatine to my Morning, Pre Workout and Post Workout Protein Shakes. The results have been very noticeable. Energy levels and Strength have gone up and my Fat Levels are going down. The addition of the BCAA is the only change to my diet and routine that i have made in the last 6 weeks. I use the Unflavoured Powder so the taste is not an issue and it mixes very well with my Protein Shakes.Goes Well With:Whey Protein Creatine
Excellent product excellent effectivness
This product scores 10 out 10 on effectiveness, it is a must have. Choose the flavored one as unflavored tastes like hell. IF you can afford a few more pound, go with iBCAA which provides everything this ingredient gives plus tastes really good.
Hey myprotein-users Its a great product, but the taste is not that great (unflavored). The ones with flavor is 100 times better!
"Cannot say anything about effectiveness, because I've always been using this product as my pre and post workout drink and I do not know how would I feel without drinking it. But I believe BCAA is the same no matter where you buy it. And I buy it from MYPROTEIN because of the huge price difference. I do want to comment on taste however. This is something terrible you put in your mouth. Screw those who say man up and swallow it. Yeah, ok, you swallow it and go to gym only to have that terrible chemical after taste in your mouth. At first i was going to throw this BCAA in the bin and buy myself BCAA capsules which are almost 3 times the price. BUT!!!!, I FOUND A SOLUTION that works miracle for me!!! I mixed it with grape juice. I can barely feel the taste of BCAA. I get grape juice from lidl, which is all together is still much cheaper than buying capsules."
"So I bought the 500g version, thinking I could pretty much take any bad supplement. I mean I drink Olive Oil by the tablespoon, so how bad could this stuff be!?... Well.. its TOTALLY AWFUL!!! I have no doubt it will give good results, but if you cant even mix it, or handle the vile taste how the heck you gonna take it!??... Trust me, get the capsules!!!"
