I've been using hemp protein for a while and find it the nicest tasting of the non-dairy proteins. Mixed with a bit of almond milk its a great tasting milkshake.
Looks gross, tastes gross. But it works. I mix with MyProtein pea protein powder in my breakfast smoothie, and can just about cope. Going to take a long time to get through my supersize bag! Having it for breakfast keeps me full up to beyond lunch, something soya protein didn't do so well. I don't regret my purchase, but won't be rushing out to buy again.
It is so good tasting that it saves me a lot of time to just put 2 spoonfuls of it in my mouth with sips of water and chew it. It actually make me to look forward to the moment that I eat it daily, which has never happened with any of the brown rice and pea protein powder that I have tried. It certaintly works for feeling more energized! It can be used in recipes too.I used it with buckwheat flour(2:1 proportion of hemp protein being the less) and organic raisins to make crackers.
I use this as a meal replacement. I mix it into natural yoghurt with some stevia and a good few deops of vanilla extract. Yum. To me it tastes like ice cream with a slightly nutty flavour and does me more good on account of the vitamins it contains.

Hemp whey protein, I bought because your milk based products irritated my bowels and gave me the runs. Plus I am aware of the useful and naturally available benefits of the hemp plant for the human body. This stuff tastes like hemp and it doesn't really dissolve into the liquid. Its a bit like making a tea using leaves. They get wet and mix into the water, but they remain bits of tea. So this powder remains powder in the mixer and turns the water cloudy green and some settles at the bottom of the container. Its a unique and interesting, not unpleasant taste, of hemp(!) which is a grassy, not sweet, not bitter, vegetable taste. THe effect on the guts is completely benign, and yields a satisfying energy supply. One star off because it doesn't get you stoned. Gutted. Plus its a bit on the pricey side. I may try Pea Protein as an alternative.Goes Well With:Before an apple.

I like that this product is made from hemp. Great for people with lactose intollerence. I like the high vitamin profile. The only issue is the mixability and taste. It tastes like I scooped up muddy water from the ground and it does not mix well at all. I do however think it doesn't taste to bad if mixed with orange juice, so try it with that and get even more vitamins :)Goes Well With:Orange juice
Great product ... mix it with some impact whey isolate and instant oats , cocoa powder , coconut water , honey and kefir . tastes good . Tje kefir is hugely pro biotic and a complete protein source also .

The first week of Hemp protein can be a bit of a challenge in terms of texture, but after that, it's fine. I was looking for a natural, plant based, pesticide/chemical free alternative to Whey, and I'm really happy with the change. The added benefit of Hemp's vitamin/mineral profile, high fibre, and Omega 3 & 6 profile make this a killer addition to my diet. Goes Well With:Patience, Water (lots)

Taste awfull as expected. But I think it is a good product. Need to take for a few more weeks to see if there are any benefits. Recomend you only take half a measure at a time. You need to be pretty hardcore to down this stuff. Great alternative to dairy and soya based protien.Goes Well With:Apple juice

As far as proteins go, this seems to be a little easier to tolerate if you don't like the sickly sweet, all in one, whey based mixes like XS or Extreme. I thought I'd give it a try as I looking for something which lent itself more to a paleo option. TBH, I actually prefer this to the other stuff I was taking (XS & Extreme). They were very sweet and had to tone them down with a spoon of powdered coffee to stomach them. Ok, so it may be a tad lighter on the protein content so take three shakes a day to make up for it. Where the XS and Extreme would play havoc with my insides this is noticeably easier. I still get a bit of gas but that's more likely from the milk I mix it with than from the product. I prefer to use milk as it makes it taste like cold pea soup. To be honest I like the taste this way and I take 3 heaped scoops a day and mix each one with about 2/3 of a pint of milk. It goes down well. Water makes it too watery and as for fruit juice, that would be just plain wrong. Think savoury and you'll be ok. Mixibility is pretty good. A tad grainy but nothing more than usual. I get the odd clump of powder stuck to the inside of my shaker lid afterwards but I shake that off with a bit of water and down it too. Results - too soon to say as it's only been a month. Goes Well With:Milk

Limited to protein shakes I can use due to intolerances. I found this one grand. The taste wasn't great but it was definitely drinkable. Better than I was expecting, I found it tasted earthy or nutty. I haven't tried mixing it with anything other than water so may find something to help it.
I brought my protein hemp protein after it was recommended to me by friends and after reading the great reviews on the site. When it arrived I put it in my bag went off to train and then put it in my shaker added water mixed up on first appearances it looked disgusting but what you would expect hemp protein to look like and then started to drink this is where the issue starts as you're drinking it there isn't really a taste but you can just fill the powder running through your mouth which feels gritty and absolutely horrible once you've finished taking a mouthful on downing it, how do you take yours the taste kicks in which is really earthy a bit nutty which a lot of people had said you could get used to I've been trying this now for three weeks and I'm still not used to have to have a second drink next to me to down afterwards to get all the leftover powder out of my mouth and the taste out my mouth I've tried water milk egg whites and orange juice have even tried putting it in my morning breakfast shake with bananas apples blueberries and Oates the taste still gets through and is disgusting!! Mixability; despite what are the reviews say mixability is Poor Flavour; very nutty very earthy not for me not for everyone be warned
When I had my first shake I was doughtfull, it didn't taste great but it wasn't bad. But after a 1kg pack the taste has grown on me and I quite like it. To my suprise it's great with milk, I mix it with a bit of dextrose for post work-outs and that tastes great to. I still haven't tried it with juice yet. I just brought the vegan belnd which I will never do again, this product it far superea in taste and mixability. I havn't been working out long enough to know how it effects performence and growth. It mixes well and doesn't effect my stomach in any bad way, neither does it make me fart while squating. Can't wait to finish my vegan blend so I can get back onto this,
Being lactose intolent and vegaterian I've been a bit limited in my choices. I've tried brown rice protein (it's grainy and doesn't agree with me), I've tried pea protein (which is ok) and even mixed the two (it's supposed to give a better amino acid balance) but hemp protein was the only protein I've tried which is easily digested and has noticable results. Yes, as others have said, it has a strong nutty / earthy flavour but once you get over the unusual flavour it's the best out there for vegans.Goes Well With:I stick with water!
Nice natural product!
As i like to have diversity in my protein intake i discovered that this kind of raw proteins are a great way to do that by mixing them in half parts with other flavored proteins. I like to try things that aren't usual, i was sceptical with mixing it with whey but after i tasted it, this became my favorite blend, the shake gets lighter, and i find it to be more easily digested. In raw, this tastes like what it is but i find it to blend very well with any other flavour, so the taste shouldn't be a issue.Goes Well With:Other flavoured protein blends.
I call this product excellent -despite its downfall in mixability- because of its purity and rawness as a food. Having used whey protein for a couple of years when I was in my late teens I almost always found problems with it, whether from it being difficult to digest or the bloating that many people complain of. I could 'feel' that I'd had it, and that my stomach didn't like it, for pretty much the rest of the day. Having done a bit of reading it seems that the methods of extraction, the agents that it comes powdered with, and the nature of the protein as animal (and hence not optimised for human stomachs) all contribute to these complaints about whey. I have to commend myprotein on their range of plant-based products as well as the quality and affordability of this one in particular. As other reviewers say, this is raw hemp protein which means it will digest in your stomach just as though you had eaten the seeds. I've found the shakes so digestible that I can have them before/after meals and not feel bloated or over-full, nor does it feel heavy in the stomach during exercise. The product doesn't mix particularly well, but you can't expect much else since it's 100% hemp. Hemp doesn't naturally mix into a solution and it is heavier than milk and water so it tends to sink to the bottom of the shake. You can also feel the powder in your mouth as you drink it, but that isn't unusual with shakes in my experience. It isn't an offensive taste, but the shake benefits from adding your own flavouring. Goes Well With:1/3 water, 2/3 milk, chocolate milkshake powder.
I'm pretty new to the whole protein supplements thing, but as a vegetarian I decided to try this as it was recommended by a friend. First few goes I mixed it with just water and found it a bit, well, odd - kind of like drinking cold, thin pea soup! But mixed with skimmed milk it's much better - actually quite smooth and really quite tasty. And I have to say that it does seem to help refuelling after a session at the gym. I'm certainly coming back for more!Goes Well With:Milk!
Hemp Protein is a very good choice, it's vegan and healthy protein! Mixing it with water is okay but it tastes much better mixed with fruit juice. I'll definitively buy it again! Goes Well With:water, fruit juice
Hemp Protein is the only protein that is not UHT treated - which means it retains most of its minerals/vitamins and is fully assimilable. It is also cold processed (obtained by physical means) and without a use of solvents and therefore does not get your bowels bloated. The only thing is the taste but it could bypassed by mixing with 100% chocolate. You could mix it with banana as well but do not forget to add a spoonful or two of flax oil to slow down the carbs intake (high index). Goes Well With:100% chocolate
Researching nutrition, I have come to learn that Hemp protein is the most natural and purest protein out there. Before, I think it was raw eggs, but those days are long gone. Thank goodness, this Hemp Protein tastes like plants, and takes some getting used to. It can be mixed etc but the taste is quite strong and overpowering. I won't lie about that. However, you can get used to it, and it is fantastic for recovery! A few shakes of this a day, will soon become habit and really does speed up recovery after a workout, also I have noticed an increase in muscle gain compared to other protein powders. The main selling point for me was the purity of the Hemp, nothing is added, or taken away.Goes Well With:I mix it with milk or water, ideally with the Myprotein Shaker.
No stomach upset at all even if taking few servings per day. For all the fusspots out there, its on par with pea protein taste wise (not great) but in blender with berries and orange juice it is fine, actually adds a nice thick texture. Cant complain on this stuff, taste is irrelevant really unless you are a fusspot and more worried on taste than quality. Sticking to this gear from now on.Goes Well With:frozen berries and juice
I recently started running/jogging with a group of other middle aged women. The reasons for this is first to get fit and hopefully lose a little weight. I have been trying to improve the muscles in my body and Hemp protein was recommended to me. I have only just started using this product along with making other changes to my diet and running/jogging three times a week. Up to now I have no complaints and I am happy with what I received. My fitness has improved and I am slowly losing weight as well as toning my whole body. Give it ago and find out for yourselves. It's never to late.Goes Well With:Shakes and soups
At first, I didn't like the taste of Hemp Protein, finding it too overwhelming! But then I used 400ml of oat milk, a banana and a half scoop of hemp protein and it tastes delicious.Goes Well With:Oat milk and a banana.
I wasn't a fan of this Hemp Protein. It tastes horrible! If you are going to get it I would get a flavoured one!
I have an intolerance to whey to found hemp protein a good replacement, this protein tastes they best of any I've ever had. It mixes as well as hemp protein can just I make it as required or if taking it to training I just give it a good shake before I drink it. Value for money and quality myprotein is the best there is highly recommend it.
The taste of this Hemp Protein is great, it's kind of nutty, like a mild peanut butter. Better than Whey in my opinion.Goes Well With:Me
It taste better than it looksGoes Well With:Meal replacement shakes
Not a good taste by itself but it is really effective with recovery!Goes Well With:Tomato juice and tabasco sauce
This Hemp Protein works for me as I alternate between pea and hemp proteins and they go well with my paleo (dairy and gluten free) diet, but the taste is not too good.
Hemp Protein is lovely to drink as a smoothy, with a nice taste. It gives good results and is a very good vegetarian source.
Hemp Protein is an excellent product that's a much smoother and finer mixture than those available on the high street. Taste is an acquired one, although mixed 50/50 with impact whey protein and berries, this makes it much more palatable. It mixes easily and smoothly.Goes Well With:CLA
I love this Hemp Protein. As well as being a brilliant raw food (which combines beautifully with banana and cacao!), I love baking with it. I don't eat any grain and only have monosaccharides and find the natural albumin content of this means it makes wonderful breads and cakes without the need for loads of eggs.Goes Well With:everything!
I'm a big fan of Hemp Protein, for me it releases slower than whey protein and so that makes it a useful ingredient in my breakfast shake. Unlike with whey, I stay full for longer when I use hemp protein (without feeling bloated). The colour can be a bit strange, as anything you mix it with will result in a green slime. However, I find the taste to be pleasant, and it mixes quite well (with flax) - better than whey protein. Goes Well With:Fruit juice, ground flax.
I am not one to complain about taste in general, but I found this Hemp Protein to be pretty hard to swallow. It has a horrid flavour and texture. It tastes better with almond, hazelnut or rice milk than water. It needs something to sweeten it, and use water to water it down. I will continue to use it as an effective alternative to whey.
Hemp Protein is a very good, natural, plant-based protein powder. I've used it for some time now, sometimes on its own, but I also mix it with pea and brown rice protein. It has much more than just protein, as it's packed with a lot of good stuff. It's highly recommended.
What can I say, the Hemp Protein is a great product and tastes fine to me when just mixed with water, but make sure you use a bit more water about 300ml per scoop. I'm enjoying mixing it up and not just having whey all the time. The price does seem a bit high, but it's definitely worth trying out!
Hemp Protein is probably the most nutritional protein one can consume. The taste may not be as 'good' as some other proteins, but once you get used to it, it's perfectly palatable.
I've used Hemp Protein on and off but I am using it now all the time I got back into training. I have one after I've finished a workout. I mix mine with water plus add spirulina, barley grass, chlorella, plus other powders and drink it. Yes, the taste is different. I know from what I've read on different sites the benefits of taking this stuff is amazing, and it doesn't bloat like whey. I find whey to sweet, this is why I enjoy hemp, which is a bland non-sweet product.
it tastes very good mixed with water + tbsp of raw cacao powder and tsp of raw agave nectar.
"Wow, I'm surprised at how many reviews are giving this five stars. I haven't tried it for very long so I can't yet vouch for it's effectiveness just yet (am trying to find a protein shake without lactose), but I can say it's not easy to drink. It's a bit like trying to swallow a bag of crushed brazil nuts - hard going. Mixing only with water is just not good - it's more than a nutty taste, it's really bitter and strong and I defy anyone to have more than one scoopful per shake without gagging. However, I've found the most palatable way to drink it is to mix with Hazelnut milk and a banana (almond milk doesn't quite mask the taste enough for my liking), and would like to know if there are any better options. An acquired taste indeed, and one I've yet to acquire."
"well I was surprised with this protein, mixed with almond milk its not bad tasting, the average person will probably think its a rank taste, but out of all of the proteins this is now my choice, it has so many health benefits out of all the vegan proteins. throw in some banana oats and you have a delicious healthy post workout shake "
"I stopped buying whey protein as it gave me chronic insomnia, no matter what time of the day i took it. My girlfirend, who is vegan, put me onto this stuff. I was worried at first is wouldnt be as effective as whey but i have actually seen better results in the gym, which i put down to the good nights sleep i am now getting! Certainly as a protein source it is a good as whey, and MUCH better for you. I feel so much better having switched from whey to hemp, especially my insides! I can also take a massive scoop before bedtime and sleep like a baby. As far as the taste goes its not too bad. It mixes much better with water than whey and i guzzle down 3-4 glasses (1 scoop) a day no problem. My GF doesnt like the texture so she puts it in a yoghurt and loves the taste. I HIGHLY recommend this product. PS. PLEASE BRING DOWN THE PRICE!"
"According to many sources (see reference) hemp protein has many health benefits a superfood indeed. However, me personally it makes extremely sleepy probably due to cannabidiol known in particular for this effect. If taken daily, the sleepiness gets 24/7. Otherwise, given so much good stuff there, the taste is tolarable. Reference: thirdplanetfood.com/phyt21.htm"
"My first review ,i received my hemp protein today . even tough i read and researched about the advantage of hemp protein i wasn't looking forward to the taste. But to my surprise it taste nice i made a smoothie it had tropicana orange juice 150ml,1 banana,3 strawberries .i used to take Promax extreme and will be honest didn't see any change used to take it after and before training and it was vanilla flavour which didn't taste nice . the only thing missing here measuring spoon in the bag which would help to get the right quantity ."
"mixes ok, tastes exactly like i expected (hemp seeds) no problem for me to mix with water,i quite enjoy it.previously used pea protein for lactose, gluten free protein which is great but thought i,d try something which brings a bit more to the party ie enzymes, better amino +fatty acids profile, vitimins and nutrients.havent used it long enough to review results but im sure it gives me a better pump on drinking one b4 gym."
"ok this is my first review on this site, ive had many of the products, Hemp protein as you know has many benefits compared to whey. i bought a bag and tried it out. the taste was a slight shock to the system so dont buy a big bag first, but mixed with GUAVA JUICE OMG IT TASTE AMAZINNNNGGGGG! I WILL NOW BE ONLY USING HEMP PROTEIN. ITS A WHOLEFOOD ! Ive seen gains that seem to be stable and dont reduce in size like when you stop using other proteins. So Buy it and find a suitable juice to mix it with and you'll be fine. i even put a scoop of the powder in my sweet potato mash for lunch. :)"
"Personally I didn't like the taste much, its stronger than whey so would be relatively difficult to mask, I suggest you buy a small amount to try first. Also the protein per weight is low so its overall much more expensive than other sources I'm intolerant to some foods with no apparent pattern and this one was really bad, I can't even take it as it goes straight through me. Soya protein is much better but also requires hiding the awful taste, I'll try the Brown Rice Protein if it comes back into stock."
Very expensive for hemp as you can get it very cheap from other places but I bought with a few friends in bulk this stuff and it really works and it is a healthy alternative to whey and has a more nutritional complex whereas whey just tends to provide protein and very little else nutrition wise.
"I enjoy this hemp organic protein powder as it is healthy, organic, very effective too. I eat meat very rarely and non free range eggs in regular protein shakes I find not so friendly to chickens. I went for a vegan protein to use alongside a good whey protein immediately after the gym. I have felt my bodies strengh, endurance and tone improve with my lean mass increase from this product. Thankyou"
"I am allergic to loads of things including dairy, soya and wheat/corn/grains, so was so pleased when my lovely Brother told me about this, though it took me a while to get round to ordering as I read some of the reviews.... and was a bit put off, but I should have just gone with it! It is not nasty in any way at all - it has a slightly nutty flavour (well I as I remember nuts from my childhood anyway - as I'm allergic to them now too!!) I drink wheatgrass and Spirulina too, so the greeness is of no consequence, and it does mix provided you are drinking it straight away, or drinking it from a shaker so you can giive it a quick shake before you swig, as it does settle a bit. I imagine it will adapt well to flavourings, but personally I thought it tasted really nice. Can't comment on it's effectiveness as only just had my first one, but I enjoyed it and will be back for more!"
"This is anecdotal evidence I admit, but I have to say that there's something about this protein powder which works really, really well for me. I don't know what, but I've tried around half of the different types of protein supplement and this one really gives me some kind of boost in the way no other has. I sincerely hope they start offering a bulk discount however as it's very expensive. A recommendation: mix it with Pomegranite juice. It's an acquired taste, but it really grows on you after a couple of days. Although I genuinely think my body just recognizes it as great nutrition and has psychologicallyl made it taste great in response. This is *much* better than any whey protein for me."
"Dont buy this if you want a nice taste when drinking protein. This is natural ground down hemp seeds. The first time i tried it i heaved, honestly i have a high threshold for putting up with revolting tasting drinks as i have taken all sorts of brands of whey for over 5 years. I kept going and found my tolerance level improving and the taste becomes more bland. However the effectivness of the product is unbelievable. I feel better and have put on good clean lean muscle and lost body fat. This stuff really is the real deal, its a whole protein and superfood all in one packed with minerals EFA`s vitamins loads of fibre ( great Stools ) low PH level compared to high acidic whey powder. I have more sustained energy and better skin, I am not tell porkys when i say i chucked a 5kg tub of whey in the bin. Shame that MYPROTEIN dont add a natural flavouring to help take this diamond in the ruff."
"This tastes absolutely fine; quite nutty, which I had no problems with. I wouldn't want to drink it neat with just water, but the first time I used it was in a smoothie and didn't use quite enough liquid so it came out really really thick. The taste was fine and not at all overpowering (unless you're taking it neat I guess), it just adds a slightly grainy texture to whatever you're drinking and a very slight undertone of hazelnuts. Only thing it needs is a bulk discount!"
"I love this stuff, one scoop of hemp with one scoop of soy in apple juice, banana, nuts, fruit and honey whisked up and its one tasty beverage. On its own it has the taste of a swamp! I have worried about my protein intake (as a strict veggie) and for me Quorn and Tofu just don’t cut it as things to eat. Since using MP Hemp and Soy I have had more energy than I can remember having and feel more alive and vitalised. So all round top marks."
"hemp is so much better than whey. Hemp is raw and natural with complete essential amino acids and essential fatty acids. It also has an abundance of other nutrients, such as magnesium iron etc. also take this with raw organic coconut oil, as it helps your body absorb more essential fatty acids and amino acids."
"This is a great product, if you are looking for a natural protein source. You can mix as much as you want into a small glass of orange juice and it tastes fine at worst it is like ground hazelnuts just be prepared for it. Men not liking something because it isn't sweet/creamy enough is laughable, this doesn't taste bad, has a slight texture to it just like creatine powder but mix it and neck it. (tastes far better than what most of us neck on a Fri/Sat evening! ;o) Also really good for the road as you don't need milk or a blender. couple of spoons in a bottle of orange juice shake and down! Juice in first then the power whisk it quickly and it disappears in 5-10 seconds. You also don't have a whole pint to drink so good for when wanting small shots volume wise with the same amount of protein, you can drink it before going out without buddha-bloat!"
"Okay, it doesn't taste wonderful on its own, but if you mix it with something else, it's actually fine. Very effective, too - no bloating whatsoever, and seems to be helping with my nutrition goals and strength building."
"This protein goes down well & with no add bloated feeling like whey protein. I mixed mine like this 1 large MP scoop of Hemp protein, 3 small MP scoop of BCAA powder, 2 small MP Flavouring (Smooth Chocolate), added 150ml of water & shaked it in a protein shaker bottle. Tasted quite nice actually. Next time i will be adding 1 large MP scoop of oats. I instantly feel energised by working out for 2 hours in the gym doing interval training. Hemp Protein is great. If you dont like the taste add some MP Flavouring. Cheers"
"This stuff is great if you prefer savory tastes, and if whey makes you ill like it does me its even better.\nI thought i would leave a recipe that i use to take mine.\n3 dashes of Lee and Perins\n7 dashes of Tabasco sauce\n200ml of tomato juice\n30gs of hemp powder\n6g barley grass powder\nGood dash of virgin olive oil\nStir well with a long spoon\nground black Pepper to taste but i used quite a bit\n5 dashes of lemon juice\nAnd finaly another 150/200ml tomato juice#\nStir well again.\n\nAdd the ingredients in this order as i think the acid in lemon juice affects the Tabasco sauce.\n\nThis works great for me, im trying to lose weight so have this instead of lunch or after a good long bike ride, the pepper and pepper sauce increases metabolism, the barley juice should be added in lesser amounts to start off so you get used to it.\n\nHope you like my Smokin Virgin Mary.\n"
"As a slim guy I've taken a hell of a lot of different protein powders in my life. I used to like Whey - especially for the taste - but when I found out where most whey protein comes from and the way those cows are treated I had to find an alternative. Gandhi once said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." \n\nHemp protien sure doesn't taste great but a hard workout shouldn't feel like a walk in the park either! Not drinking it because it doesn't taste like a milkshake is a sad excuse. Man up people."
I have been working out for 12 years and just started my career in personal training and I have to say I love this stuff! It's truly a protein revaltion!\nSure the taste is not something to talk about but that's not what matters. It got everything you need packed in ONE. It's actually good for you and it makes me feel pretty good. The ingredients speak for it's self. I can feel and see the difference and on top of that it's organic!
"you guys are jokers... why buy this if you are expecting to experience the same tastes as you would form whey or other milky things.... corse it tastes diff ive jus got both pea protein n hemp pro n planing on mixing the two daily..\n\n ive jus tryed sepratly 15 grams each mixed in to water. it tastes unusual but fine, whith noneed to need to cover my nose it dnt even smell lool i didnt mind it but deceded to mix with a cordial highjuice blacurent flav. n found it tasted fine :)\n\n realy dont see why you guys hate it so much. ov corse its not going to taste like a strabury milk shake n thinks must b one of the main reasons you guys aint liking it lool. i like it realy n tbh if you find it grainiy i like that graininy feeling lool a bit like a rubicon guava :) umm i know i will enjoy experimenting and mixing this with all diffrent flavours . i think youalls problem is you are to used to the artificial tastes that they puting in to most ov the foods of to day. if thats what your after why not mix it with a bunch of e numbers ha ha..\n\n hope this review is helpfull. all the best and enjoy :)"
After reading some of the reviews on here about it tasting disgusting I was dreading trying it but its actually not too bad!\n\nI have it with fruit juice and blend the hell out of it. Doesnt look great and is a bit grainy but doesn't taste as foul as everyone makes out.\n\nNot sure how effective it is yet as I've only started using it - but so far so good.
"I don't have anything fancy, just a shaker from this site. I put a large scoop of this in with two small scoops of smooth chocolate, shake it hard three times and I have a walnut whip flavour protein shake. (One that is complete, and that also adsorbs into the body better.) It doesn't repeat on me all day like whey protein does (Yeah you like it going down, lets see how you like it coming back up.) It feels a little grainy going down but so what. If you drink creatine (CEE HCL) with berry blast, you will have no complaints about the taste of this."
"To answer some of the other posts, I for one eat a lot of unprocessed natural foods, so I'm not adverse to natural tasting products. But this powder mixed in water is awful, almost unpalatable. I could easily take it in a soup though. It lends itself to a more savoury taste.\n\nThe effect however is great, reminds me a lot of a super-foods sprouts powder I used to take, a very energising protein powder, probably due to all the extra nutritional support. \n\nIf your not a cry baby about taste I'd highly recommend it. I'm holding my nose and just gulping it down. Its got a kick as good as coffee."
"Hey Mr Clothier, seriously, I'll have your hemp! Ok, review wise it's gonna taste wierd to someone only accustomed to generic tastes, and obviously we all have preferences. But if one person says it tastes good and another says bad, how're you gonna know? My guess is most of the reviewers here with positive reviews are veggie based like me. I've been experimenting for decades with different foods, and I know that my tastebuds are not reliable as my stomach for telling me whats good for it. And my tastebuds get retrained very quickly. This tastes great in a fruit shake, just don't add too much, and the killer app for any of this stuff for me is Maple syrup. It even makes Spirulina taste good by the spoonful. This stuff is one of the the holy grails of vegetable proteins being one of the most nutritionally compatible substances on the planet for human assimilation. It used to be illegal NOT to grow it in the US. for everything from rope to animal feed to fertilizer to Veg oil. As for the price, Organic cold pressed and freeze dried, if it was olive oil it'd be twice the price. I give it 4 stars as I've only had 1Kg so far, and there's always room for improvement, or change. Anyway, cheers."
"Its nice mixed with passion fruit juice. Grape juice and apple juice are also quite good. I'd recommend it to anyone, the only drawback being the price!"
"This product is awsome, the only issue I have is that this hemp protein has 34.6% protein but I have seen hemp protein with 50% pure protein and only 20% Fibre. Im suprised they dont sell it here.."
I'm an avid fan of Hemp protein and have been using for the last couple of months now and would defaintly recommend it. Like the last review i try to aviod consuming to much milk and find the best way to improve the test when mixing Hemp protein with water is to add a scoop of Ultra Fine Scottish Oats. The only minor draw back i suppose is the price but the quality is excellent.
"It's ok. Problems are its extremily expensive. It's nasty in water, it really doesn't mix well, although I could get it down it would leave me feeling sick like I did with whey. BUT it all changes when you mix it with milk, it actually becomes really nice & easy to stomache. You can play about with it, I sometimes used to put milk, natural yogart and instant coffee. That can be really quite nice but you don't want to do it all the time that way. I don't like to drink milk daily as firstly it costs a bomb and b, milk isn't actually good for you, so I prefer having maybe twice a week. I tried all the other milk alternatives, soya, ricemilk, almond milk etc but they were all too sweet and pricey. I tried hemp protein in soup, works well with thick vegatble soups like pea soup. I also tried pressing it together with oil and a geling agent and then frying it, that worked quite well as well but it was a bit of a hassle. I'm going to try pea protein next, see how I fair with that as it is much much cheaper and higher protein content. MY guess is the flavour will be pritty rough so I'm thinking about knocking up a big batch of soups, freazing them and then using that as the mixer."
"I have to admit, I was a little nervous about ordering the Hemp protein, having read the mixed reviews. To be safe I just ordered the 1kg bag. I need not have worried, I have to say i actually really enjoy the taste, its a bit nutty if anything. Yes, the texture is a bit odd, slightly chalky, but not unpleasant. With a nutritional profile like this I will certainly be making this a regular in my supplement regime."
"This was the worst tasting protein i have ever purchased,it made me gag when it hit my throat and left my mouth very dry.\n\nIt tastes like the smell of grass and does not mix even in a blender so it went in the bin"
I find its fantastic & causes no bloating etc but its expensive - I would love some more but cant afford it at the moment :-( so if the last reviewer wants to get rid I would welcome it and pay postage etc\nMP is the cheapest I have found though.
I had high hopes for this after reading the reviews and thinking it would be a good alternative to milk based protein. i guess if i had no tastebuds it wouldn't be a problem but this stuff doesn't mix well and tastes too awful even in fruit juice or milk shakes. wish i hadn't taken a leap of faith and bought the bigger bag. anyone want some free hemp power?
"the chemistry of the hemp plant in perfect affinity with the human body...there is no other substance on earth quite like it. it's almost as though it was designed especially for us!\ni am a veggie and since taking this stuff i have noticed a huge difference in my feeling of well being, strengh and stamina.\ni have had periods without it and i definitely notice a difference.\n"
"I've been looking for this product for some time. Taste? Nutty I guess, haven't found it gritty at all, I like it! I add it to the liquidiser when making my morning smoothie for a treat I mix it with live yogurt, it's even more scrummie with added seeds and nuts, and I'm not even a veggie!"
"Its got quite a nutty flavour, which is quite strong but if you've had smoothies with added seeds, etc before its quite similar\n\nI just make a fruit smoothy and add a scoop to this - masks the flavour nearly completely! Alternatively stick it with juice (thicker stuff like smoothy is better). I prefer Blackberry innocent smoothy!"
"I used to take whey protein in large or small amounts and either way I'd feel sick during and after consuming, not because of the taste, because I actually liked the taste.\n\nI wanted something natural so I went for the hemp powder, the type of protein is different to whey so you don't need to use the same amount as whey, a lot of people are saying use twice as much to get the same amount of protein, this protein absorbs slower than whey, whey protein digests slow and abosrbs into the body fast and gets wasted, hemp powder aborbs into the system very easilly but the protein sticks around longer for when you need it so you don't need to take it as much or as often.\n\nThe taste isn't all that nice with water, but I mix it with milk and it just tastes like nuts to me, liquid nuts, you get a powdery feel in your mouth from it, but once yours done consuming it it's gone, if little bits are stuck around you can clear out your mouth with another drink and it's all gone, no sick feeling afterwards.\n\nNo huge amount of liquid needs to be consumed with hemp powder like recommended with whey proteins powders, so you don't need a bloat and as it is digested fast it won't slow your metabolism, make you bloated, or make you feel sick.\n\nYou can mix this with so many things including adding it into food like mashed potato, soups, shakes, anything, I mix fruit, milk, chocolate, vegetable and powder (not all at the same time) in a blender and get the goodness from it all.\n\nIt works as a anti-inflammatory and contains a lot of good nutrients, so will aid recovery, reduce swelling, and strengthen joints. I've had a temporary arthritus and this powder has helped to heal from it and help the swelling go down a lot.\n\nMy energy levels are a lot higher than they used to be, and my attitude is better, I am more positive and keep trying when things get tough in life.\n\nThis powder would be enough for me to give it 6 stars if it wasn't for the tiny amount of flavour and the graininess, but it is all worth it and I'll likely continue to take this for the rest of my life.\n\nI don't take that much, just healthy food, creatine, hemp powder, and sometimes multi-vitamins and omega 3-6-9 capsules. But to be honest, with this powder, there isn't much need for omega 3=6=9 capsules or mutlivitamins as long as you take hemp powder and eat healthilly, so overall I will probably save money, and health, compared to whey protein.\n\nAlso I'd just like to mention that when I took whey protein, my size increased a little, strength stayed the same for a long time, once I stopped taking whey my strength went right up and size stayed, since taking hemp powder size and strength have boosted and I can go a long time without working out before any strength is lost, as long as you keep creatine aswell."
"Have been suffering from lethargy and low immune system for months, been drinking this with orange juice for a few days and feel great :)\nThe taste is an acquired one and the grittiness to me is actually quite nice, if you don't mind getting used to it then this is lovely stuff! Hard to mix but tastes great in orange juice :)"
i do 4 days out of 7 as 'vegi' and 3 days as 'omni'. the hemp protein works really well on the vegi days. good in all sorts of ways.
I also did the York test and was found to be making Igg antibodies against dairy.<b><b>\n\nI know what the earlier poster means about the coarseness of this abrading the throat!<b><b>\n\nI'm adding 30g to veg and nuts in the blender and making a nice soup. The coarseness disappears and adds to the meal a slight chewable pleasant aspect.<b><b>\n\nWith so many health benefits listed in the blurb it looks like it's worth ingesting apart from the protein :)
"This is an add to my previous review.\n\nBeen drinking this for about 5 days now. The person who wrote about using rice milk was a good tip. It tastes very natural with rice milk. Although rice milk is more expensive than milk and that adds to the cost!! Not only that, you get a very healthy non-animal source of protein. You need to take double dosage compared to WPI because of the protein content being 16g per 30g. compared to 28g/30g of WPI. I would say this is a very healthy source of protein. Although very expensive, I wish they would place a bulk discount on this to encourage more purchasing. With whey you get all sorts of reactions if you're allergic to milk. This one, after you drink it you wonder if there's anything going on at all. Body feels at peace and very quiet. With WPI, I could almost feel myself expanding the very moment I begin sucking on it. I'm sure most who take predigested whey feel the same way. I haven't tried bulking up with this protein, but I'll try, i can imagine it being not very easy. We'll see what happens over the months. For now, for health reasons, i'm willing to fork out and put it to the test."
"Got this about a week ago and the first mix was awful as I had just mixed it straight with water, I then realized a bit of imagination was required, so tried some frozen berries( get at your local supermarket) a banana, fruit juice and a bit of honey and its fantastic. Has quite a nuttyish taste which i like. Have been mixing it with the finely ground oats carbohydrate too and its pretty good. Maybe not for someone who wants a shake in 10 seconds, but fantastic otherwise. Would really recommend it!"
"I bought 1kg just for 'try out', I did York Test and realised i was allergic to milk, soya, and eggs. So there went my workout routine out the window. I figured either rice protein or hemp from now. Rice was out of stock so I tried this. \n\nIts not too bad really. One thing though, this thing does not mix. It merely floats inside and around liquid. It does not dissolve into liquid like whey does. So when you drink it , it feels like you're drinking 'grinded hemp seeds' with water. There is always usually about 10% of it left as sediment at the bottom of the cup. And when you're done with it, you can continue to bite and chew the little bits of seeds that's left in your mouth. mmm.. :)\n\nCan you make cookies with it? Sure. Is it the ideal protein? Probably not. Not anywhere as close to WPI. \nBut if you have allergy problems like me, you could get used to it, might work. Has half the biological value compared to WPI. So I probably have to drink twice as much to get the same results. And i'm sure you noticed...) it also costs twice as much too! So you do the math :)\n"
"After experimenting I've found that sweetened and flavoured with chocolate it has a taste akin to peanuts.\nAnd whereas the texture is indeed gritty/floury it's much easier on the palate than pea, *anything* is better than rice protein and yes, soya is the tastiest but it's still up in the air as to it's detrimental effects on your health. \nIt's expensive but worth it IMO - plus myprotein have it way, way cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.\n"
"I cant understand some of the poor reviews for this product though I suppose were all different. I have used this powder with rice milk and a banana put through the blender and it tastes great! Banana is perfect for giving it a sweet taste and thickening it up which helps it go down. I much prefer this to the soya or pea protein powders I have tried in the past. Were always hearing about how delicious things are and they rarely live up their descriptions. Hemp is certainly one of those products, but I find this one great, really very tasty if prepared as above and I found that I felt much better when training and using hemp protein. Cant understand the gritty description but as I said, were all different and entitled to our opinions. I felt I had to write this as I thought some of the other reviews were a bit too harsh. I would definitely recommend this product, just buy a small quantity at first to make sure your ok with it."
"I TRIED THIS HEMP\r\n\r\nI WOULD NOT ADVISE THIS FOR SHAKES, ITS ONLY IDEAL FOR BAKING CAKES OR COOKIES OR MEDICINAL USE\r\n\r\nVERY STRONG TASTE AND VERY GRITTY\r\n\r\nIF GOING TO USE AS SHAKE TRY USING ONLY SMALL AMOUNT TO GET ITS NUTRIENTS/PROTIEN HEALTH BENEFITS\r\n\r\nIT WILL INFLAME YOUR THROUGHT GIVING YOU SORE THROUGHT AND SO NEEDS TO BE MIXED WITH EITHER A TABLE SPOON OF HONEY OR MOLASSES IF MAKING SHAKES\r\n\r\nI JUST WISH MYPROTIEN WOULD GET SOME BUFFALO MILK POWDER IN STOCK AS BUFFALO MILK IS VERY EASILY DIGESTED WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS OF COWS MILK. BUFFALO MILK IS THE HEALTHIEST OF ALL MILK. I THINK TESCOS ARE SELLING BUFFALOS MILK BUT ONLY IN LIQUID. I HOPE MYPROTIEN SOURCES BUFALO MILK POWDERT BY ASKING TESCOS WHERE TO GET BUFFALO MILK FROM\r\n\r\n"
"I was told by a trainer at the gym to get Hemp protein because its biologically 'alive' as opposed to Whey protein which is highly processed and 'dead' and so doesn't digest in the way it should. Whether that's true or not, I am lactose intolerant so need dairy free protein, plus have slight IBS making whey protein not the best option. I thought I would give it a go, and I would say that despite the 'gritty' texture, it tasted fine with the chocolate flavour and sweetner. It also totally agreed with my stomach and I had no ill effects. It loses a star because of the grittiness and the expense, but otherwise I'm very pleased!"
"Doesn't mix well in shakes (as others have said) - however, makes absolutely stunning brownies/cookies etc. You can pile it in and it actually adds to the taste (kinda nutty). High protein veggy/vegan bars have never tasted so good! Would buy it by the truck load if it wasn't for the high £££ :("
"Nutritionally, hemp seed is more like a (v. healthy) mrp, with moderate amounts of low gi carbs and efa's as well. For me, this was good, because in my custom formula it meant i could knock out other ingredients, like some of the oats and flax i normally have, making the overall formula cheaper. Taste is ok, but texture is pretty gritty, and you have to keep shaking the formula up once fluid is added, otherwise it seperates pretty quick."
"I've been looking for an Organic Hemp Protein for ages, so was thrilled to find someone stocking it. I ordered a custom 2Kg tub of 35% Maltodextrin, 25% Dextrose, 35% Hemp the same formula as I normally get but with Hemp instead of Soy Protein Isolate.\r\n\r\nI should really have NOT ordered 2Kgs of this without trying a smaller amount first. The Hemp doesn't really disolve and results in a grotty shake that seperates really quickly. It also doesn't go thick like the Soy protein and the taste is very strong, the banana flavouring didn't cover it at all.\r\n\r\nI'll definataly get it again, but just not in such a high percentage. Just be aware that it doesn't really disolve and has a strong taste..."
