Overview
Beta Alanine is a non-essential amino acid that combines with L-Histidine to help form Carnosine. that combines with L-Histidine to help form Carnosine. Beta Alanine elevates Carnosine concentration in muscles and is useful for anyone participating in sports which require explosive actions, for example sprinting, weight training or boxing and those involved in endurance exercise who wish to delay the onset of fatigue.
Benefits
Using Beta Alanine will help increase the production of Carnosine. Increasing the concentration of Carnosine in muscles is vital to athletes as Carnosine can increase the ability of your muscles to work harder and perform for longer. It may also prevent lactic acid build up during intense exercise, thus reducing fatigue.
Side Effects
Beta alanine can cause a tingling and flushing effect on the skin. This is a perfectly normal reaction by the body and not harmful.

Magic
Gym Boy - (20 / May / 2013)
I first discovered Beta Alanine late last year. The results are quite fantastic. Beta Alanine in itself is actually not magical, but what is magical, is what it enables your body to do. Carnosine is actually the magic here, and Beta alanine enables the body to produce more of it. Strangely, if the body is supplemented with Carnosine directly, nothing happens. The body only has a limited amount of Beta Alanine and hence a limited amount of Carnosine. So some clever scientist realised the key to producing more Carnosine is to increase the amount of Beta Alanine in the body and the result is amazing. 5g per day is the suggested dose, and the best thing to do in the first few weeks is take half a dose in the morning and the other half just before you leave for the gym. If you take more then 3g you will get the tingles within 10 minutes, but they pass after about 15 minutes. However, after about 3 weeks you don't really get the tingles anymore - I now take 5 to 6g in one hit and no longer get the tingles. The product looks a bit like sugar, and when mixed with a small amount of water, it eventually dissolves until the water is clear. I usually add some Creatine Mono to it once the Beta is dissolved, and then neck it in one. I then drink another full glass of water (Creatine advice is 100ml water for every 1g creatine taken). I also take water to the gym. Take this combo 25 minutes before you get to the gym, and Calcium Caseinate 5 minutes after you take the Beta and Creatine, and your gym session will explode. The first 2 weeks and nothing will happen, but during week 3 you feel like a monster; amazing pump, more reps, big increase in endurance, fat loss, and even on non-training days your body will feel really tight. Remember, for best results a good quality diet is essential, you are what you eat.Goes Well With:Creatine Mono (Creapure). Calcium Caseinate.

I've been using Beta Alanine for only two weeks now! And since I have been using it, my bench press increased significantly, my squats have gone up, as have my deadlifts. I love it! People report that they experience tingles. I for one don't get the tingles, but I guess I'm just lucky. But I would certainly recommend beta alanine to anyone wanting to put on some strength and size! If drinking with water, I would recommend you mix it well and drink it fast, as it doesn't taste the best. But you shouldn't be worried about the taste considering how amazing Beta Alanine is!Goes Well With:Caffeine, Creatine Monohydrate, Impact Whey Protein
Beta Alanine
Lucy - (07 / May / 2013)
I really rate this Beta Alanine, although be warned if you take a bit too much first time round - it makes you very tingly and spaced out and sickly so I had to find a quiet room in the office and lie down for a half hour. I guess-timated the first time! Don't do that and you will be fine. Now I now know the correct measurements it's great. I have been taking it for a week now and I'm starting to feel effects whilst working out. I'm ready to crank it up a notch.
beta alanine
drobec - (03 / May / 2013)
I've been using this Beta Alanine now for several weeks and I've really noticed the difference. I am doing both judo and fitness, and the thing I noticed on my judo training is that even after a few sparings, I still had the strength as if it was my first. I recommend to combine beta alanine with creatine monohydrate. I've done some research myself and many trainers/bodybuilders use this combination for an extra boost in strength before their workout and for the extra boost I take one caffeine tablet (200mg).Goes Well With:Creatine monohydrate, BCAA, Caffeine
Rod - (09 / Apr / 2013)
Product mixes well and doesn't really taste of anything. I've never experienced the 'tingling effect' others have commented on after taking it though. I found it to have immediate effect in the gym during the first week (loading phase), but have found it to wear of a bit during the 2nd week.
Yes Beta Alanine Works
Paul Busher - (22 / Mar / 2013)
I absolutely love Beta Alanine. When you first take it the tingly feeling might be a bit weird but you get used to it and it proves the stuff is working. As someone who is building up again it does give you that oomph that you need to get through the workout (and i love the look of the veins popping out!). Mixability and taste don't bother me it's the results that count.Goes Well With:Creatine
Amazing
Craig - (20 / Mar / 2013)
Beta Alanine is simply amazing, just 1 teaspoon in a shake and I'm off to the gym. It kicks in and takes around 20 minutes, even when training after a 12 hour night shift. I've never trained as well as I have on this product.Goes Well With:Any protein, caffeine.
pre workout
kai kai - (18 / Mar / 2013)
I used this product before from a different provider and loved it, the only slight downside is the taste and the slightly itchy, burning sensation that you sometimes feel. I put that down to me not training hard enough, just take it with a juice or sugar free concentrate if you can't handle itGoes Well With:water any drink
PTDave - (18 / Mar / 2013)
I most definitely feel that Beta Alanine is as a pre-workout supplement. Mix it with about 200ml of water and simply down it, and after about 15 to 20 minutes you will feel it working. I get a slight tingling sensation, and is most notable when performing sets. I can feel it working and I definitely have more focus. I mix 6g of this with 3g of L-Carnitine in 200ml of water, and take 20 minutes before a workout.
Trevor - (12 / Mar / 2013)
So far it's working but only training on it at the moment!
extra edge
Robocop - (11 / Mar / 2013)
Its a nutrient that is needed by your fast-twitch fibres, helps muscles to contract more powerfully and for longer, also helps steady your muscle PH, again so you can work for longer without tiring. Pretty good product all round.
Baron - (11 / Mar / 2013)
I found the tingles were too much, to the extent that I couldn't go to the gym. I have had tingles before from other products but for some reason my body just didn't react well to this one. I'm not saying it's a bad product, I would just recommend anyone to start off buying the smallest pouch or a taster if possible before spending a fair amount of money and having a bad experience with the product.
Does the job
Liam - (11 / Mar / 2013)
can definately say it works i usually mix it with my normal pre-workout supplement and i almost instantly start to feel tingles after i take it however it doesent taste good and a couple of times i have felt nauseous after drinking it especially when using in larger quantities ,would advise anyone buying it to only use a small amount

does exactly what it says on the tin
robbiec - (13 / Feb / 2013)
My hands and face were tingling on my drive to gym after taking this Beta Alanine, but it's well worth it for the workout! I'm going to try the recommended dose, however the tingling was pretty intense.
sam truder - (09 / Jul / 2012)
Can't take this 4 times a day as suggested. Get the tingles then feel nautious and a sweat on so mainly take a load before training. Definetely feel more alert and focused. Reccomend if you can put up with the after effects.
Thomas Brown - (21 / May / 2012)
I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of this product but there is a lot of good research suggesting that beta alanine could be really useful for endurance and gains. Unfortunately when I tried this product after about 5 minuets after the initial tingles(which were interesting) I developed a generalised itching over my body and felt very nauseous. I cannot blame myprotein or the product for this as I think it was just my personal reaction but I would advise anybody who wants to try this product to do it at a time where they don't need to do anything for a few hours just incase. The taste is very acidic and sweet but just pop it on your tongue and wash it down. Definitely worth a shot but unfortunately it wasn't for me
Chris Ellerker - (18 / May / 2012)
A great product. Buy a pre-workout today and chances are that it's going to contain Beta Alanine. It's one of those AAs which is tried and tested and is great if you're after that extra little edge in the gym. Myprotein's BA is high quality - the prescribed amount will give me the tingles in about 5 minutes and then I'm ready to lift. You can even make your own pre-workout with it (as I now do). Top stuff.
sheraz hussain - (22 / Apr / 2012)
"Gives you a good tingle after 20 minutes and a little extra edge in the gym, nothing dramatic though."
Richard Lewis` - (11 / Sep / 2011)
"Super cheap product for the benefits. A note - beta alanine does not have an instant effect, just like creatine you have to become saturated with it before you can feel the full benefits in the gym. take 3-6g pre-workout or anytime during the day it doesn't really matter. The only reason to take it Pre-workout is because of the tingles it gives you which for me anyway gives me a feeling like i've just taken a load of caffeine. The research done on beta alanine is also quite compelling and for the price you would be a fool not to take it: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21659893"
tony hibberd - (01 / Feb / 2011)
I am sure this product would work if i gave it long enough. Tried it for two weeks but the pins & needles were to for me to keep interested. Do read carefully the instructions as on my first does I took 5gm and my word it was hot!!!!
Gabriel Galeano - (20 / Dec / 2010)
"This is a very useful product. It can help to prevent fatigue during strength training, making it easier for me to do technical lifts like power cleans, and snatches without early fatigue. The taste and texture are sugar-like. I have not mixed it with anything, as I just place it in my mouth and wash it down with water or tea. It works exceedingly well with BCAA's and creatine monohydrate. Highly recommended."
Natural Boost - (05 / May / 2010)
"This suppliment is a must for a boost of enegy in the gym, after a four week course, I feel like im purshing twice the weight on my week off it. When on it i feel fresh, motivated, and have good pumps in my work-out. If you take this suppliment for longer than 4 weeks the effects wear off and so it needs to be phased. It does leave a tingle feeling all over prior to it affecting you."
updated review - (16 / Apr / 2010)
I know this works 'cos when I'm not using it I can see/feel the difference during workouts. Something I hadnt noticed before is that it also seems to help keep fat off somewhat which is a bonus.
Tingles - (14 / Apr / 2010)
"I just wanted to comment on the tingles really. I've just bought a big pack of supps, tyrosine, caffeine, creapump, beta alanine, hmb and unflavoured whey. Took HMB (which i've used elsewhere and was awesome) and beta alanine at the same time. Forgot completely about the tingles, dug into my tuna omelette after and there we have it. Personally I like the effect, makes me raring to go"
Always Delivers!! - (24 / Mar / 2010)
"I love beta-alanine, its one of those supps that within 10 minutes you can tell whether you have the real deal or not. The tingles for me are key to knowing the genuineness of it, and myproteins honesty, which is, i might add, impecable.\n\nMuch more driven workout, more motivated, stronger and push harder. Top stuff"
Quality - (14 / Mar / 2010)
"The Boost From Beta Alanine Is immense!! Would Deffinately recomend to anyone looking to push their workouts, the tingling is strange at 1st but after week or so its nothing, used bsn's no x-plode before, complete waste of money, i wont train without beta alanine again."
Awesome - (12 / Mar / 2010)
ok it does give weird pins and needles (which passes in around 15mins) - didn't get any headaches. But honestly my strength kept going up for the 4 weeks i was on it. No loading required it was instant extra strength. RECOMMEND!!!!! going on for 6 weeks next!
Stabbing pains! - (18 / Feb / 2010)
The stabbing pain of pins and needles on my face was too much to bear so I wouldnt reommend this product! I also got a pounding headache. Disappointed as its hyped and getting put into a lot of pre workout formulas now
Ronseal - (10 / Dec / 2009)
Does what it says on the tin - better mixed with other stuff
"Headache, nausea" - (28 / Oct / 2009)
"They say this is the new creatine. Maybe, but I took some and had an headache and wanted to puke for a while. Missed my workout."
like it - (24 / Jul / 2009)
I use this for a month on - take week-10 days off. got same texture as sugar. the "tingle" wears off the more you take it and for those that try it first time it wears off in 10 minutes or so.
awesome stuff!! - (24 / Jul / 2009)
"have loaded up on this for 2 weeks.. went on the track for the first time in 2 weeks it work brilliantly, not one bit of lactic acid and breezed the sprint session worked a bit to good to be honest.. will be using it again... \n\nonly one question.. does anyone know the schedule on beta alanine?? how many weeks use and how much off??\n\ncheers guys.."
"Cheap, effective energy booster" - (20 / Apr / 2009)
"I've been using BA for about two months now and am ordering more. I've found it to be a very effective energy booster when adding 2g (which includes AAKG and creatine). Best of all, it's very cheap compared to other supps and doesn't taste too bad either. You get used to the pins & needles too."
Doesn't actually help - (01 / Apr / 2009)
"Sure if I take more than 1/2 tsp I get pins and needles in my face. I don't see this as a good thing and it's certainly no indicator of any other, more positive, effects. Doesn't boost energy. Doesn't increase the weight lifted. Doesn't do anything useful. Creatine does work to an extent and is much cheaper."
Great product - (25 / Mar / 2009)
"What a product this is, Works great when taken with creatine. Have a lot of energy in the gym, getting good pumps and the fats coming off while building size. Highly recommended."
Top Class - (05 / Mar / 2009)
"Does what it says on the tin, very good product, easily taken pre-workout and gives you a great feel of energy and pump throughout the whole session."
Intense - (22 / Feb / 2009)
"Only been taking this for a few days now. From what i can tell its made my workouts so much more focused im pumping many more reps than i used to be able. Must say 1st time i took this supplement the tingly sensation i got was weird, almost uncomfortable mainly in my legs but after 5-10 mins it went away. Tingly hasnt been as intense rest of the time"
god damn!! - (24 / Dec / 2008)
does exactly what it is meant to do. didn't even get that tingly feeling everone keeps going on about! top class product
does this make anyone stink? - (15 / Nov / 2008)
good product but seems to make me smell of rotten fish when im training. hands and feet tingle like crazy too but was expecting that. nice pump with CEE and aakg
I think I'm in love! - (23 / Oct / 2008)
"This does exactly what the sales pitch says.\n\nThe effect has been very profound. I normaly get tired after 30 minutes or so when lifting weights, today I wanted to just lift more & more.\n\nAt the reccomended dosage, the so called 'tingles' were minor for me, just around my cheeks (facial ones!) and my forearms, only lasts for a few minutes.\n\n\nImpressive stuff, this is going at the top of my 'what supps can I afford next week' list :)\n\nHave a good one!\nTom\n\n"
Good - (20 / Oct / 2008)
Combined with creatine ethyl ester this gives you some great pumps and increases your strength during workout.
it works! - (14 / Oct / 2008)
ok i'm not a body builder but i do exercise everyday. this stuff has definitely made exercising feel easier and more enjoyable...i can go further and seem to recover quicker. i mix mine with water and it's fine...and yes...there is one almighty tingle around 10 mins after taking it.
With creatine - (25 / Sep / 2008)
"Great product, but really needs to be in a tablet/capsule. Since the effects of creatine are double with beta-alanine, you should take it with some CEE.\n\nMight be an idea for the myprotein guys to mix a sports supplement of beta alanine with CEE in one easy tab. Not that I am hinting towards anything!"
get it now - (08 / Aug / 2008)
"im a personel trainer in ireland and have tried many products, most with poop results.\nBeta alanine is the first product that really works for me.\nfrom my training log\n- weights went up by about 30%\n-endurance went thru the roof( an hour on 1 body part would be no problem)\n-effects were noticable straight after the first dose\n\nover a period of 6months my gains will be huge"
Good stuff tho beware of the slight side effect - (22 / Aug / 2007)
"Really good stuff to give to you that extra buzz and focus during a work out (i combine with taurine aswell tho) but i have noticed that not a lot people have eemphasised the slight side effect of the itching Beta Alanine can cause. I notice about 5-10 mins after taking it your whole body starts to go incredibely itchy and feels sort of like 'pins and needles' for about 15 mins, tho I can imagine this only happens to some people. Despite that, Really great stuff would definately recommend to a person on a budget looking for a focus enhancer"
Tingly - (26 / Jan / 2007)
"I take about 1.5-2g in fruit cordial 40 mins before my workout, along with my cee. after about 20 mins, it gives you a crazy tingling sensation from inside. I feel it helps a bit with endurance during workouts, e.g an extra rep or so on chins/bench.\r\n\r\nit's tastless, but comes in 'little crystals' and is difficult to dissolve. i have to add it to warm fruit cordial"
Good Value - (28 / Nov / 2006)
"I've been using beta Alanine for the past three weeks and have noticed that it allows me to train with increased intensity.\r\n\r\nFor the ultimate pre workout combination I combined with 2 grams of CEE and 3 Grams of AAKG.\r\n\r\nBuy it, you wont regret it."
Best Supplement Ever - (11 / Nov / 2006)
"Just wanted to let you all know how I've been getting on with beta - alanine.\r\nI've been taking 1.5 grams 4 times per day for the last 6 weeks.\r\nI have noticed a literally night and day difference in my training.\r\nI do high level judo 3 times per week for 1.5 hours at a time.\r\nI also do Olympic Weightlifting 3 times per week for stremgth and conditioning for judo.\r\nA typical weightlifting session for me would be\r\nSnatch 5 sets of 3\r\nClean & jerk 5 sets of 2\r\nFront Squats 3 sets of 3\r\nWeighted Pull ups 3 sets of 6.\r\n\r\nI have noticed now that I feel almost no lactic acid build up or burning at all in my training, even though I keep the rest periods short 1 min or less. As a result I no longer ever cut my sessions short due to fatigue, my work capacity is much higher.\r\nIn my judo training also I have noticed the same, we do 10 * 5 minute sparring rounds with 1 minute break often, Now I barely notice any lactic acid build up at all during training. Any minor discomfort I do feel is gone within the minute.\r\nThis is the first supplement I have ever taken where I have actually noticed a tangible difference after taking it. Try it and I promise you will notice a difference."
