Overview

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is naturally found in a variety of fruit and vegetables. It is widely used as a sugar free sweetener and is regarded as a more natural and healthy alternative to sugar and other synthetic sweeteners.

Xylitol is 100% natural and is the ideal substitute for normal table sugar which is both unhealthy and often toxic. As a sweetening agent, the caloric impact of Xylitol is typically about 40% lower than other carbohydrates and sugars, making it a healthy addition to any diet.

A recent study showed that while glucose (a type of sugar) caused an increase in blood sugar levels, Xylitol did not produce such a pronounced effect. As blood sugar levels are not affected so dramatically by the ingestion of Xylitol, it also works as a great tool to reduce body fat. Xylitol has also been shown to reduce appetite as it can provide a prolonged feeling of satiety.

As an alternative to sugar, Xylitol has been shown to help reduce tooth decay and in some cases reverse the effects of existing dental issues. This is due to the fact that Xylitol is not fermented by oral bacteria and it can actually inhibit bacterial growth resulting in less dental issues.

    And polyols tend to give you the polytrots if consumed in excess. 'tol' is an acronym for 'Time On Loo'! (i.e. that's where you'll be spending most of your time if you consume too much!) I have IBS, and it does tend to affect me, which is why I tend to only use Sucralose (Splenda) which is what MP uses to sweeten its flavoured protein powders (probably for that very reason as we all probably consume more protein shakes than anything else - and it'd be pointless attempting to train!)

    Bit clumpier than the more expensive Xylitol products on the market (which are VERY expensive) and not very sweet. Very few alternatives though and I'm intrigued by its potential dental properties....

    I only general use sugar for having a brew. This stuff tastes exactly the same as Surose. Unfortunately it does tend to clump alot. But thats about the worst of it. Did a blind taste test with a few people and nobody has noticed the diffrence. Good stuff.
