Overview

Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid and is found in high concentrations in the white blood cells, skeletal muscles, central nervous system as well as the heart muscles.

Taurine can have very positive effects on your workouts and body composition. With similar properties to Creatine, Taurine can draw water into your cells and act as a cell volumiser. This can help draw additional nutrients into the muscle which can aid recovery and growth. Taurine has also been shown to increase glucose into cells. Taurine is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter, and plays a major role in stabilizing the heartbeat and electrical activity of the nerves which can result in a better night's sleep and improved focus.

Taurine is also recognized as a great supplement to help reduce cramps. By regulating levels of calcium, one of the major minerals associated with cramp, Taurine can help reduce the severity of the pain.

Key Benefits

  • May help muscles appear larger
  • Can improve force production
  • Aids protein synthesis

A very fast delivery on my protein's part :) and the supplement mixed very well and could be shot with a small amount of water, although a while afterwards i did feel quite tired which might be just a starting side effect which i will find out soon I suppose, after a few months of taking this product i will write an other review to let you know how it is holding up, and the results it has shown.

Myprotiens small plastic scoop does NOT weigh 380mg (0.38g). of taurine. I got a 250g bag of taurine the other week and wondered why following MP's dosage guidelines of 2.5 scoops for 1g while aiming for 3g a day I had nearly finished the bag in over a week when I decided to weigh a small MP on my digital scale and found one small MP scoop actually weighs just over 3g of taurine.
  • Goes well with which Myprotein products:
    creatine + bcaa + eaa

After about a week of taking the recommended dose, i didnt feel any different, bar a slight increase in mood. So i decided to up it to about 5 or 6g pre workout, just in a glass of water. The results were great! Its so cheap and so effective. I got 250g of this stuff and its lasting ages. As for the workout, well apart from the fact that iv started getting insanely sweaty, it really works. I get so annoyed with everything and i just hammer out more and more reps. I ususally listen to load music so i didnt notice at first, but i growl so load now xD absolutley great pre workout product if you dont mind getting strange looks from the sea of gym goers around you!!

Not bad stuff taken before bed, but be warned people you can wake up to a mouth full of ulcers and swallen gums in the morning which is very hard to eat with and quite painful, continuation use every night will rip all your gums and it can take a good week to recover from it, even with constantly using prescribed mouthwash it takes a while to properly heel up, im gonna try pre-workout see how that works ill fill you in when i do! happy trainning people :)

good stuff, cheap and effective. worked well for me
  • Goes well with which Myprotein products:
creatine monohydrate and dextrose (and maybe a caffeine tablet too for good measure) pre-exercise.

This was recommended to me by a friend who is a strength conditioning coach and after taking 3-6g before training i did notice a difference in muscular pump but after continued use i started to get nose bleeds on a daily basis. Only after cutting this out, they stopped. Maybe it was the dose but I havnt used since. Its easy to take and doesn't taste of much; just shot it in some water and down it.

Tried it for the first time and it is amazing! Works like a dream, used a teaspoonful half hour before exercise and it is really effective. Thanks MyProtein for this wonderful product. Definetely worth buying.

I've been using this for the past 2 nights, teaspoon size before bed in a milk protein shake, n the previous night with some fruit juice... Found it quite difficult to get to sleep, not sure if my body needs to get used to it? Or whether the dosage is too small? Good points is it mixes well, and is tasteless...

Only use this before bed as i don't take any supps pre-workout. Can't comment on the drawing water effect as I'm on creatine which does that anyway! However, the sleep i've been getting is quality, dreamless sleep with no interruptions and I often wake up feeling refreshed, even if I haven't had a lot of sleep! All in all a great product for the price and i highly recommend it - Although I do kind of miss having dreams :P

I take so much supps pre workout I cant comment on that aspect of it. BUT.. the sleep I am getting is amazing and having the most crazy vivid dreams. I love it!

all the energy of caffeine without the nervous side effects. I like this stuff pre work out. I also use it while working, as I have a very physical job and mid afternoon can run low on energy, so to increase productivity I used to have a red bull ( contains taurine amongst caffeine ) But now I can have this. Im also noticing I appear bigger and stronger and pumped along with creatine.

I'd never thought of this as an essential before - however it improves focus on workouts and when i take with Zinc & Magnesium its like being given a general aneasthetic ( brilliant 'cos i have a 6 month old baby in the house!)

I can quite honestly say that this stuff has helped me lift a little bit more during sessions - used for a while and seen good gains in strength... Past couple of weeks ran out and noticed I've dropped how much I was lifting... Deffo buy some more on payday!!!!

I've been taking this for 2 weeks non stop.\n\nthis honestly works! pumps tissue with water, increased focus and energy.\n\nonly 2 down sides but they aren't that major.\n\n1# the crystals can take a while to dissolve.\n\n2# It doesn't have a warning for if you take to much, "myprotein..co.uk" I can give you a warning to put on there, don't take over the recommended dose as it pushes water into your body and then draws it out of you in the form of soft stool. rofl no joke.

  • Pointless (28/12/2008)
  • Review:
To be honest, I found taurine to be quite useless. When I saw people saying it helped them lift more at the gym or help them sleep, I thought I'd give it a go. I haven't felt any of these effects. At the gym, I still lift as usual and at night I still sleep like a baby with or without it. \n\nI wouldn't recommend it and I won't be buying it the next time around however, if you'd like to give it a go then go for it.

I'm at the gym 6.30am, means getting up at 5.30am - even on rest days, I wake up 5am-ish. Tried 3g taurine for the first time last night.\nAmazingly, I slept right through until 8.40am. Lucky it was a rest day from the gym!\nWouldn't recommend trying it at night if you've gotta be up early.

I have only given 4 stars as I have been using this with other products so can't tell exactly how well this works.\n\nHowever my pre-workout blend of 4g taurine, 200mg caffeine and 1g alcar, gets me massively up for training, I call it red mist!

  • Review:
I am not a body builder etc., just someone with ME/CFS and fibromyalgia trying to get my body to work better, and find some more energy lol. My morning dose not only seems to help strength and stamina, but my longstanding chronic daily migraines have become a thing of the past. I have tried everything there is before I discovered taurine ?

  • Review:
Just echoing what others have said. This stuff is great, I take it as part of my pre workout bundle but I don't notice the results as much as when I take it before bed. 3g half an hour before bed clears my mind so that I can get off to sleep quicker and I'm also less likely to wake up during the night.
  • Excellant (09/07/2008)

I have used this for about a month now pre-work out with creatine 1 hour before to make sure it is in the blood stream and on demand and it makes a huge differance to performance,I also use it before bed every night without fail as I sleep like a baby,It certainly gives you a relaxed feeling,3g pre and pre bed seems to do the trick at the moment will phase it with the CM after 8 weeks or so..Highly recommended and wont go with out this supp
  • Focus for hard gains (06/07/2008)
  • Review:
I find this stuff works best with 5g of Citrulline Malate - Malate for the pump and the hard stuff, and Taurine to help the hard trainer reach that elusive 'zone.' Rather, Taurine can take you those last few steps to achieving it. Pursuit of getting there again will become an addiction, and before you know you'll be in the company of the hardcore. Lotta love for this stuff, when taken with the right other aminos. CM, as stated, works a charm for me.

  • Taurine (05/02/2008)
  • Review:
I know that this has been talked about a lot on the boards. Just felt that after using it for a good while I'm in a position to give a review based on more than a week or so of use.\n\nAs a bit of background, i work a lot of different shifts. My sleep pattern is all over the place. As a rule i sleep fairly well considering. However, when i read that taurine could act as a sleep aid i thought that it couldn't hurt to try. All i can say is that after taking 5g before bed (whether I'm going to bed at 8am or 10pm) taking some taurine makes all the difference to my quality of sleep. It clears the mind and i seem to dream a lot less when using it. I wake up less often which was sometimes a problem, especially when sleeping in the day. \n\nI also use 5g before a workout and i can say that it really does focus the mind and gives me a better workout in terms of how motivated i am feeling. I'm not the sort of person to post a review on a whim (1st one actually!) and i really can recommend Taurine. It is relatively cheap and works for me. Obviously can't guarantee that it will work for everyone else as i think that supplement effect does vary form person to person.

I brought taurine a few months ago and put a teaspoon in my pre-work out drinks and my works outs were more foccused. I stopped using it for a while and decided to cap it and took 2 caps before my work out and my energy level was up and the amount of weight I could lift was though the roof I could not believe it

  • Helps you work, rest and play (17/07/2007)
  • Review:
I can't comment too much on the bodybuilding aspect as I am involved on other sports rather than BB. But I found Taurine to be very good for helping with both focus and mood. It gives a general mood lift, which is always good :) But it also helps to retain focus and calm when the stress levels can get a bit higher. Good for work and for hard play. In my sport, I find that when stressors increase most, that is when I really need to remain calm and focused - taurine helps me do this. I have also used it at nighttime, and must say I find it easier to awaken in the morning - I assume I get better sleep? But I know I do feel better when I awake.

This stuff looks like fibre glass! It does not have much of taste which is good. I would say stick to the recomended dosage because i seem to get a very sore headache when working out and chronic sweats when i overdose!!!lol. This stuff is excellent for those days when you cant be arsed training. Just take 30-45 mins b4 you go and you will be in the gym for hours!

I use a heaped tea spoon (about 5grams) before workout and after workout and heaped teaspoon of AAKG before workout too. Notice a slight difference, taurine can cheer you up as well me and mate had 5gs each and were laughing more than we usual would. Its also good for preventing hangover, 5gs before you go out with apint of water will help hydrat you. Creatine just gives me cramps so, I am sticking with this supp as its cheap and reasonabley affective.

have been using it with cee and definatly gives you some umph if taken before training. tastes very sweet/sour but nothing that makes you gag or any thing. word of warning it looks a bit like fibre glass when it clumps together, but it breakes up fine in water.
  • Cheap and effective (30/09/2005)

You can't fault the price, and taking a couple of grams in my pre-workout drink seems to give me a bit of 'pep' doing the weights. With this (and a few other things) I get very pumped from a workout. It does taste ever so slightly unpleasant, and it's very noticeable in a drink if taken in a larger dose. (It won't make you gag or anything! -you just know it's there.)

If you are looking for a definite increase in strength then this is it. Id been sitting on a plateau for a while when I started using this stuff straight away I noticed a difference, more strength and more get-up-and-go, comparable to creatine in a lot of ways, with the added bonus that this stuff really does make you feel stronger! It is now a regular part of my supplement plan.

I've been using Taurine for over a month now. I use it daily and as part of my pre & post workout shake. Although the dramitic effect of using taurine for the first time has worn off (not such a dramatic effect) due to getting used to it, I still think this supplement is great. Pumps feel bigger and last longer, I feel larger (don't look larger though) and squeezing out that last rep feels stronger. \r\n\r\nNo noticable taste and mixes great. I will be sticking with this over creatine.
