Overview

Recovery XS is one of the most forward thinking recovery products on the market. Packed with some of the finest ingredients available, Recovery XS will help promote muscle growth, increase recovery rate and have you back in the gym before the dust settles from your last workout!

Recovery XS uses a proven ratio of post-workout carbohydrates and protein for superior glycogen synthesis and muscle tissue rebuilding; the two main mechanisms of recovery. The carbohydrate and protein content are provided through Waxy Maize Starch and Impact Whey Isolate®, respectively. Waxy Maize Starch is a rapidly assimilated carbohydrate which acts fast to restore muscle glycogen with minimal stomach upset. Whey Protein Isolate is a rapidly assimilated protein and is also virtually fat and lactose free and is ideal for building lean mass.

In addition, you will find a massive 4.5g of amino acids and 3g of Creapure® per serving. These two ingredients will ensure your muscles are fully loaded with energy in preparation for your next exercise bout.

Recovery XS also contains a working serving of 5.5g of the excellent amino acid Leucine which is vital for creating a lean building environment to promote tissue growth and has been proven to increase protein synthesis. The Vitamin C content helps flush away all the unwanted toxins and by-products of exercise whilst the Electrolytes help replace all those essential salts lost through sweating.

Putting the same amount of effort into your recovery as you do your training will put you way ahead of the competition so use Recovery XS to ensure your body has all the right ingredients for a fast and effective recovery.

Key Benefits

  • Optimum ratio of protein to carbohydrates
  • Includes electrolyte blend to replace salts lost through sweat
  • Can help reduce the recovery time from heavy training

I have been using my first batch of this in "Choc smooth" for around three weeks. I was almost put off of buying because of the issues with taste but I can categorically say its fine! In fact its quite nice... It's a tiny bit sweet if anything but I'm really clutching at straws as how else were they going to get the carbs in it. Get the sand out guys it tastes fine! Further more: I hurt less and feel stronger...WIN!

Bought the choco smooth, slightly concerned about the taste, given the reviews on here, but it was fine. Mixed with water... yes, slightly chalky, and not exactly a nesquick shake, but then, that's not what its designed for. Easily drinkable, anyway. First impressions today, are of slightly reduced muscle soreness from what I am used to. Will update in a few weeks, after a period of use.

I've just finished my 2nd puch ov the Recovery XS. I use it straight after hard turbo session, TT races or long training rides on the bike. Its great and works well, especially if you are having a long drive home, I feel the difference if I forget to take it. As for the taste... I tried the Strawberry first off, never again. It just tatsed far too chemically. The Chocolate Smooth is way better. It does have its moments when mixing, sometimes it clumps up a bit and has some bitter moments, but about 10 times easier to drink than the Strawberry. I've just ordered the Choc Mint to see how that goes. I use this in combination with MP Max, which I use for shorter rides and when I am doing toning work.

I cant believe you people care so much about taste, forget the taste its what the product does for you. If you all spent more time in the gym instead of whining about the taste u'd probably see better results. Cant fault this product does wht it says on the tin. A+

Bought the Choco Smooth flavour, absolutely nothing wrong with it, it is quite sweet but this is due to the fast acting carbs. Feel fuller straight after a workout and when I come home from the gym I don't feel too tired. Has a good blend of ingredients to aid recovery, I feel stronger and fresher when I return to the gym.

Was looking for a good post workout shake so decided to try this one out, wasnt too put off about the reviews about taste. Product came few days later which was good, tried it the next day and that was the last time i tried it, i chose the choc mint flavour and couldnt stomach it one bit, i tried to pinch my nose and just down it but it was absolutely horrible, few mates tried it and they said it taste ok, so each to their own i guess!!!

On reading the reviews i thought it was going to taste like vomit. I bought chocolate smooth and mixed it with skimmed milk it was absolutely fine bordering on tasty, just shows each to their own. Make your own judgement, but i think great product definately took the edge off all the after exercise aches and pains.

Just started on this today as an attempt to aid muscle recovery after my bike ride to and from work, is a little bit chalky yes, but not as bas as people are saying. I've got the choc mint one and yeah is a little sweet but just neck the lot in one. Never realised has creatine in it too so will be interesting to see the results :)

On paper the shake content looks pretty good. There are a lot of decent ingredients. I have only started using it so the effectiveness is to be judged. The taste is generally very poor and tastes very synthetic / man made (strawberry cream). This could be because there are a lot of ingredients and one could simply combine Instant Whey with Oats and creatine monohydrate add some BCAA's and get a similar result. But can most people be bothered? Probably not. If the results prove good I will buy again.

Product great for getting in those essential carbs and protein after a workout. i train on evenings after work and usually a meal is a headache at gone 9pm so this is great! Has the added benefit of creatine too. On the subject of taste, the first part is ok but then at the back of the tongue is a kinda nasty metallic taste, but hey your using this for the recovery, not a dessert drink right??

Ive been taking this shake after my workouts, I drink either true or impact whey at other times. I dont mind the taste of them (i dont even mind unflavoured). However the taste of this Chocolate recovery xs makes me wretch. It must just be my own personal feeling but Im holding my nose to avoid the sheer bitter foul taste im getting lol. Otherwise a good product from MP as usual :)

I read lots of reviews before I placed my order. After reading all the whinges about taste I was expecting the shake to taste vile. It was absolutely fine! Other than a slight chalkiness it tasted good, not too sweet or sickly! I mixed mine with 500 ml of water using a MP shaker with the wire ball. it got all the bits out! My only criticism would be that it was very foamy (perhaps I over-shook it!). Overall tasty and good value!

Never used a protein shake before but need to now as training for the marathon in April 2012. Product arrived very quickly even on free delivery (ordered sunday night, arrived tuesday mid day). The flavour (choc smooth) is so yummy myself and my husband wanted another!! i bought the MP Max blender bottle too and it was excellent, broke up all the shake within about 10-12 shakes. so far very happy with what i have bought... just hope to see great results from the product now.

I'm using this product in the mornings after running as I was feeling tired and fatigued. It does feel this product is effective however I've had to stop using it just for the bad taste. I've got through half the bag and have been pinching my nose and thinking of England whilst forcing it down however I've reached to point where I can't stomach the taste any longer as it's making me feel sick. I bought the chocolate version as per reading these reviews but still a bad choice.

I wouldn't normally have bought this product. However it can with the New Year Bundle. Compared to the normal MP Impact Whey protein, it doesn't taste as good. It has that chalky texture to it. The contents of the supplement are good and is probably worth it if you can just neck it. Would recommend it to those that can handle the taste.

My second recovery drink brand. I drink chocolate flavoured one with water and little ice with no problems. Its not something I would drink for fun but definitely no issues about the taste. Mixability is good if you dont need to drink it immedialy after shaking. Wait couple minutes and its just fine. Solidifies little bit on the bottom but that can be sorted out with some shaking. Good product, just ordered my second batch for the next 6 months.

I needed something to give me a boost through the day after running in the Mornings and this did the job, it would also help with the recovery process after the gym in the evening. I would take this after my sessions and also before bed, this helped my running in the morning. I had the strawberry and mixed with water tasted great. I would also mix with the porridge oats, but this doesnt really mix that well, but still helped in the recovery process

Bought this to replace my usual protein/carb mix. I drink it to refuel after my bike commute home. I had been experiencing a lot of muscle cramps and twitches at night, but they seem to have eased off, so I'm happy with the results. I can confirm reports that the shake is lumpy and chalky (I felt pretty sick the first time) but you get used to it. Chug it down and think of England.

Ive just switched from Hurricane Xs to Recovery Xs and just had my first shake tonight so cannot really comment on effectiveness but if the Strawberry Recovery Xs taste like the Hurricane Xs it is rather horrible, its really really sweet and hard to take down, the choclate flavour i now have is alot better although still not a drink id say is pleasurable to drink, i find its best to use a spoon to mix the product and not use the shaking method as you still end up with lumps. Will be posting another review in a few weeks on the effectiveness of the product.

Ive just started using Recovery XS over the past 2 months. Yes its true it doesn't mix as well as it could be they taste with milk is great (not man enough to try it with water) and the way it works is amazing. The next day I am up and on my feet with no worries. Good stuff. Will try the strawberry one next.

Very simple review for the strawberry (i don't like chocolate drinks so won't try that) - This tastes foul but works great. I take it with water as i can't take milk on the road with me. The consistancy is horrible, it froths up badly and the froth tastes really bad, then it's pure liquid underneath with no thickness to it at all. The taste is revolting, i add 3 full scoops of strawberry nesquik to the strawberty which makes it drinkable but still not at all nice. As a comparison, I very much enjoy True MRP and I'm fairly neutral about Total Protein, both strawberry flavour. This is the only product i use nesquik in. Having said that, it's one of the few products i can tell you for sure works. If i have it after performing/training, I don't ache as much the next day or two, if i don't have it, i do ache dignificantly more. I take it purely for the recovery and for that it is invaluable.

Unfortunately I found the Strawberry Cream flavour totally undrinkable due to it's taste. It's an extremely chalky taste and texture, which ultimately ended up with me giving up on the product long before I ran out of it. I have used various supplements in the past and have never had a problem with taste/texture to the point that I won't use a product. However, in this case I just couldn't get past it. The powder no matter how much I stirred/shook/etc remained slightly granulated, which on its on isn't really an issue for me, but in combination with the taste of it was another nail in the coffin. In the end I decided to use Hurricane XS as a post-gym recovery shake instead as there is a greater choice of flavours and is generally easier to drink as a result.

I use this product after hard Muay Thai sessions or other complimentary sessions (strength, cardio) and have found it to be pretty good. Yes it is a little grainy but that isn't really an issue. After a hard session when you are completely spent a little grainyness is fine when you know you are sticking all the goodness back into your body you have just used. I have found I recover well afterwards, ache a little less the next day and with a hectic schedule of work and training it provides the convenience of a one stop shop to keep me on track. I opt for the chocolate smooth and it tastes a bit like sweet nutella i guess. I wouldn't order it at a restaurant with the Mrs but it is definately fit for purpose and seemingly cheaper than leading brands.

I have been using this for some time and it used to be great but they must have changed the formula or something because the last two batches have had large white lumps in that just will not mix! The aftertaste is also very sharp now which it never used to be. It does however do the job required of it very well. I would recommend it if they change back to the old mix, if not then go for Hurricane.

The smooth chocolate flavour tastes really good with water, mixes well although it does foam up a bit. Definitely feel less achy when using it. The main problem though is the powder itself does not seem to be blended that well, i noticed when i was transferring the powder to a tub that there where loads of large white lumps. Concerned that im not getting all of the ingredients in the shake in the right proportions

I use Hurricane XS on a day to day basis and after workouts but use this for straight after a run and have noticed a real difference to recovery after runs. But ... the taste isn't good. The recovery xs tastes really good, a bit different to the impact and total protein , but maybe due to the added things like creapump and wms. The mixability is good, but even after a good shake in the blender, i still find myself chewing on lumps of powder. But it seems to be working a great deal, and feel much better after workouts than previously not using this. Make sure i shake this hard for about a minute and it may mix well, but sandy texture. Will be ordering another bag when i run out , will go with the chocolate next time, thanks MP.

I was a bit worried about trying Recovery XS after some of the reviews on here, as I have a pretty bad gag reflex. I bought it was part of the rugby bundle, which is a pretty good overall set of supps, and got the strawberry cream flavour. I'm always a bit skeptical of something good for you that apparently tastes like sweets.. but this stuff does actually taste really nice and is packed full of post workout goodness, only missing HMB really. I do mix it with milk.. so maybe that's where others are going wrong.. but I'd really recommend this.. especially after a Pulse fuelled workout! Thank you MP for another great product.

Great post workout supplement. I train 4 days back to back and using this product (along with good amount of rest) after every workout does help me to perform the next day at the gym. The taste is a little gritty and slightly bitter (because of the ceapure in the mix). I tried the chocolate flavor first and didn't like it. Now i am trying the strawberry one and is better tasting out of the 2 flavors. Mixability is good, at times i do get tiny lumps, but a little extra water would eliminate that issue. Plus you get a Large MP Scoop along with every bag, so you don't have to spend that little extra for one!!!

I find this a little hard to mix with just the shaker. It tends to be lumpy and I sometimes find myself digging around in the bottom of the bottle with a fork to mix it properly. the taste is not great, but the chocolate one I find no problem to consume. I do think it works really well though. I find I have a lot more energy after a workout than I did before, and I don't get as much muscle fatigue or aching as before. Given that I am now lifting and working harder than before, the reduced muscle fatigue is very welcome. So I would definately recommend this as a post workout drink.

I've used Recovery XS for over two years now and it is fantastic. I average 4 or 5 weights sessions a week and this product has helped me gain 4 stone in muscle over that time. When I order from MP, I always make sure I order some, as it is my most important supplement. I have no real issues with mixability and taste, although I would say that if you mixed a couple of scoops in water and left it there for 30 minutes, it does start to solidify at the bottom. I only use the Chocolate Smooth flavour and I found a way around this- simply add 1/2 scoop of chocolate whey when you mix your drink and it doesn't solidify at the bottom of your bottle any more.

I have taken this shake for a couple of months now immediately after training and i have seen some encouraging results. I train hard 5 - 6 times a week and i always recover well inbetween sessions. I do put this down to a good protein rich diet but i also, after trying numerous other supplements, believe this shake to be a fantastic aid in muscle recovery. As for the taste ??? Idid not find it too bad to be honest , however if you want a great tasting shake try mcdonalds or burger king ...thats not what this is about!!!! its not about taste..its results!! Would recommend as a great aid in recovery with a protein rich diet, hard effective sessions, good form and determination .

Been using this for a while and here are my thoughts: 1. It does make enable me to train more consistently with less ache, so it seem to work well in the formulation. 2. It does go off so stick to the BBD (obvious I know, but if you tub it and don't copy the date it can happen) as it gets rather odd tasting. 3. Taste is a big one with this, the choc smooth is mediocre with all the other reviews getting it spot on with chalky etc.. However 1 x cap of natural extract (mint, orange etc) in with it and its a 5 star taste, MP you can have that for free. Maybe I just love mint choc but makes it a lot more refreshing along with half ice cold milk and half water. Just what you need after a good workout. All those put off with the taste, give it shot. Won't be shifting off this product for a while!

I mix this half water half skimmed milk, and use as designed - after training. Seem to maintain pump longer, but that could be due to training harder wiuth Hurricane XS

Big fan of recovery shakes. After a long road run or an offroad session, for me they are the difference between a normal day and a day spent hobbling around wishing I was slumped on the sofa. Have used SIS REGO for a while but decided to seek out something without aspartame. In terms of effectiveness this is on a par with REGO but is much better value for money. The strawberry flavour isn't as natural tasting as the REGO but for me taste isn't that important as long as I can keep it down... Can't say that the Creapure has had any real noticeable effects yet, but will definitely stick with this for the foreseeable future. Also using Tri-Carb pre and during longer sessions. One point though, I have read in many sources that the ideal carb to protein ratio for recovery is around 3:1, this is closer to 2:1.

Have used a bag of this, strawberry flavour. I can honestly say it says what does on the tin, well should say on the bag. I bike 26 miles a day on commute to work. I use this in the evening when i get home and I'm ready to go the next day. Wasn't particularly keen on strawberry so am now trying chocolate . Not sure on the scoring system, but have marked it 1 for excellent and 5 for bad.

This works very well for me as a general post exercise maintenance (playing tennis and gym). I'm almost 40 and wanted to make sure I was recovering properly and prepping for my next session. Even after using one drink post exercise 2-3 times a week I noticed a difference when I ran out and stopped using it for a month, more tendon soreness and stiffness.

I'm on my third bag now (1st choc, 2nd strawberry, back to choc; for good now). Mixing: Standard shaker with 250ml of water after a work out. No hassles Taste: Its nothing special but theres absolutely nothing wrong with the taste. But we aren't taking it for the taste. Its the results. No idea why everyones moaning. Effects: So-far so good. I only been working out 5-6 months, first 3 months or so, I didn't eat right and had no shakes. I saw virtually no gains. Starting out with 6 meals a day and this for after gym and have seen 7lb (1/2 stone) gain in the last 8 weeks. Overall: the before effects of this took it strain on myself with recovery taking longer. This does seem to help and i've seen gains, whether thats just all the food i've been eating or a contribution due to the shake. I'd say, give it a go, if it doesn't do you justice, then spend double on another recovery product. This does the job just fine for me :)

A good product for when not knowing quite what you need post workout. With this MP has done all the work for you. As stated the taste is a bit off but its not supposed to be a McDonalds milkshake, I started adding a scoop of Maltodextrin to sweeten it up a bit and was fine.

I have recently started biking to work (18mile trip) and stop off on the gym on the way home four times a week for some big weight sessions. Initially this killed me and I would be a complete zombie for the rest of the evening. I started using this stuff and can bike home after a big sesh and have enough energy to get me through the evening. It is foamy, so it's best to mix it and leave it to rest for a minute before drinking. The taste is pretty good as shakes go. Not as nice as True Whey but much tastier than other companies. It works out about £1 per serving which is much cheaper than buying the ingredients and making it yourself. You will still get DOMS after a massive session, but it does reduce the effect to a degree. I'm using this in conjunction with Creapump as a pre-workout drink. Another great product that gets you in the zone and gives you good pump. Two great products from MP!

taste is fine, it actually doesnt taste of anything, more foamy than other protein powders, which makes drinking it a bit more sickly, but the taste is fine. Didnt notice any immediate improvement in recovery but also had a stomach bug the next day, but not attributing that to the shake.\n\nGood taste, brilliant value.

This product is great, i reconmend this to anybody that is thinking about getting competitor brands at a more inflated price. The only thing i could ask for is maybe shrinking the packaging as only a 1/3 of the bag is actually used(have requested this in the forum). If you do use other competitor recovery products then really consider getting this and i fell you won't be disappointed.

I am by no means a professional athlete - quite the opposite in fact but I do train in martial arts and have taken to running of late. I've tried other products on the market but have recently purchased Recovery XS after reading the many positive reviews on this site. I've used the product twice now, both after running sessions.\n\nFirstly, the taste - after reading reviews on here and reading the number of negative comments regarding the taste I was expecting the worst. However, I ordered the strawberry flavour and can honestly say that the taste is fine, in fact I like it and prefer it to other leading brands that I have tried! Do not be put off by the negative comments on taste - as somebody has already stated, taste is subjective and at the end-of-the-day its the products performance that counts.\n\nSecondly, I always, regardless of stretching and warm-up/down exercises ache considerably the day after training. I've only taken the product twice so can't really endorse it other than to say in my brief experience the product has worked wonders thus-far and that I'd recommend it it to others.\n\nI'll keep you posted on progress but thought I'd share my experience to-date, for what its worth.

AA* for Recovery, The taste is bareable what I'm going to do next time is use less water to mix the formula and drink some water to wash it down afterwards or just think how good I'm going to feel when my body absorbs it, I'd rather have bad tasting drink than loads of crap added to make it taste well. There are flavorings you can buy from MP. \n As for the creatine it is only 3grams of the creatine monohydrate that is less eaisily digestable than the Creatine Ethyl Ester HCl (CEE) so cycling 8 weeks on CEE and 1 week off CEE it will not matter having 3g of creatine in this amazing Recovery Formula.

i have taken supplements for 12 years as a professional fighter. after reading the reviews on this product here are my true thoughts\n\nbad.. i agree that the inclusion of creatine is a problem if regularly using this product as it ruins your "off" period and could quite easily be added yourself\n\ngood.. this product is without competition the best post workout shake i have used. it is perfect (bar the creatine!)\nalso it "IS" very cost affective! i used to add malterdextrine to a whey isolate and concentrate mix and sometimes add creatine and drink an elecolyte drink and take 500mg vit c tablet in addittion after training! this drink has the lot and more (using arguably a better simple sugar than malterdextrine) and believe me, buying all the above seperately is ALOT more expensive than buying this product no matter where you scorce your supplements! \n\ni still rate this product very highly indeed, infact 1 of my favorite all time seriously, but would give it maximum stars if the creatine was left to us to add of our own accord!

If you want a product that works, then this is it. My recovery time has been cut quite dramatically and i hardly ache at all by the second day.\nIgnoring the "perfect ratio" of the products and all that, the products themselves are nowhere near as expensive individually as they are together with this. So bottom line, it works very well. But for the products you're getting it's expensive. If you take 90g of it a day, you're paying £20 for 20 days worth. Regardless it works well, so i will probably buy some more with my next purchase from Myprotein.

Hey \n\nI did use XL Synthesis from another supplier until I was told that recovery XS is the same product by the same manufacture! It has similar amounts of whey protein, waxy maize starch and leucine etc but the taste is a world apart in the favour of the Synthesis so I dont think this is true. \n\nAs a result of this I started to mix with milk and my body fat went north of 20% and up to 130kg. I am still using this product but using water and I an back under 125kg and 20% body fat. \n\nMy only dilemma is the Synthesis works out at £23.25 per KG Vs £11.62 per KG based on a 2 month supply for me.\n\nPS DO NOT USE ParcelFarse aka ParcelForce twice they have bashed my parcel, select the other option. \n\nAlex\n\n

Just had my first taste of the chocolate flavour, it smells very nice, like Angel Delight, while drinking it has a neutral/sweet taste, chocolate colour. Slightly bitter aftertaste of artificial sweetner (not as strong as say Diet Coke), but mixes very well and has the consistency of water with no lumps when mixed with a spoon. I drank with water, I think it would be too sweet with anything else :) Overall, I'm pleased and look forward to training my way through this massive bag I've got lying on my bedroom floor, also got a large measuring scoop free inside.

I've found recover to be a very good addition to the supplements I take. I disagree with the negative comments, if you want a product that contains a lot of effective ingredients at a cheap price then you have to sacrifice a little on the taste front. I've tried all three flavours and would recommend the strawberry as the best. What's most important is that this product works, the flavour is secondary for me.
