Waxy maize starch is a complex, long-chain, high molecular weight carbohydrate that is free of sugar and lactose. Our Waxy Maize Starch has a high percentage of Amylopectin (95-99%) and a low percentage of Amylose (1-5%). Amylopectin molecules are larger, heavier and easier for the stomach to digest. Therefore, foods that have little Amylose and lots of Amylopectin are more rapidly digested and absorbed.
Waxy maize starch has a much higher molecular weight than dextrose and maltodextrin, as a result it therefore passes through the stomach much faster, eliminating the risk of stomach discomfort. Not only this, but WMS acts like a pump, pulling the nutrients along with water into the body tissue at the correct speed and osmolality for your body to fully utilise. This means when consuming WMS there is no stomach cramping and no bloated feeling. Since WMS is absorbed so rapidly it can easily be consumed whenever a fast release of energy is required.
Waxy maize starch is suitable for almost all individuals including vegetarians and vegans. Ideally, WMS is suitable for those who are physically active and want to increase their energy levels through the intake of complex carbohydrates.
WMS is soluble in water, mixes best with a shaker but can also be shaken and consumed immediately. It has a neutral taste and is an excellent consumed on its own or when added to formulas such as protein shakes and pre workout drinks.
Add desired amount of water or fruit juice into our shaker. Then add 1 and a third MP large scoops (50g), shake and consume.
1 x level MP Plastic Scoop (large) weighs 37g. (not included)
This product is 100% Waxy Maize Starch with nothing added or taken away.

Waxy maize starch is a fantastic post work out carb.
Could be better
- (04 / Jun / 2014)
Been adding this to my post workout shakes for about 3 weeks now, seems to give desired results. Taste is vile, although it wasn't purchased for taste, and mixing with whey it isn't a problem. One drawback is the fact that it goes absolutely everywhere when decanting, and with the consistency of a thick flour, it's not the easiest to clear up.
Would recommend as a great, fast acting post workout carb. Saying this, I will be moving back to dextrose after my bag is finished.Goes Well With:Whey
Good post workout supplement

Use this post workout to replenish lost glycogen's, seems to aid recovery, great value alternative to Optimum Nutrition Waxy Maize. Taste is a little odd but nothing too peculiar...Goes Well With:Water, protein shake etc.

I was amazed at the mixability of this product. Given that it has "starch" in its name, I was prepared for a gooey, thick and difficult-to-swallow mixture. But happily I was wrong about that! Two scoops of this in my post-workout shake dissolves in seconds with just a few good shakes, and the shake remains easy to swallow as ever. Great product!

This Waxy Maize Starch is one of the best products from Myprotein. I would definitely recommend it! Goes Well With:Impact Whey Protein

I was a bit dubious about buying this at first as it appeared to be a 'magical substance'.
I used this for three months and after this period I loaded on 16lbs of mass!
At first I was producing around 1/2lbs per week.
This is a great post-workout supplement, add 2.5 scoops to your protein shake. This works out around 500 Kcal 0g Fat 120G carbsGoes Well With:Protein shake
So far so good

I ordered the Waxy Maize Starch on the advise of my Personal Trainer who uses it.
The product arrived on time and is easy to use and mix with my protein shake. The taste is pretty good too! It's too early to tell the results as I have only been taking it for around a week, however the signs are encouraging.

I have been using "Myprotein" products for 4 years now. rotating different products in to help with a variety of different diets both during bulking and cutting cycles. They have a wide range of well engineered supplements and training aids that if you do the correct research can all play an essential role in achieving your training goals. I managed to fumble my way through different products with other supplement companies and reached my target weight of 18 stone by the age of 18. However I was not a very well shaped 18 stone. There was a lot of excess bulk and at the wrong angle you could mistake me for someone who had done very little if any training at all. I had been focused on just bulking and put on a lot of the wrong type of weight. Since using Myprotein supplements and reading up on all the helpful hints and dieting tips they provide on there website I am now 23 years of age and sitting comfortable at 21 stone 2 and have a body fat of just 12%. Thanks a lot to all the staff at Myprotein for all their help and guidance.
Does the job

Its a better alternative to other fast carbs like dextrose or Maltodextrin, because you are less likely to put on weight from it. Don't listen those bro-scientists who claim that it is just a corn flour. I have tried both and this is digested much quicker, because it is more processed. Ideal refueling gun for post-workout. It mixes well, you do not even need a shaker, spoon will do. So, if you want to take fast carbs after workout, but not risk putting on fat, than this is the way to go. It is quite expensive, but thing about how much you waste on many useless things. This at least has a purpose.Goes Well With:Whey Protein

This Waxy Maize Starch is a great product, I love it. It's a great source of carbs, mixes great and the taste is good.Goes Well With:Impact Whey Protein

As a long distance cyclist I need to get a burst of energy without stopping and waxy maize mixed in with water and orange squash has been a really good addition to my cycling routine. No need to fiddle with energy bars ( not easy when riding),I can just reach down for my bottle and get the energy I need. Goes Well With:Orange squash!
- (04 / Mar / 2013)
Very easy to mix into my shake, very fine powder that mixes in, has no bitter or negative taste whatsoever. Incredibly easy and cheap carb source for post workout shake. Highly recommended.Goes Well With:Any MyProtein Protein powder.
- (27 / Sep / 2012)
"Brilliant product, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. Mixes well, the texture of the shake tastes weird first time but once you get used to it its actually pretty good, thickens the shake up and dilutes the flavour of whey powders which are otherwise strong. Good source of fast digesting carbs AND SUGAR FREE! GLUTEN FREE! NO ITS NOT LIKE WHITE BREAD. NO GLUTEN. NO DAIRY. NO SUGAR. perfect product. "
- (25 / Apr / 2012)
"I love this stuff, yes it is just corn flour but a this price and in theses sizes its a must have for any post-workout shake, fast acting SUGAR FREE Carbohydrates, cant find a negative. Also it thickens up my shakes, i only use 70g in with 30g of impact whey deluex and it tasts amazing! "
- (27 / Mar / 2012)
As has been said this stuff is messy it gets everywhere but more importantly if you research this prodcut you'll find it's no better than plain white bread so really you'd be better off just eating that. I'm sticking with oats as my complex carbs.
- (21 / Feb / 2012)
I use with any fruit juice I have in the house. Particularly good with orange juice that has pulp because for some reason it's far less grainy then. Definately great after workout when feeling tired.
- (11 / Feb / 2012)
"great value for money and yes it doesn't taste the best when drunk on its own but i mix it with my PWO protein and its fine although a little messy to use. i saw somebody has mentioned that it is simply corn flour, which,is true but the price is fine and i am yet to find somewhere who sells corn flour in sacks. In my view this is no more expensive."
- (13 / Oct / 2011)
"I never drank stand alone as I mix with my post workout which is Total Protein. As far as Ive seen mixed well, taste well with total protein. I am absolutely happy with purchase! I would 100% recomend this product. Specially post workout as your sugar levels goes down."
- (29 / Jul / 2011)
Bought some of this and am having problems finding the right ratio of water to powder cos i find it goes really lumpy and you get lumps of powder. Tried drinking it with water and squash and thought it had an alright taste but had a texture like jelly and lumps of pure powder which made it a chore to drink. Any recommendations would appreciate them :)
- (10 / May / 2011)
"This stuff may work, but it's a nightmare to use because it's so fine. Tends to get all over every surface including the clothes your wearing when you try to scoop it into a mixer. Personally I've taken to mixing it in the garage. May try to combine with whey protein in a large container to improve the situation."
- (11 / Mar / 2011)
"Good Post workout product for those who are wishing to gain lean muscle. Taste very funny as you can feel the powder on your tongue can make some people feel sick, but if you drink a little water you should feel better. Overall good product. (make your own weight gainer by adding protein and creatine)"
- (08 / Jan / 2011)
"Best post-workout carb!! WMS' advance is its big molecular mass, absorbs quicker than other carbs; it restores glycogen stores faster than any other carb. Also it will not make you feel bloated like dextrose does. Because WMS is absorbed so quickly, it helps improve the absorption of other supplements as well."
- (27 / Dec / 2010)
"great product, ideal with some whey protein after a heavy workout, doesn't bloat either! Tasteless so adding a bit of Nesquik works great for a tasty shake, thanks MP, top service and products :)"
- (28 / Oct / 2010)
I don't see any problem with the taste or mixing.. use enough water and some squash (I like lemon).
- (14 / Sep / 2010)
terrible....tastes worse than ma girlfriends cooking movin back to dextrose
- (18 / Aug / 2010)
I bought a 2.5kg bag and I think this stuff is brill! Used it during football and my weights session and its easy to drink and doesn't give you any cramps or pain when you have during a workout; even football or running. No bloating and low GI. When I first got it I thought it tasted weird but I can easily have it on its own because it doesn't taste of much. If you struggle with that just use some flavouring or a drop of Robinsons and your ready to go. Mixes fine. I will certainly buy again.
- (06 / Aug / 2010)
This product is absolute crap. It is finely ground corn flour. You would be better off cooking with it. Don't do as I did by trying to save a few quid - go for the real slow release carb option that is Vitargo. Myprotein shame on you for promoting a product as something that is advanced when we can buy simple corn flour in any major supermarket for a fraction of the price. This is about as effective to a sportsman as eating a batch of heavy scones right before a competition. Gut busting.
- (27 / Jul / 2010)
"It certainly isn't tasteless, i was using malto and whey but bought some more supplements now i'm taking it more seriously and had egg white protein and this in a shake and gagged, obviously i assumed it was the egg white protein that tasted rank but it's actually this. It's also got a horrible chalky texture. As with all most things i'm used to it now but i definitely don't enjoy drinking it."
- (07 / Apr / 2010)
This is the business! I used to use Maltodextrin post work out but gave this a go after reading up about it. It's twice as much as Maltodextrin but it's even better! Mixes so well and is very light on the stomach! Awesome for post workout recovery!
- (18 / Feb / 2010)
"I was recommended to try using a carbohydrate shake as I run regularly and reading this found it stated for post workout consumption. I have found taking 50g in 8mls of water just before a run gives a great boost taking away the tired early feelings. I have taken after it blended oats in milk which kicks in nicely after the wma wears off for my longer runs. Over 40mins i have taken wma again to boost and found it works well not giving any signs of bloating. Found it non tasting and as only mixed with a little water easy to swallow, but mixing with ordinary squash adds flavour if required. Certainly helping my pb goals increase so can only recommend. More importantly just enjoy your training :-)"
Maybe not best for post workout
- (13 / Jan / 2010)
"Benefits are that the taste is bland and no bloating. However, post workout you might be better off sticking with malto or dextrose as Waxy Maize may not be quite what it has been marketed to be (i.e. a rapidly absorbed carb source)."
- (28 / Oct / 2009)
"This is awesome. The best form of carbs for taking during a workout. \n\nUnlike Maltrodextrine and Dextrose, WMS will not make you bloated. You can still take it pre and post workout. \n\nI never use Maltrodextrine and Dextrose since I found that.\n\nI train MMA and we do a lot of grappling, hence lot of rolling around, this prevent you from puking all your carbs on the mat!"
- (31 / Jul / 2009)
"Tried this for 6 weeks, saw absolutely no improvement in performance. It is like flour and you have to be careful as it can get all over your clothes. Therefore very impractical. Taste isn't too good either. I'm sticking to dextrose."
Jury is still out
- (12 / Jul / 2009)
"I tried a KG because of all the positive replies on here. I read an interesting article online on the actual scientific evidence for WMS, there isn't that much tbh :s I did not get hit with a huge energy burst like many people on here have found. I tried it post workout and also I tried it when playing football at half time. Doesn't seem to bloat at all. The taste is bland, and very grainy, creates a lot of mess because its texture is a lot like talcum powder so be careful when opening and using scoops etc. The aftertaste is strong, its not pleasant but not horrid either."
all you need
- (02 / Jun / 2009)
"this stuff is amazing, i can kill myslef in the gym, head to the changing rooms for one of these then want to head straight back into the gym, its amazing.\nalso works as a great half time shake for rugby, its really light and gives absolutely no cramping.\n\na lot of people underestimate the importance of carbohydrates over proteins in pw/o shakes, this is perfect for replenishing all the energy you lose in exercise and start recovery asap."

this stuff is really good i mean it is so good that after i finshed my woorkout i could of gone again defo buy dome more
Best for sparring
- (19 / May / 2009)
"Been drinking a solution between bouts of grappling sparring and i reckon ive added about an hour+ onto my training times. Usually KO'ed after 2 hours, now im the last to leave the mat. Great stuff, tastes neutral, a little chalky in texture maybe but thats all...."
- (22 / Apr / 2009)
The best carbohydrate after workout. After the Vitargo...
pre workout drink
- (13 / Apr / 2009)
i use wms in my pre workout drink i mix 80 grams of wms with 40 grams of amped or similiar powder. i have it half an hour before i train and the results are spectacular. i get massively pumped and stay that way till the end of my session i mix it with 500 ml of water and drink another 500 ml as i train and not only do i get an amazing pump but i have good steady energy levels too
Ultra Running (Marathon to 100km)
- (11 / Mar / 2009)
Started using WMS on recommendation of William Sichel as I've had digestion problems with other carb drinks during my racing. Since I started taking this I have set new PB's and last weekend won the Wales Ultra Running Championship for the first time. Has a chalky taste and you need to shake it well. I use a 6% solution which works for me.(60g to one litre water)
- (25 / Jan / 2009)
"Heard alot of rave reviews for this stuff, so I thought i'd give it a try - wasnt disapointed at all.\nI do HIT and I ALWAYS feel knackered after the gym, so much so id fall asleep on the bus on the way home.\nI tried this, and I feel great."
- (19 / Jan / 2009)
"Tried this in my post workout shake today (mixed into MP Max Total protein XS mint choc with Creatine ethyl ester HCL) and it gave it a slightly nutty taste...dunno if I'm imagining it but was rather pleasant!\nixed and tasted well and feel quite good after a good workout so hope to include it as a stapel in my recovery process. Only 4 star rated as first day try but likely, as normal with all MP, to be yet another perfect stars"
If you can stomach it
- (10 / Jan / 2009)
"Although this may well be fantastic for its fast releasing sugar, when i recieved it... well it was like mixing flour into your shake. It has a very strange texture that personally my stomach couldn't handle. Got 4.95kg left of the stuff :("
No more hurt
- (09 / Jan / 2009)
"I'm glad I tried this product, I used to take dextrose PWO, but it made my stomach to hurt."
- (02 / Jan / 2009)
"great pre carb drink for gym or any outdoor sport,, 3 scoops of it before gym is twice as better as any oats. but pure vitargo could be better than waxy maize cause it has been tested and proved.. but must say i have been impress with the waxy maize and the recovery response after training even though.."
- (05 / Oct / 2008)
"This must be the best carbohdrate you can put in your post-workout shake! excellent recovery, similar to Vitargo but at a fraction of the price!\nGood taste and mixability.\n\nDefinately recommended!"
- (28 / Jun / 2008)
"This stuff is great. I've tried dextrose and maltodextrin and both are way too sweet for my liking, this stuff tastes of nothing and mixes great with protein powder and flavouring. Plus it doesn't give me a bad stomach like dextrose and maltodextrin. Would also recommend this over super fine oats. I've tried them all and this is the best!"
