Maltodextrin is a high quality complex carbohydrate sourced from corn starch which provides a great source of fast release energy.
Although Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate, it rates quite highly on the Glycemic index (GI) just below simple carbohydrates like Dextrose. This means it causes your blood sugar levels to rise quickly, providing a rapid increase in available energy levels.
Maltodextrin is the ideal carbohydrate for use whenever a quick and easily accessible source of energy is required and allows your body to replace used glycogen stores rapidly.

After running out of Vitargo Pure I was shocked to see it has disappeared from Myprotine.com. I hope it will be back soon, so I was on the hunt for a replacement! I have been told that Maltodextrin is the next best thing. It mixes well and as I always mix it with Impact whey Isolate choc smooth the taste is nice and sweet. It is thinner than Vitargo when mixed with water but that makes little difference. I use it purely in my post workout shake, but i know you can take it during your workout as a boost.

I am endurance athlete and use this as fuel for long cycle rides and sportives - just mix with water and lemon juice and its a much cheaper alternative to high 5 etc.
Mixability - I have purchased this for several years and sometimes its a fine powder and at other times is in small grains like caster sugar. The small grain are much easier to mix in water than the fine powder. The fine powder gets air bubbles trapped in it and is a real pain to mix - please make this more granular in future or affer two options

I take Maltodextrin just before and during a workout. It's a great little extra to have whilst training. I use it before training with nitric oxide which gives me a major boost. Then mix with EEA with a little blackcurrant. It mixes quite badly, but does not put me off using or rebuying it. As far as slow release sugars go, Maltodextrin is a must. I can work out for 2 hours without too much loss in strength, it's not a miracle powder so you still have to work hard for your gains but it definitely helps.Goes Well With:Protein and Glutamine

I am using maltodextrin to get an energy boost so it has to be able to do basically double my normal running mileage in preparation for a marathon. Although I have plenty of experience running marathons and ultras my preparation for this run, up to about 3 weeks ago, has been poor, and I now have less than 3 weeks to go. Maltodextrin dissolves easily and is almost tasteless - it's just very slightly sweet - so will go well when mixed into squash and just about any drink. I've been taking maltodextrin for a month now and I've noticed more energy at the gym and a quick boost when I need it. This is a great product to add quality carbs to your diet. This stuff really is the Bees Knees for Cycling Energy/Endurance/Recovery when mixed with Fructose
Mix 80G of this with 40g of Fructose with a gram of Electrolyte and a Pinch of Sea Salt and Fruit Juice for Flavour for a 750ml Water Bottle - Easy to mix just in the bottle so can take some with you for longer rides (Tastes fine even without the juice.)
You can drink as much as you want during a really hard workout and it will not upset your stomach in any way and will propel you to levels you will not believe with full hydration and Nutrition needs! No need for any gells or any food!
I Drink a 750 Bottle without the Electrolyte or Salt 1 hour before my ride with 200 g of Caffeine and top up my Caffeine with 30g chewed pill after each hour - Washed down with this stuff and drink a bottle an hour

As a cyclist, the need for fast complex carbs is a must, Maltodextrin does the job excellently. I use one large scoop in a mixture of Pulse and an Electrolyte tablet. It

I train early before work. I normally squeeze in some porridge and whey pre-workout, but needed something post-workout so a friend suggest this Maltodextrin. 2:1 and 4:1

Previously, I purchased Maltodextrin and electrolytes and used it on its own to good effect.
This time, I'm trying out my own blend of what is marketed by others as "2:1" and "4:1".
I purchased maltodextrin, fructose and Impact whey isolate and made up my own 2:1 [malotdextrin:fructose] and 4:1 [carb:protein] mixes, with the addition of electrolytes to avoid cramp. The carb element of the 4:1 mix is 2:1 maltodextrin:fructose.
The addition of the fructose sweetens the overall mix and is a lower GI than maltodextrin. The protein element in the 4:1 helps on long spins and can also be used for recovery.
I opted for the unflavoured version of everything and it's very drinkable. I'm finding the 4:1 mix great for long spins and i'm not suffering as much as before afterwards, with not the same crash and burn as before!
I'll definitely be restocking when I run out. These are great products!Goes Well With:Fructose

I've been body building for nearly 17 years now. I've always prided myself on being one of the biggest blokes in the room who doesn't use any supplements. But I'm getting old now and have found myself struggling to train as I used to. So needed something to help get my energy flowing. I didn't want protein or creatine or supplements of that sort. I'm a strong believer that anything that helps you get big quick will in turn make you get small quicker when you stop using.
This maltodextrin is fantastic. I only bought as I wanted a carb shake for energy pre training and it's super cheap. But it's great. I really can't complain. It mixes great. Has no taste. I mix 50g with 1pt of red top milk. Taste just like drinking normal milk. (Slightly thicker). I drink as I'm walking to gym. You can feel a surge of energy going through you before you've even managed to finish the shake. It's the same as strong caffeine but it's a long energy source rather than a caffeine induced quick power surge. And once again I'm managing 1 and half to 2 hr training sessions at full weight and rep size.
It doesn't create abnormal strength or water retention or anything of similar effect. The body doesn't become susceptible and reliant towards having an increased level of this within the body to function properly (as it does with protein or creatine if you use for a few months) and if you stop using, the body won't eat at the muscle to source the extra amount of this required to perform at full potential. Put simply, this gives you extra endurance to train with. Exactly like having a heavy carb loaded meal before going. But without the bloated feeling. If you don't train, you don't drink one. But you don't need the extra endurance so the body wont search for it.
All in all, it's exactly what I needed at a price much much cheaper than I expected. Going to order 10 kg now.

This product is probably the best valued fast acting carb on the web.
I use it before every workout. It gives you that energy you need after a hard days work to fully focus on the gym session ahead. You can use in before during and after which is a bonus as it's hard to eat carbs after a workout for me.
I recommend this product to anyone wanting to increase carb intake and also increase energy.

I use this Maltodextrin in my post workout shake and it's great at helping to replenish the Gloycogen stores of my muscles after a hard session. It can also be used in other shakes taken through the day to increase overall calories if required.
It does sometime mix a little cloggy, but in all honesty it's most probably only when not given enough time to mix well. Goes Well With:Any whey protein

Cheap Sugary Carbs

I mix Maltodextrin with instant oats for a mixed release carb drink. This stuff is one step away from pure sugar, but is just about complex enough to be considered carbs.
I keep it around for an instant boost, and to make sure my body isn't doing too much work splitting starches into sugars for brain juice.
Your hand will get slightly sticky (like rubbing it with icing sugar) when getting it out of the bag, and the powder tastes slightly aspartane on the tongue, but it makes for a sweet shake (no chemical taste when mixed), it's great with a splash of vanilla for a watery warm Mcflurry!
This mixes well and does the job.
