Amino Acids are complex chemicals that are the building blocks of protein, which in turn are required for the creation of new tissue, and the repair of existing cells. An Essential Amino Acid cannot be synthesised or created by the body, and must come from the diet. Whilst a regular diet is enough to supply most people with all the amino acids that they require, anyone involved in heavy training may require a supplement to ensure enough of the various essential amino acids are consumed to meet the body's needs.
Essential Amino Acids (EAA's) are required in order to build new tissue and help with cellular repair which takes place when muscles are recovering. Getting the right amount within a diet helps athletes to improve their physique and also recover quicker from exercise. The main essential amino acids required by the body are L Leucine, L Isoleucine, L Valine, L Lysine, L Phenylalanine, L Threonine, L Histidine, L Methionine, L Tryptophan. These can be found in small quantities in natural foods.
We require all the different essential amino acids as part of our diet for a number of reasons including cellular repair, but they are also required in order to get the most out of protein rich foods. If you do not get enough essential amino acids in your diet, the body will not extract the maximum nutrients from protein sources, and the calories in the protein will be stored as fat. The requirement for a balanced number of amino acids in the diet is known as 'limiting protein utilisation'.
A good supplement will contain essential amino acids in the correct ratios. This will improve their uptake in the body, and provide maximum nutritional benefit. Increasing the intake of essential amino acids will allow athletes to train at a higher intensity for longer thanks to the improved recovery offered by a more balanced diet.
As a dietary supplement we recommend consuming 15g split into two servings of 7.5g. Consume one serving 30 minutes before your workout and the second serving immediately post workout. Best consumed with your preferred amount of water or fruit juice.

This product is the most effective supplement I've EVER taken! This was also my very first purchase and I've been blown away with the results and how fast it works, without a doubt this is a supplement that every strength trainer or bodybuilder should have.Goes Well With:Water

After using BCAA products for a number of years, I started to research the science behind them. It became quickly apparent to me that I was missing out! BCAAS proven to stop muscle breakdown but it's the EAAS that have been proven to increase actual protein synthesis. This product needs to be mixed with something as the taste is very powerful personally 7.5g in pre-workout and 7.5g in post workout. Muscle recovery increased, less soreness and increased muscle pump.
This product has the perfect combination of EAAS and also contains a superb blend by default if BCAAS as well!!
You've been missing out if you haven't tried this. Goes Well With:Pre workout supplement - post workout shakes.

Higher doses (above 5g pre + 5g post workout) give me slight headache, sam as glutamine. So I'm taking it in smaller doses til my body adjusts to it.
So far it works. I'm getting a lot less muscle soreness after working out.
Mixes perfectly with everything.
Tastes like cacao but not so bitter. Really great when mixed with hemp protein. To my friend it tasates horrible so I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
Goes Well With:Hemp protein

This is a great supplement, one of the best and most effective I have had . It helps recovery. I have this straight after the gym in a sweet tasting flavoured protein and I can't honestly taste it at all now. For the people who are complaining about taste they are for sure either way too fussy and as such should not be taking stuff like this if they are so sensitive to taste! A lot better to take this than BCAAs. Mainly due to its better to get all the amino acids in slightly smaller dosage which are essential than just big doses of the 3 branch chain ones. I've had horrid tasting protein powders and would not hesitate to put people off buying them but this is honestly not at all bad when mixed with a decent tasting protein and should not be an issue in putting people off buying. My Protein are the only place I can find this supplement too in powder form which I prefer as I hate taking lots of tablets.

Ordered the 1kg. Which I haven't used previously, speedy delivery and able to track through yodel. The product is very good value, and the quality is great too. Mixes well with water or milk, but the unflavoured has a bitter taste but worth it for the results. Good for use especially pre and post workout. Have noticed some good results in gains since using this product.Goes Well With:Impact whey protein, instant oats, creatine monohydrate and dextrose.
Taste is bad but great product
- (19 / Dec / 2013)
Ok the taste of this is disgusting. I'm known for drinking cod liver oil straight from the bottle and having no complaints. The problem is that it is slightly metallic tasting and extremely bitter, the best thing to do is to mix it with some water and orange squash, sugar free and shake it up in a bottle. Leave it for a minute or two and then shake again and consume. Presto! I can't taste the amino Acids anymore and it's great as a PW shake. Goes Well With:Orange squash -sugar free and water

Essential Amino Acids is a great supplement! ingredient profile is unbeatable really for what you pay, for me me it's a staple wouldn't train without it
Goes Well With:intra workout, eaa, pepto pro,
post maltrodrexrin eaa.
Savoury not sweet
- (05 / Nov / 2013)
Most people complain about this due to it's taste. The problem is everyone seems to try and mix it with something sweet. What I do is make a kind of soup with it. I'm vegan and use pea protein and EAA, both of which don't taste great or mix well. I mix the protein and EAA with herbs, spices, vegetable gravy granules and yeast extract and pour in some boiling water. This makes a lovely spicy pea soup that tastes great and is jam packed with not only protein but lots of other healthy benefits from the herbs and spices. Goes Well With:Herbs, spices, pea protein, vegetable gravy and yeast extract

Stop marking this (and other) products on the taste and mixability. I mix this in my protein shake and it tastes fine. The effect is excellent, which is the reason I bought it. Well done MYPROTEIN.Goes Well With:Appreciation for it's effectiveness and hard work!
- (17 / Sep / 2013)
This Essential Amino Acids powder is disgusting. I am used to a pretty bland protein powder that I mix with a little orange and chop my breakfast fruit on. This is bitter and doesn't mix and makes my breakfast taste terrible.
- (03 / Sep / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids are a very good post workout with whey. I've noticed a decrease in recovery time.Goes Well With:whey, creatine

- (29 / Aug / 2013)
The Essential Amino Acids tastes awful. It mixes well with boiling water when you leave it. I personally use boiling water with squash and mix and stir it profusely then leave it for 5 minutes, mix again and hey presto you can drink it. After my workout, I just throw it in my water bottle, run the hot water, shake it and drink it straight down. It will never taste good as it is really bitter, but I have got very used to it now. I have recommended this and Impact Diet Whey to all my mates as the results have been awesome!Goes Well With:Hot water and dilute squash
- (26 / Aug / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids are excellent value for money, I bought this product and within a week I noticed the benefits. I bought unflavored and mixed it with Myprotein's BCAA, LGlutamine, creatine and their whey protein. Taste wise it's better with juice or applied to a protein. I would recommend using a mixer as it sticks to a spoon and clumps. Myprotein gave me the shaker free with my order.Goes Well With:Creatine, BCAA'S, L-glutamine, juice and whey protein
Hard to take
- (11 / Aug / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids are very hard to take with just milk or water. The best way I found so far is mixing it in to a zero fat shape delight yogurt. It's still not nice but you can eat it.
Bad Taste GREAT effects
- (09 / Aug / 2013)
Yes, Essential Amino Acids taste foul when just mixed with water. Yes, it takes a long time to dissolve (about 10 minutes). But taste can be offset with something else (I take a mouthful of orange juice after downing the aminos) and in the two weeks I've been taking this product, already I can feel that I've gained muscle and strength. I initially bought 250g to try, and just ordered another 500g.Goes Well With:Whey protein and creatine gluconate - all together it makes a turbo-boosted post-workout shake!
- (08 / Aug / 2013)
I mix this with my morning shake and also with my intra work out one.
It mixes very well and whilst it does need the additon of flavouring once again is well worth the effort.
I notice a fairly immediate increase in fullness whilst training and enjoy being safe in the knowlwedge that I'm well covered for all my aminos. I'll never prove it but my current contest prep would not be the same without this product and I've no doubt I am preserving prescious muscle whilst carbs are low.
I'd recommend 8g twice a day with food.
ThanksGoes Well With:Flav drops

Essential Amino Acids tastes awful no matter how hard you try and disguise it. Saying that, it's still an essential part of the diet.
- (20 / Jun / 2013)
Love the product, wish is a little bit cheaper to be able to buy a lot more.
Goes Well With:Anything
- (03 / Jun / 2013)
I bought this Essential Amino Acids to go with my Pulse V4 pre workout and then with my hurricane XS recovery shake. It's a great product and I can feel the difference, the only down side is it doesn't taste very good and can be hard to mix if using with pre or post workout shakes. Goes Well With:Pulse v4
- (21 / May / 2013)
Love the Essential Amino Acids. I have noticed lean definition and increased strength. It doesn't taste very well on its own, but you don't really taste it if mixed with a whey protein shake or juice. I would highly recommend this product.
Mix Badly but does the job
- (20 / May / 2013)
I mix my Essential Amino Acids my whey protein. It stays gritty and doesn't mix well, but it's better than just mixing with water as it just sits on the top. It tastes foul on its own also but with my protein shake I can't taste it!
However the benefits outweigh the downsides, it's only a small amount and if you really can't stand it you could always put it in a capsule.Goes Well With:Whey protein (just)
- (24 / Apr / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids tastes disgusting and the mixability is also very poor. This product will only mix with hot water or in a blender! Besides the bad taste and poor mixability the EAA's are very effective, having used them for a week I can feel the benefit; my muscles ache much less and recovery time is shortened.Goes Well With:Nothing!
I mix with total gainer in a blender and I find this works for me.
- (16 / Apr / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids are a quality product. They're ideal for post workout and upon waking.Goes Well With:bcaa, lglutamine
- (10 / Apr / 2013)
Essential Amino Acids are a quality product especially when combined with BCAA. I've been using it for years both off season and for contest prep.Goes Well With:BCAA
- (07 / Apr / 2013)
These Essential Amino Acids help with energy and recovery, before/during/after training 5g scoop straight in the mouth and wash it down with water or juice, no problem!
- (06 / Apr / 2013)
I bought these Essential Amino Acids on recommendation of a friend. It has a bit of everything that I need in it so I don't have to pay out for several other amino acid products. I consume it in my shakes before and after a training session, I also mix it with an early cup of coffee. I have been using it for just over a month and I have noticed a difference in myself and my training, this is a fantastic product if you are on a budget. I will be buying more of this in the future, many thanks My Protein Team.Goes Well With:CLA and Impact Whet
- (02 / Apr / 2013)
This is my first time trying the powdered form of Essential Amino Acids, it didn't taste too bad and mixed well. The results are showing well, what a great price as well.
I'm ordering more soon.
- (02 / Apr / 2013)
Overall, I would say Essential Amino Acids is a very good product, the taste isn't great but when mixed with other blends of protein it's not too bad. I made big gains and have increased my personal best, I believe that this contributed to it.
No pain No gain
- (21 / Mar / 2013)
I took the Essential Amino Acids because they are vegan, and I believed it would be a better taste than pea protein, but I was wrong. To mix them you need to warm the water like you make a tea, there is not another way, with cold water just forget it, you will shake until the end of times with no result.
As about the taste it is really horrible, it is just like waste with puke...
The only way that i can drink them is putting the juice of half lemon and 3 tea spoons of sugar, and I hate sugar but there is no other way, that way it is drinkable... The results in the work out are very good, its worth the trouble.
I can lift easier, with more aggression specially now that i am on a diet...
Overall, they do the job but there is something to be done about the taste Goes Well With:Lemon juice and sugar
- (14 / Mar / 2013)
The Essential Amino Acids was very had to mix at first. The flavour is absolutely disgusting. Compared to the others I've had, this is by far the worst!Goes Well With:Nothing
doe's the job
- (28 / Feb / 2013)
I've tried a few amino acids now and these do the job fine. Try mixing it 30 minutes before with dextrose powder and it does dissolve better. The earlier you mix it the better it is I find! As for taste, it's not the best!Goes Well With:dextrose and impact whey
Good once you know how!
- (17 / Feb / 2013)
Yes, Essential Amino Acids taste horrible. When I first mixed it (well, tried and failed) into a glass of water, I was horrified.
However, I now get a mug of hot water straight out of the kettle, leave it to cool for a minute or two, dissolve and stir in one scoop at a time, then add a fair bit of orange squash and a dash of sweetener. It dissolves well in the hot water and the squash masks the taste/smell pretty well. It still sends a shiver down my spine when downing it but it's perfectly drinkable. It goes well with: hot water and orange squash.
Where to start...
- (08 / Feb / 2013)
I bought this Essential Amino Acids anyway even after reading about the bad taste and mixability. I can honestly say that it is the worst tasting thing (well not the taste but the bitterness) I have had in a long time and it doesn't mix at all. First time use was in a protein shake and it destroyed the shake completely, it came back up and quick as it went down. I decided to try it with some orange juice (not squash) as that is quite bitter anyway and thought that might mask the horrible bitterness of this, and I have to say it did wonders. I didn't get any nasty taste whatsoever (was just like drinking the orange juice all on its own) however the mixability was still rubbish. I only use a tiny amount of orange juice and then a little bit more to swill the glass out and it all goes down like a treat. So for those who have problems with the taste just put it in orange juice and there will be no problems trust me! Plus now that I can drink it, it works pretty well, and I've noticed better gains and a slightly faster recovery time. I would give this 5 stars if only it didn't ruin the taste of a shake and the hassle of it not mixing so well. I can't complain, it's not supposed to taste like something you find in a fine restaurant, just get it down and it does the job!
Stop complaining about taste/mixability
- (01 / Feb / 2013)
If you're expecting the Essential Amino Acids to taste like anything half decent then I'd say turn away now. It does its job but you just have to mix it up a few hours before with some sugar free dilute! It's not pleasant but what were you expecting?

"Just wanted to review the taste thing everyone is on about. Yes, it is not nice at all. I tried it with cold water, and it did indeed smell awful, and would not mix in or dissolve, and it did taste pretty gross, but I have had worse! HOWEVER, guy at my gym said to put it into hot water, so I did. BIG improvement! Use hot water, and it does dissolve after a short time mixing/stiring. I then added some cold to make it a drinkable temperature, and noticed the smell was no way near as bad, and the taste was MUCH better, not really noticable at all if you just drink it all in one go. Not sure how effective it will prove to be as only been on it a week, but heard good things off others."
- (27 / Sep / 2012)
"I've been using this for about a month, and I've seen more gains this month than last month. Firstly, I'm just going to get tit out the way, The taste, the smell is awful. It's mixes horribly. However, you're a bodybuilder. Man up. I take mine with flavored squash, about 200ml of water and neck it, then I take my Pre-workout drink straight afterwards and the same post-workout. I can't add it to my other drinks because I enjoy them and these ruin it for me. It's fantastic though. I recommend it to everyone where I train and just tell them to man up. "
- (07 / Sep / 2012)
I don't get what the problem is with the taste. And who says it doesn't mix with water. It mixes instantly and with out added sucralose or aspartame you do your brain some good. I think that this is a great product.
- (03 / Aug / 2012)
"I don't know what all the moaning is about, I put this in my shaker with 500ml water and a large scoopful of Impact Whey, throw in some flavoured milk powder (chocolate or strawberry) and I cannot taste it, the results are definitley worth it! Worth the money"
- (29 / May / 2012)
"I was using a competitor product which is ranted about as being the bomb of recovery and protein synthesis in the natural body building world and it £50 a tub. It is about 1kg in weight but you only get 7,000 mg of EAA per scoop. With this stuff you get 15,000 mg of EAA and i would imaging in the right breakdown. You would be missing out not to buy this and assist your body in promoting in the recovery and anti catabolic / anobolic environmet you need without all the effort it takes to breakdown whey into EAA. You would need over 6 servings of whey to 1 serving of this stuff to release the same amount of EAA into your blood. This shit works. Best way to take it is in a my protein mixer with the metal mixing balls in shake well drink down then add somemore water so not to waste the dreggs and drink the rest. Then get on with it."
- (24 / May / 2012)
"Very disappointed with this product. Like many, I opt to supplement with free form BCAA and EAA products. Bad taste, unfortunately comes with this territory, however this product literally will not mix or dissolve in water and therefore its awful tastw cannot be disguised - as whatever you attempt to mix with, you are still left with a layer of gritty foam on top. This product is therefore let down by this and makes me wonder how well it is absorbed. Bring back the Ajinmoto BCAA powder or bring this up to the same standard Myprotein. "
- (09 / May / 2012)
"CEE is like melted chocolate compared to this. doesn't mix in anything. i've tried the spoonful in mouth washing down method but the quantity thats needed makes it pointless and horrible. this has been the defining reason i'll be getting my protein solely from food now. i'll try to finish the bag but my taste buds will never be the same, or my gag reflex for that matter."
- (22 / Apr / 2012)
"dam..this is the worst thing i have ever tasted. i dont care how effective it is, i just cant knock this one back. I bought it recently, tried it twice once with a shake and once in water and nearly yacked up trying to drink it both times. the possible little gains from this product are not worth the torment of the dreadful taste. "
- (17 / Apr / 2012)
"Ok Masochists, the taste is bad. Normally I don't take any notice of peoples moans about taste, but I agree this time, it's not good. Don't mix in a cup/glass with water, either it don't mix or ends up around glass/cup. Solution: Flav Drops (strawberry is ok) Put EAA's straight into mough via a scoop. Swill/drink and knock back with some Flav Drops (3) in water. Works well for me, and zero kcals for those like me on a cutting phase."
- (20 / Mar / 2012)
"I've only been using this a couple of weeks now and i have to agree with everyone that this is probably the worst tasting suppliment i have tried. I have tried it in my protein shake, with apple juice, in diluting juice and straight in the mouth on a desert spoon washed down with apple juice and i have to say the least traumatic by far is straight in the mouth and washed down with apple juice...Luckily i never bought it for its taste factor, i bought it to help me gain maximum results in the gym. like the name says their essential for optimum muscle growth, its a no brainer really reguardless of taste!"
- (21 / Feb / 2012)
"Just recieved this product and was dreading the tasted due to the comments however I opened the bag and there was very little smell, tried a spoonful direct onto tongue and swallowed with water, very little taste, not sure what the big fuss is about at all. Cant comment on effectiveness yet but wanted give my opinion on the taste"
- (25 / Jan / 2012)
"I use EAA ,and CEE together, and both taste awful, but I can make the taste just right.Take Blackcurrant high juice(50ml),EEA(8g), CEE(3g),sweetener powder(half MP l.scoop),and mix them in a shaker.Use mint mouthwash(Don't swallow) before you drink this cocktail, and it will taste fine like this. "
- (03 / Jan / 2012)
This is truly minging but mixed with my protein shake it’s not too bad. I also mix it with natural yogurt as it disguises the taste sufficiently.
- (03 / Jan / 2012)
"THE SECRET!!! Add 50 ml of blackcurrant squash, 50 ml of water and 7.5 g of EEA's.Mix them in a shaker.Use mouth wash before you drink it!"
- (07 / Dec / 2011)
"I can't write about the effectiveness.I just had twice.I could mix it properly just with an electric mixer.I mixed it with MP Chocolate Flavoured Impact Blend and milk, but it didn't help.I read reviews about the awful taste, but I thought it can't be worst than the creatine. Then I realised it's worse.I hope it's worth drinking it.I give it a chance.I have 500g of this product, and I will take all somehow, but please someone give me advice how it taste nicer.I won't put sugar in!"
- (02 / Dec / 2011)
absolutley amazing product. All I do is wrap it in a spinach leaf (or you could wrap it in rolling paper) and swallow it straight away. This way it doesnt even touch your tongue.
