Overview

Caffeine is an alkaloid that acts as a stimulant to the Central Nervous System (CNS). It is also a mild diuretic and can increase the body's metabolism. It can be found in varying quantities in the beans, leaves and fruits of over 60 different plants with the most common sources being the coffee plant bean and the leaf of the tea bush. Caffeine is widely recognised as being the most popular drug on the planet.

Caffeine is a powerful stimulant which can increase mental alertness and improve physical energy levels. It can help decrease physical fatigue, improve clarity of thought, increase focus and physical coordination and reduce the sensation of being tired, making it particularly effective for sports such as weight training. Moderate use seems to be desirable by both men and women as excessive use can sometimes produce undesirable effects.

Caffeine is a cheap and convenient way of helping to restore mental alertness or energy when experiencing tiredness or drowsiness.

Warning: Please be careful when dosing Caffeine as it is a potent powder and can cause bad side-effects when taken well above the recommended amount. It is recommended not to consume more than 200mg (approx. 1/16th of a teaspoon but we recommend using digital scales) in one serving.

After reading the reviews on the near death experiences I was very curious in the potency of this product. Well it's not all that. It does give you more energy but its quite mild not a surging rush and I use about 3 times the recommended amount in order to feel any effect. Can probably go higher but is concerned on the effects such a high dose might have on my overall health, then again I am quite tolerant to these things so try a small amount first. To put it in prospective I get the a similar effect having a bubble espresso. Good stuff though would probably use it for a while to see what effect it will have over time. Taste - well it is what it is have it with a small mount of water neck it and have a orange or apple straight after, not that bad grow a pare!!

It works. 200mg is more than what you would get in a cup of coffee or red bull. I have made the mistake of taking 2g of caffeine thinking it was some other supplement so can relate with another reviewer, nothing i can't laugh at now though. From personal experience i can't fault it and stacked with what i recommended will make you want to tear the weights up or collapse in a coma. What i have noticed although the caffeine seems to make me nice and limber without needing a warm up it eventually makes you feel more stiff the more you use it. Ruins your digestion, as it takes several hours to want to eat anything and more anxious and impatient. There is an upper limit to how much caffeine you can take before you don't get any effects off this product so even if you slowly built up to 800mg of caffeine (which would probably ruin you if you have never tried this before) you wont feel as good as if you just took a couple weeks break and started from 200-400mg again. Maybe if MP put what 200mg of caffeine is equivalent in cups of coffee to help newbies and put the milligram measure in a capital MG would help. Even a diagram of what 200mg looks like on a spoon...

This is very strong! I accidently had 2 teaspoons of the stuff before realising I should of had 1/16th. I was shaking like hell, came out in blotches and pretty much lay away feeling anxious and on edge for the next 10 hours. My own fault! It definately works though I will be more careful on my next dosage!

Take note of the dosage instructions, very very strong, first time I took this product I was up all night shaking, learnt from my mistake. Excellent product, used it while training for a marathon, gave me that extra boost...plus more

I would like to echo the sentiments of Sean Wilkes. I few months ago I made exactly the same mistake. Its very easily done. This product should come with an unmissable BEWARE or CAUTION sign. I too ended up in hospital needing a Cardiogram having suffered from Tachycardia and Caffeine poisoning. My consultant said that my 25 years of regular intense exercise probably saved my life. A heart rate of 180+ for a 2.5 hour period left me in quite a bad way and would almost certainly have brought on a cardiac arrest or at least an MI. 5 days later when I was finally able to get out of bed I binned the entire sack and will not be buying it again. Myprotein products are brilliant and the service is equally good BUT someone will end up dead if this product continues to sell in its current form.!!!

I just have to add that although this product is exactly what it says it is (a decent stimulant without being too speedy) that the taste isn't what I would describe as moderatley bad, it is seriously bad, like chewing a paracetamol bad. Not 3*, 1* for sure. I do not mind 99% of stuff, I actually enjoy whey protein and I can hardly even taste creatine, I've ingested ... "other" stimulants which may taste bad but I can tollerate them. Not this - I mixed it into a mocha and ruined it, I tried to drink it in a normal size cup of water... bad idea. Get this down you as fast as you possibly can and have a water to hand to rinse it down - I'll be buying the capsules next time, failing that I'd have to sit making bombs with rizla, but for now I'm going to finish off this pouch by mixing it into a small amount of water then immediately chasing it with clean water. But to actually review the product... does what it is supposed to, and found it a great help on days when I'm going for a 1-3RM max especially, though only used the product for 2 weeks so need to give it more time to decide if it will be a permanent addition.

BE VERY CAREFUL!!! From what I can tell, the packaging of practically all supplement powders from myprotein.co.uk are a near exact design and the same colour (if not all). The powders inside also appear to be white in most cases, as is the case with this caffeine supplement. If you decide to buy this (it certainly does exactly what is says it will) I would strongly advise you not to keep it in the same location as any other supplements you might be taking in powdered form! Some research I found: "Larger doses of caffeine, especially when given to non-users, can produce headache, jitteriness, abnormally rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), convulsions, and even delirium. The lowest known dose fatal to an adult has been 3,200 mg - administered intravenously by accident. The fatal oral dose is in excess of 5,000 mg - the equivalent of 40 strong cups of coffee taken in a very short space of time." Last week, I very nearly died after mistakenly mixing in about 12 grams of caffeine (about 12000 mg's) by mistake with my 5g's of creatine - I had intended to take 12g's amino acids with the creatine. Simply put, the caffeine content was the equivalent of downing about 60 straight cans of red bull all at once, and along with a powerful transporter of sorts in creatine monohydrate. As a result, according to the doctors that treated me: - I narrowly avoided death - I narrowly avoided extreme damage to my heart - I narrowly avoided brain damage - I narrowly avoided heavy kidney damage - The lining in my stomach has been destroyed (but will repair itself in time) - I have suffered significant muscle breakdown all over my body as a result of a massively elevated cardiac enzyme (the fight or flight response) which started to breakdown my muscle tissue for fuel as it was t

i add this to a pre workout shake, with Raspberry Ketones Powder, BCAA powder, creatine mono-hydrate powder, greentea extract powder,Acetyl L Carnitine and 1/4 vitamin b6 tablet (bought from ebay thinking it was powder, 1000mg tablet so too much for my needs) with water. really boosts met rate . this powder and indeed mix is very powerful be very very careful with dosages always follow advice on packaging from this site, more so with this product than others. Do not take a good few hours before you expect to get to sleep, cause that just is not going to happen. Raspberry Ketones may give you a nice tasting little burp now and then, at least you will know they are doing their job, lol. you may get a little dizzy if so use a little less till you get used to this combo, you will burn fat and get clean gains big time tho. bhmoomoo

VERY STRONG!! As other people have said take note of the measures and warnings, i only took a small sprinkle in with a protien shake, felt sick as a dog for the whole evening, couldnt eat and got practically no sleep despite trying HOURS later, felt rough the next day also, i think the tablets would be better as they are a measured dose, either that or literally take a tiny pinch, the small 100g bag should last months! good product but be careful

not much, very potent bitter taste
  • Mix correctly. (21/01/2010)
  • Review:
I've tried caffeine powder in a few different mixers water, milk, juices etc. I found that the taste like alot of the reviews say is terrible, however it's an effective and cheap alternative (to caffeine tablets) when mixed with Orange Juice. When mixed with orange juice it doesnt leave a bitter after taste which I found left a sick feeling when drank with milk and water. An effective product when used with OJ.

This product is very good but please follow the advice MP give about dosing correctly. And take into account any caffeine that may already be in your body, I like to start a work out by using an energy drink to give me focus. But bare in mind some energy drinks are caffeine based. If you do the same ADJUST THE DOSE ACCORDINGLY. Personally I would advise starting on a lower dose and working upward if you want or need to. I am sure an OD on this stuff could proof fatal, and for a couple of hours I thought it was going to be. I admittingly through my own stupidity did not have a pleasant experience. I would like to see a larger warning on the packaging. Even though MP do go to some lengh to explain it on the website. There is an old and dated phylosophy in training to take a bit more than you need of some supplements. But please don't mess with this stuff. And if you have any kind of health condition speacially heart related I would pass this by. Or certainly consult your Doctor first. Good stuff but be sensible.
  • does NOT mix (25/11/2009)

seriously does not mix with water or drinks, if you mix it with food you'll end up with a clumpy bitter tasting dinner. although the effects ARE good, i would at least like a version that you can mix with drinks and food or even snort.
