Overview

Brown Rice Protein is the ideal protein choice for anyone looking to avoid dairy and soy protein sources. Brown Rice Protein is the concentrated fraction of the whole rice grain which is produced through a wet milling and all natural proprietary process. It is produced by various steps of fermentation, filtration processing and enzymatic processing to remove the protein and fiber from whole grain brown rice. The basis for this process is sprouted whole grain brown rice which is the raw material for production.

Brown Rice Protein uses non-GMO sprouted brown rice and has an amino acid profile closest to mother's milk. It is hypo-allergenic and completely dairy free making it the perfect choice for vegans and anyone looking to avoid specific allergens such as wheat, gluten, eggs, dairy and soy.

The fantastic amino acid profile of Brown Rice Protein provides a suitable alternative to Whey and Soy protein as it still provides the amino acids required by your body to build and repair lean tissue. With over 24g of protein per 30g serving Brown Rice Protein is a great source of protein with a healthy fibre content and minimal fat and cholesterol.

The amino acid profile can be found at the bottom of the page under 'Certificates'.

I can't score effectiveness as I've just started using it and for mixing I use a blender so there's zero problems. I think they must have changed the way its made since one or two reviewers said it tasted bad because this product has virtually no taste at all, its completely plain . That's not a bad thing by the way, its a lot better than tasting bad. Note also its half the calories of Total Protein if you're trying to cut down on. Overall I'm impressed and recommend it.

Was excited when this came back into stock after about 5 or 6 months out of stock. I have been forced to rotate my proteins due to food sensitivities and find this one the easiest to digest (no bloating) than the others (hemp, pea and goat). But its not my favourite taste-wise, it tastes like plain flour - I was expecting a nuttier rice flavour, than what it offers. Doesn't put me off though - the digestive and protein benefits definitely outweigh any downsides to the flavour. I'll just have to be a bit more adventurous with what I mix it with (unfortunately can't eat fruit!) I would say if you have trouble digesting the other vegan proteins - try this one.

When I read some of the other reviews here I was worried that the flavour would be bad. I was tentative the first time I used it and decided to mix it with just water so that I would get nothing but the full flavour. To my utter surprise, it tasted fine. The flavour isn't strong enough to have a reaction to. Maybe MyProtein have recently changed this product or some people are just a bit girly and every food stuff that passes their precious lips needs to be a taste sensation. Either way, I love this stuff and have already recommended it to some of my personal training clients.

Biggest mistake I made was buying this over standard whey protein. Its utterly utterly disgusting, and has an overpowering taste which is very hard to mask. Also it doesn't mix well at all, leaving you feeling like you are drinking sand. Horrendous.

When I turned Vegan, my first concern was protein. Of course all new Vegan/Vegetarian first look to Soya. Obviously after some research, and the fact that soya made me stupidly bloated, the best way of acheiving this was to mix pea, hemp and brown rice protein. This way you actually getting a much better profile of amino acids than you would if taking Whey. The profile is also higher than lean beef protein. I have done the Math. I go longer working out due the fact that my diet is more alkaline too.

This protein is vile. It doesn't mix well (needs a lot of shaking) and foams quite a bit with milk. This unfortuantely is not the worst part. The taste and smell are disgusting. I have to hold my breath when I drink it and try to just gulp it down without tasting it. Do not believe those five star fake reviews, this stuff tastes horrid. Sure it is a good protein if you just look at the nutritional information and it has no added artificial anythings, but be warned.

'm 80% vegan and this organic brown rice protein is the perfect non-diary supplement. I performed very well on this better than whey and I have more oxygen capacity due to the fact that it is more alkaline than acid. The more alkaline your body is the more oxygen you can use. A suggestion to make a delicious protein shake after a workout is to mix 2 cups of coconut milk, 1 large chopped pear and 2 tbsp of brown rice protein (24gm of protein). Blend well and enjoy.

I really like this stuff, there are several people complaining about it being 'gritty' however this is a mild short lasting effect and nowhere near as unpleasant as the gloopy, bulking effects of some powders. The taste is pleasant and goes well with a range of mixers, shakes up really well in a smoothie, ribena or apple juice and is excellent with oats. No obvious problems with digestion and definitely less offensive than other protein powders. Good results too, I'm cutting and it seems to support this well.

Brown rice protein is FANTASTIC overall (except one little gripe - read on), especially for people coming from the RAW food movement or VEGAN movement who also want to benefit from weight training and all its associated benefits. Big plus is that it doesn't contain animal products (see books on "China Study", "RAW for 30 days" etc - I'm no hippie tree-hugger but I try to phase a high animal protein diets with raw vegan diets throughout the year) and its amino acid profile is very good do you can easily integrate it into a VEGAN or RAW bulking/cutting program. Only gripe is the mixability/texture. If just mixed by hand with water it has the consistency/texture of coarse baby powder and saw dust which if you drink it gets stuck at the back of your throat. If you use milk to mix it then obviously you're going to get a better mix. Cutting it half/half with commercial protein powders does help but again, unmistakable. Perhaps using a blender would give better results but, until then it gets 4 out 5 because of the mixability/texture issue, otherwise great product. Oh and it agrees wholeheartedly with my intestines, no problem there.

The taste is fine and I look forward to the rice protein shake... I use skimmed milk. Everyone is different but I like the taste and I do not find it gritty. I have felt better since drinking it and feel stronger when exercising. I am a vegetarian and my previous protein daily intake was minimal. Also I have actively lost weight recently and I decided on a protein supplement because I do not want my muscle protein to be depleted and hopefully this will retain my muscle tone and mass.

I found this rice protein after seeing a few reviews on body-building sites and I can say I am fairly impressed! As a vegan moving on from pea protein I knew nothing could taste worse. I loved the taste of hemp protein but the cost and protein content just wasn't good enough. The rice is somewhere inbetween. Its nice enough to be fine with just milk, with a sort of nutty flavour, but it isn't delicious. Even though everyone says its gritty I still wasn't prepared for it, though if it puts you off completely then you probably are a giant wuss. I blend mine with whatever plant-based milk I have at the time, oats, some omega oils, shelled hemp and a bit of cocoa and it comes out lovely. I definitely feel like my recovery time has improved so I will be sticking with this product for the time being!

Really glad to have found somewhere that does rice protein along with pea protein (as the mix of both is a great combination to get all the things you need). It's quite gritty and on it's own it's not a great taste but certainly not the worst I've ever had. I mix mine with 10 cal chicken soups or low fat cup-a-soups and it tastes really good!

I'm staggered that this product has garnered an average of four out of five stars. It tastes completely and utterly revolting, reminiscent of drinking mud or sand. I made the mistake of buying a 10kg sack of this stuff; being the spendthrift that I am, I resolved to using it all, even though it made me want to be gag every time I drank it. Turns into a gloopy, glue-like substance when mixed with milk. The only feasible way of drinking it is to mix with water. Hey presto - you have your own mud drink. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I have tried this for a few months now. I initially had a tub of "SunWarrior" for my first experiment with Rice based protein, and although that has a smoother texture, I must say the MP Rice protein taste better (Despite the slightly sandy mix) and doesn't froth up horribly....It is also MUCH better value for money. I only ever mix with water and have experienced no digestion issues with it...Once you get over the initial gritty shock factor you'll find it's great stuff, try it out.

I have just bought this as an alternative to soy / dairy based powders as I am lactose intolerant and didn't like the idea of the oestrogen stigma attached to soy. I will let you know how well it works in a later comment, but to mask the taste I added drinking chocolate and peppermint extract, it masks the foulness nicely and makes for a really nice shake. you even forgive the grittyness!

I have been using this product for about 4-5 months now and i am a pure vegetarian who has been using a variety of different protein sources for years. I must say that rice protein is the least bloating post use that i have ever encountered, it never makes u feel full or uncomfortable. Even that whey protein sense of "fullness" is not present. In regards to performance i have switched from a majority whey supplementation to a combination of whey soya and brown rice protein. I can definitely vouch for the fact that there has been no decline in strength etc its just a solid protein product.\nWith regards to taste it is stomachable on its own but mix it with any juice ( i use cold orange) and yes its gritty and a bit earth like but far from undrinkable.\n Variety is the name of the game and this provides another great alternative. A thoroughly recommended product

OK, first up, the stats are fantastic and credit should go to MyProtein for creating a product like this for a competitive price. However, it tastes absolutely dis-gus-ting!! It doesn't repeat on me like some whey proteins do, good job cos if it did I'd spew! The consistency is awful (gritty) and if you let it sit for more than 1 second it separates and is even harder to drink. It literally behaves and tastes like dirt and water. 'Nuff said. I've noticed that some other people are using cinnamon to flavour it, I'll give that a go. Not sure I'd buy it again unless it was pre-flavoured. Good idea though..!

I actually think this tastes quite nice by itself with just water and some electrolyte powder, but even better mixed with tomato juice. I do prefer savory to sweet though. I've found it to be easy on the stomach, but a little bit of a pain to mix as it would rather float than dissolve... it does mix in eventually though. Overall it's a great alternative to dairy.\n

It has a gritty texture and the taste is nothing to write home about. But taste is not the reason why we take protein shakes. Does it do the job? Yes! Does it keep you feeling full better than whey? Yes. Add cinnamon and you it tastes ok plus the cinammon regulates the blood sugar levels and the brown rice is low GI.

Also, i got no digestive problems like i sometimes get with dairy based protiens. On top of that, its Organic and Raw Sprouted, and its such a good price. Result! Mixed with the Organic sprouted Hemp protein MP sell, you would have a 'superfood' protein shake.

I've been training a long time using whey based proteins and although I had no problems with digestion I wanted to try an alternative after I found out what whey really is! \nUsing the brown rice protein and in combination with a good training regime, I soon saw results (much quicker than when I use to have whey products). I feel that I am having something more substantial as a drink, provides slow energy release and I feel I can push myself harder in the gym. Be warned tho: the taste and texture is not great. It tastes very earthy - I mix mine with some ovaltine, or in a fruit smoothie (that makes it a bit better and I've got some of the vanilla flavoring to try out different combinations). However, the worst part is the texture, very grainy, feels like sand in the mouth and you kind of need to have a drink or rinse after you have it. It mixes easily but if you don't have the whole lot quickly you will soon get residue on the bottom of your mixing bottle which is not great. Overall tho, it is worth it as it is natural and gives really good results! Goodbye to whey for me!

I enjoy doing my weights but was unable to back my diet up with Whey protein. It gives me a bad stomach and hang over type feeling. I tried soy protein but didn’t like the after taste and read mixed reviews on different sites about its effectiveness. I called my protein and was advised to try brown rice protein. I am very happy with it, I like the smell and mix it with vanilla flavouring and it goes down a treat. It’s much cheaper than Whey protein so I can consume it three times a day. Well worth trying.

As I have been switching to vegetarian and vegan diet and supplements where ever possible. I had been using myprotein’s Unflavoured Impact Whey protein which, I must say, is a faultless product. I expected this protein powder to behave in a similar ‘whey’ :-D\n\nUnfortunately it doesn’t. Unlike the unflavoured whey equivalent, this stuff tastes foul and smells awful. As a few other reviewers have found it can’t be mixed with just water like the whey because it doesn’t actually dissolve - what you get is a ‘suspension’ of a very, very fine gritty powder. \n\nThis gritty texture is impossible to mask and can be felt as it goes down your throat. You can mask the taste and smell somewhat with a lot of flavouring (I use 10 drops of myprotein’s FlavDrops Strawberry flavouring). But I still have to brace myself for a pretty unpleasant experience when drinking it.\n\nWith the whey product I could add up to 4 scoops at a time and get a creamy drinkable shake, but anything over 2 scoops in a large amount of soy milk is undrinkable no matter how much I try to mask the smell and taste.\n\nI’ll keep experimenting to see if I can make it more palatable because the nutritional profile is as good as many whey products.

Just puchased a large quantity of brown rice protein. Has a similar amino acid profile to standard whey protein and since it is considerably cheaper it represents a large cost saving. However the drawback is the taste. It does not mix that well and needs drinking quickly to prevent spitting it back out! Recommend drinking with maltodextrin which slightly masks the flavour. Currently unsure whether the price is worth it for the taste. Saying that when are protein drinks meant for enjoyment...?!

Hiya, just wanted to say I'm really happy with this product, have had it for a week now and everytime I like it more. I add it to my other protein powders and when dieting it seems to keep my hunger away for a longer period than when I drink other shakes alone. \n\nI've also used it to make eggwhite pancakes, just 5 or 6 eggwhites, some Brown Rice Protein Powder and some splenda. I also find that it mixes pretty well with eggwhites. The taste is nice, it's almost like you'r having sesame milk. \n\nTo me it's 5 star, even though it doesn't mix with water easily, once used in combination with other things it's pretty good. It's a good complementry protein. \n\nI only have a question to MP, is it OK to use this Brown Rice Protein Powder in cooking, in terms of any damage that it might cause to it nutrients and absorbtion, or can I continue to make my pancakes with them? I'm also thinking of experimenting by adding it to soups, just wanna make sure it's OK?

Hello All,\n\nTaste: 4.5* - I like the taste, as has been said before it has a very 'nutty' quality to it. It masks the taste of anything that is with it. Had it in with egg white powder and couldn't taste anything but the brown rice.\n\nMixability: 3* - This is where it looses for me. I find the stuff a bit harder to mix than some of the other proteins. Not to say it is that difficult, you just have to watch it frothing up quite a bit. I quite like it's taste although I think one could have too much, but then I also like the unflavoured Soya protein and I've never been keen on the taste of dairy.

It's a light powder which floats on the air. At the moment I only have about 20g per dose and I mix it in a beaker with warm water and stir it with a spoon and it mixes easily enough to not need the electric hand held blender. It settles out in the beaker after a minute or so and needs a swill or re-stir. I either just glug it down or pour in my porridge.

It's a lot heavier than whey and so a scoop holds rather a lot more protein for it's size. I was having too much initially when I swapped over from Whey which I did as it's not organic (is it?) and I wanted to avoid the undesirable stuff that non- organic farmers add to the cows and their feed.

I actually feel like this stuff might be helping me grow more than soya protein ever has. In terms of taste, it's definitely less bareable than soya powder, but taste is of little importance to me. I've always found ways of masking the flavour and texture and I'll be doing the same for this.

I tried this stuff out because it's nice and cheap, and also i am keen to find a non-dairy protein other than soya.\r\nIt's absolutely foul. Tastes like i imagine a powdered mummy would. Best left undisturbed beneath a large pyramid, in my opinion.

And I thought pea protein tasted bad. This is definitely an acquired taste, yuk!

Took a little time to get used to (does taste like dust!) but quickly grew on me - mixed with chocolate flavouring it's really quite delicious. Currently mixing in a 50/50 blend with sempro soya protein. Highly recommended. Much nicer than pea protein, too. Bought 2kg to try - now wishing I'd bought in bulk.

Truly vile, hideous stuff that has a flavour that's impossible to mask and a texture akin to compacted hoover dust.\r\nBut out of the various vegan/eco-friendly options it's the one to go for if you either can't afford hemp protein or are concerned about the possible oestrogenic effects of soya/pea protein.\r\n
