Micellar Casein is a, slow release protein derived from milk. It's absorbed slowly by the stomach allowing a tapered supply of amino acids to the muscle over a prolonged period of time. This makes Micellar Casein the ideal protein supplement for between meals and before bed. During sleep, the body is normally starved of nutrients as it is impractical to consume food and therefore, a slow release protein can be ideal for recovery throughout the night.
This protein source has a complete amino acid profile and contains branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). Micellar Casein has 24g of protein per serving which will contribute to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
Micellar Casein is ideal for anyone engaged in a long term physical training plan where getting the right dietary balance is absolutely essential. It's also an excellent supplement to help increase daily protein intake. As a dietary supplement we recommend consuming before bed or between meals, 2-3 times per day.
Add 200-300ml of water or milk into our shaker (the less liquid the thicker the shake will be). Then add 30g, shake and consume. Use just before bedtime for optimum results, but can also be taken between meals or 2-3 times a day.
Note: We advise that all servings are measured using an accurate set of scales. While we make every attempt to provide an accurate equivalent measure using our Myprotein scoops, these are only approximate and are not a substitute for using a standardised measuring device.
Do not exceed the stated recommended daily dose. This product is a food supplement and therefore should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store in a cool dry place, out of the reach of young children.

This product works effectively in regards to what you want a casein shake to do, it mixes ok, not as good as Optimum Nutrition's one, and it tastes ok as a shake, again not as good as Optimum Nutrition either, which in my opinion is the best one you can buy, this product however is competitively priced which is why i opted to try it out, you get 700g more with MP for the same price as ON, in this regard though i do think you get what you pay for as ON is a better quality product, this however is a workable low budget option.Goes Well With:oats, yoghurt, home baking recipes just not a good shake.
I have no special qualms or advantages to this product. I've received it properly packed, and tried out a bit of casein in yogurt. I had no chalky feelings or problems in mixability like others (not that I care much about mixing). As for taste, I don't care about taste, I order my stuff unflavoured whenever I can, so no negative or positive points on that. As for effectiveness, It's most useful long hours post workout or taking it at night. You can consume it in the evening to safeguard your muscles when you're doing IF (14-16 hours).
I love to eat my protein sources and have been making casein cookie dough with the unflavoured product and flavdrops, it's delicious and a great way to get your protein in and a dessert that requires no cooking or time. Recipe below if you want to try it, you won't be disappointed: 50g unflavoured casein 15g nut butter of choice 15g cookie butter (if I don't have any I double up the nut butter) 50ml almond milk MP Flavdrops (vanilla) add to taste Add a little of the almond milk at a time as you want the consistency to be that of cookie dough and mix it thoroughly . If I have some fats and carbs left for the day il throw in some chocolate chips. If you like you like it thicker try chilling in the fridge for a while. Goes Well With:See recipe!!!
I have been using Myprotein whey supplements for a few years now (ISO PRO 97 & Impact whey) and have found both to be effective e.g. they mix well, taste just fine and have proven to be an effective supplement. Up until 8 months ago I would take one of the above immediately after training to aid recovery and assist development of muscle tissue after training, however after reading articles on the best time of day and type of supplements to take I started taking a whey supplement prior to training. As I train first thing in the morning I find this convenient and have definitely noticed improvements in training performance and overall gains in muscle development. I admit the gains are not ground braking, but they exist and are noticeable. So I got to thinking and decided I would start experimenting by taking a Casen protein in the evening, and monitor the results and effects. First off this has certainly helped me resisting from snacking on unhealthy items such as biscuits and cakes etc in the evening, as I eat quite clean during the day and do get the cravings for a sweet snack in the evenings when I know the wife has them hidden in the kitchen cupboard. Secondly I have definitely noticed a difference in the recovery from hard sessions, previously I would be sore (DOMS) for a few days after a particularly tough workout, whereas now I wouldn’t say I was as fresh as a daisy the morning after, however I am able to commit to another good session the following day. OK, now the taste test, I choose chocolate, the taste is fine however does leave a little powdery after tang, but I don’t find this to bad at all as I am usually brushing my teeth and having a glass of water soon afterwards before hitting the sack. The powder mixes fine (I use skimmed milk) and as long as you use a shaker and spend 20 seconds of vigorous agitation leaves no lumps or residue in the shaker. Overall a good supplement that is steadily helping me reach my goals without braking the bank or making me chug down foul tasting concoctions that make me wince and give nightmares. Goes Well With:Hard training and clean diet
I give this product 5/5 on everything. Firstly, it works. I noticed muscle gain and fat loss since I started using it daily before sleep. I wake up feeling really well even after a hard workout the day before. Secondly it mixes really well with milk and tastes good (I use unflavoured). If you have problems with lumps in your shake try this: using a fork mix the powder with a small amount of milk first to create a thick batter. Once you got that smooth, add more milk and keep stirring. Add some flavoured yogurt or milk if you like. Hope this helpsGoes Well With:Whey protein Magnesium and zinc
After doing a lot of research into this product and protein in general, I read an article saying to mix Casein with Whey post workout for maximum benefits. I swear by it now. You get the initial protein hit from the Whey and then this product slowly drip feeds your muscles for up to 8 hours after your workout ensuring you get the most from your workout both with size and strength. When mixing it does tend to froth up a bit but if you leave it to settle for a few minutes, it's fine. Really helps to stop the DOMS (Delayed onset of muscle soreness) meaning you can train again sooner.Goes Well With:Impact Whey and BCAA powder
Bought a 1kg bag of vanilla after reading everyone else's reviews and I'm glad I did as the usual next day aches/stiffness has all but gone since taking this before bed. Firstly, don't expect this to be as smooth/easy to drink as Impact Whey. On my first mix I followed the packet instructions but found it to be quite thick, with a lot of froth and with an incredible chalky after taste / texture which I ended up pouring away and feeling quite disappointed with it. After reading some reviews about this protein source on other forums/websites this wasn't anything uncommon and I noticed a lot of comments about how Myprotein's is the best on the market so stuck with it. Either use a blender or a hand whisk and jug and the mix is much easier to drink and tastes a lot nicer. There's still a slight chalky texture but you quickly get past this. I'm also using more water (roughly 400ml).
Wonderfully priced casein that mixes well. The price beats my previous US supplier hands down in terms of shipping and product cost. The product itself has been really effective in recovery and muscle growth and i am speaking as a heavy user, around 3-4 scoops of casein per day. I have tried all kinds of brand including the Tub ones from big companies in the US but they don't compare in digestibility an effectiveness. There are 3 natural flavors that i have downed 5kg of each flavour so far. I'll list them briefly regarding taste and mix-ability. Vanilla- Mixes really well with water, almost no foam and a pleasant smell Banana-Mixes well with water, however it foams up quite abit and can be a little hard to drink at the end. Pleasant smell too. Chocolate- mixes well with water, no foam and has a smell that is not so pleasant. Taste wise for these 3 flavours are excellent. For the reasons above i give 4 stars. MP needs to provide an all natural flavour and sweetening using stevia to sweetened to earn the last star. It's the way to go forward, MP please do it like the impact whey series. If you find this helpful like this review and bump it to the top so that others will be able to read it .:)Goes Well With:water and whey
Tastes really good but it's a mess to use, like powdered snow seems to go everywhere don't wear black tee when mixing. Would recommend getting a tub to put it in as well. Chalky mix but it's favour is really good and for a finish end up eating the foam. Stuffed after it so works well. Good product got banana favour tastes good. Goes Well With:Water and pour into tub to avoid consent spilling/powder everywhere
Texture is awful.. leaves a weird chalky feeling in your mouth. And when you mix it, it foams up really bad. i had banana, tastes alright but i wouldnt choose it again. Tried strawberry before and that also had the bad texture. Love the impact whey and loads of the other MP products, just not this casein.
I fancied increasing my daily protein intake with a slow-release drink to consume before bed, allowing a drip-feed into my system while I slept overnight. After a bit of online research, this seemed like a suitable product, and I placed an order for the banana flavour, as I'm currently using the Optimum Nutrition milk chocolate for my pre- and post-workout shake, and too much chocolate can be a flavour contrast and a bit of an overload for your taste buds. Firstly - be warned! This mixture is EXCEPTIONALLY light... It's almost like talcum powder. It's bright white, and no matter how gently you open the bag, a cloud of the stuff *always* puffs out and settles. If you're wearing black clothes, they'll need to go in the wash to get the stuff out, as it doesn't just brush off. My work uniform is black, so I always make sure I'm changed for bed before preparing the shake. The flavour is great - again, mildly synthetic, but what the heck do you expect? It tastes like banana, and I'm quite happy with that. I use a cheap smoothie maker to mix it up, and having read other reviews, I concur that the texture of the drink is strange - although it's a liquid, it has quite a "chalky" undertone. However, it mixes well, it tastes good, and it does exactly what it says. If you're picky about flavours or textures, then you probably shouldn't be shopping for protein-based products. MP do an excellent job of producing fine products, and ultimately, this is no different. Overall, I'd recommend this product for the price and service you get from My Protein. The only downside is the actual powder being so light - I would much rather have it supplied in a tub than a bag, as that would reduce the amount that's carried in the air.Goes Well With:Sleep.
After battling with the horrible foam this product creates, I tried mixing it with a scoop of whey, and hey presto, NO MORE FOAM!!!Goes Well With:Whey and water
Despite casein being extremely effective, the texture and taste of the Unflavoured was disgusting. Even when mixed with milk and a lot of Myprotein's Flavour drops i could not stomach it. BUY THE FLAVOURED CASEIN
Really good protein keeps me going through the night
This is a great tasting casein powder, I've tried the chocolate and banana and they both taste good. The chocolate is great for someone with a sweet tooth and gives me a choc fix! Goes really well with porridge in the mornings tooGoes Well With:Oats
Doesn't mix well and the unflavoured is pretty disgusting. Very chalky consistency. Not too bad if you add flavouring to it though, I thought it would be like the Whey Protein which is amazing. I only use this product just before bed so as long as I can drinking I don't really care. If you are going to buy unflavoured then some flavour drops are a must in my opinion. Goes Well With:Flavouring.
Great stuff, keeps hunger at bay during the night and mixes really well. Only downside was unflavoured tastes awful.Goes Well With:Milk
I bought this for my wife to have at breakfast as she is trying to lose a bit of weight. She has an extremely busy job and tends to snack rather than eat well balanced meals. She has now has this in a morning as a supplement to her breakfast and it helps her not feel hungry until lunch (when she would preveously snack) She also uses it before bed when exercising late to help muscle repair overnight. (I know there are better products for this job but she's not a big supplement believer...yet!) Overall its a good product. She mixes it with a little milk and mainly water. The taste is pretty good (natural banana) but it does tend to get rather frothy when mixed in a shaker. We've found the best way is to mix it and drink immediately, don't give it a chance to settle! The texture is a bit chalky but I think most casein tastes this way.Goes Well With:30% Milk to 70% Water.
Great taste, easy to drink when you get to the shake, does not mix well, foams a lot when shaken and i feel you may lose some of the protein content because of that. not sure i'd buy it again for that reason.
Glad it doesn't taste too artificial. Just the right amount banana taste so it doesn't overpower. Blends and shakes well
Recently improved grain size, much finer than before, which has improved its mix-ability. Generally a very good product and should be one of your base supplements (along with whey and creatine). Flavorless tastes the best (like milk).
The product was delivered quickly and and on time. I had chosen the chocolate flavour, when made up with 200ml water it is still very thin and when shaken there is quite a bit of froth. The taste is OK. I have used it in with oats and unsweetened cocoa to give the oats some flavour which works well
This is a good product and I've noticed good strength gains and look better after 2 weeks use. Appears to be working well with a good diet and training 3/4 times a week. Only complaint I have is it leaves a chalky sensation on your teeth/tongue though maybe I'm not adding enough liquid?Goes Well With:Whey Protein, Green Tea Extract & Omega Oils
Great tasting protein. I have had the vanilla and the chocolate flavour and both taste great. I mix it with 300ml of skimmed milk before I go to bed. As nice as it tastes it can be difficult to drink just due to the face it's so thick!Goes Well With:300ml skimmed Milk
One of the best shakes I've tried in the past 3 years. Mix ability, flavour, efficiency, in total a great product. Never miss a casein shake before going to sleep. Usually 2.5-3 scoops to sleep through and waking up without starving. Mixing it with water. Goes Well With:Green Veg Mix
I'm 100% satisfied with the product. Quality protein for good price and excellent taste.
I really like the chocolate flavor. I mix it with little bit of water so it feels like a treat rather than a drink. I like the texture, can't describe it really but it feels pleasant on my tongue. It's really filling and stops the sweet tooth craving. I don't find the flavor to be too sweet or chemically tasting. Perfect! Will try other flavors as well.Goes Well With:Water, milk,
I am really glad I bought this. I see that it really helps me. The unflavored version is really ok to drink only if you put enough water (If you don't put enough it is really hard alone, I use FlavDrops whenever I put 100-200ml and it tastes fine with it). I recommend it to any one :)Goes Well With:FlavDrops Impact Whey Total Protein.
A solid non-workout day source of protein. Had the natural chocolate (tastes great) and natural banana (tastes fine but isn't banana). Mixes reasonably well and you can control the thickness depending on the amount of water you put in easily. The bag I got it in is a bit flimsy and the seal can break easily. One issue I had with the powder is how fine it is that the slightest movement can send it everywhere and then its chore having to keep cleaning up but that is minor. Would recommend.Goes Well With:Glutamine
You get what you pay for I guess... The flavour is unbareable and I'll never get unflavoured again... It doesnt mix as its so fine, therefore you get clumps of unmixed protein which adds to the poor flavour... But it does have a good effect and I can tell the difference within a month of using it
Love this protein shake! I usually mix 1 scoop with the impact diet whey with coconut milk in the morning (makes it nice and thick!) and have the same again at night before bed. Great way to have a lot of protein release over a nice long period.Goes Well With:impact diet whey and rice/coconut milk
Ordered this was lovely taste and so easy to mix, some can be very thick but this one is smooth. Tastes gorgeous too i ordered the chocolate. Defo good buy :)Goes Well With:SKIMMED MILK
Great product , would recommend it . You wake up in the morning feeling recovered and can tell the difference Goes Well With:Impact what protein - strawberry cream
Had the natural chocolate one and it tastes great, ive been having it before bed and in the day i have my whey and so far its doing the job it actually makes for a pretty nice bedtime snack with some crackers or something like that Will be buying again
This product is very good, I ordered the unflavoured and it still was good, I can't knock it at all. A great option for a protein just before bed as advised.Goes Well With:water or milk
This product is very good, I ordered the unflavoured and it still was good, I can't knock it at all. A great option for a protein just before bed as advised.Goes Well With:Water or Milk
Natural chocolate is the first Casein I have tried. Mixing isn't as good as Whey Protein, but it's not such an issue. The shake does have a grainy feel to it, but personally i didn't mind this. The taste is fine. A bit too sweet perhaps, but nice enough. Great before bed Instead of hot chocolate, and does seem to help recovery from training sessions.
Got chocolate taste. I was expecting more. taste is not good, have to mix with other flavors.
Mixes easily but becomes very foamy. Also doesn't taste so good but down it fast and as long as it give me what I want who cares. I have tasted worse.Goes Well With:Glutamine tropical flavour and waxy mazy starch as last meal supplement of the day.
Personally hate the taste of casein to normal protein but the chocolate my protein one is the best I've had. It taste a lot smoother and less grainy if you make it and just leave it in the fridge for an hour or so and just have it right before bed.
A very good product at an affordable price. Mixes thick since it has a very texture, so needs more liquid to get a smooth shake. But with the right amount there isn't any graininess to it. Flavor is as good as others more expensive. Goes Well With:Best mixed with whole milk.
The powder is pretty good - not filling and gives a slow release overnight. It's only let down by the lumpy texture. Even with a powerful blender like Nutribullet, the resulting smoothie is still looking like porridge after a 30sec blast. If texture of the mix is something that would bother you, look for something else. If not, this is a good protein powder for recovery. I can recommend the banana flavour.Goes Well With:Water, skim milk, soy milk, yogurt.
Excellent supplement, you really notice the difference when you don't hurt as much in morning obviously due to the fact of a high quality protein being drip fed while sleeping Goes Well With:Impact whey
Bought this to keep me full through the night and it has been a fantastic tasting end of day treat. The drawback being that I have to let it sit for 5 mins after shaking it to allow the froth to die down. I take a double scoop after a session of heavy sprints and it has help with my weight loss goals.
The recommendation states, it is optimal for pre-bedtime consumption as it helps a better recovery with it's longer absorption time, and it lives up to that. I use it every evening on the days I have training, and it completely removes the midnight cravings. Also, my muscles feel better in the morning. I ordered the vanilla tasting pouch, but it only has a hint of vanilla - I like the stronger tastes. It does mix well with milk (haven't tried with water yet), like any other MP product, but the resulting taste is not as creamy as I expected.Goes Well With:milk
When I say good alternative, I mean to the Bedtime Extreme option. The casein is much cheaper. Yes I know that there is less protein per serving, but my 1kg casein has lasted way longer than my bedtime extreme. And from what I can tell, with my diet remaining the same when on both, it does the same job. If you really wanted, you could just double the serving of the casein and it would still be a cheaper option. it doesn't mix or taste as good as the bedtime extreme but it's far from horrible. Great option in my opinion. Goes Well With:Only tried with water, but I imagine it would work well with milk.
Unflavored doesn't taste too bad. When mixed, there is quite a big head of foam on top, so a bit of chewing but all good.
Great quality product that tasted great and also very effective as a nighttime recovery drink post very heavy WODs
Those that are having problems. I recommend the Strawberry one as I think it tastes great. Yes the mix ability is different because it's a different Powder, it's a slow release and it works great, definitely seeing results. I like the froth it's more like a real milkshake. Note it is very chalky so when transferring it from tub to mixer or pouch to mixer it does kinda go everywhere, so be careful =) Worth using though, speeds recovery. 30 mins before bed. Usually wake up feeling less hungry too. Highly recommend Goes Well With:Water, skimmed milk, bedtime
Unlike all other types of protein my stock vanilla flavour has an awful flavour and texture. One scoop with 250ml of water, as recommended, creates a very frothy texture which is unpleasant to drink. I hope that this product is highly effective and the notion of slow release protein before bed should help to aid muscle recovery over night.
