Overview

What is Hydrolysed Whey?

Hydrolysed Whey Protein is a whey protein that has had some of its amino acid peptide bonds broken enzymatically into shorter chains of aminos which can lead to an enhanced absorption in the stomach. The Hydrolysed Whey Protein is produced by a controlled enzyme treatment of whey protein which is mild and is carefully monitored, leaving the essential amino acids intact and retaining the high quality of protein.

Hydrolysed Whey Benefits

This has a high protein content per serving (25.5g) and will contribute to the growth and maintenance of lean muscle mass. Due to the protein being pre-digested it will have a slight bitter taste.

Who is Hydrolysed Whey Suitable for?

This is ideal for anyone looking for a fast releasing protein supplement to help increase daily protein consumption.

I've not had this product for long enough yet to judge its effectiveness but it is very easy to mix and creamy and pretty much tasteless; this makes it very useful to use as a supplement to other foods too. Add to all this, the fact that you can easily mix the required scoop and a half to no more than 150ml of water and you've got a very powder. Why people moan about the taste of a powder when it is drunk in such small quantities and for such a minuscule period of time in one's life I'll never know. And whoever said this tasted "bitter" is just plain lying. For me - results all the way; taste - unimportant. The icing on the cake is the price. So low that I am truly wondering whether this really IS hydrolysed protein? Hmmm!!!

Truly excellent product. I don't know why people are complaining about a bitter taste, it tastes great, even the unflavoured version. It mixes extremely well and hasn't caused any bloating whatsoever, finally. Well worth the more expensive cost over regular isolate for someone like me with lactose intolerance.

For an unflavoured protein it actually tastes pretty good. The quality is great as I never get any bloating or intolerance. Great lean protein and super fast absorbing :)

I just took delivery of some unflavoured hydro whey today, and some malto and cocopure. I mixed up a water-whey-malto shake for PWO. I don't know why people are complaining about the bitter taste. It doesn't taste bitter at all. Just like slightly chalky milk. With a little sugar and some cocoa powder, I think it's going to taste delicious!

Maltodextrin, water

Best protein shake for all the right reasons

- (08 / Apr / 2014)

I have tried numerous proteins and had various results and experiences. This wins over them all for the following reasons: results, ease of taking, price & how well it mixes. I have waited a couple weeks before posting this review so I could comment on results and after a fortnight I have definitely put on lean muscle mass(approx 2.5 lbs). I train hard and religiously and so can definitely tell when a difference is made and this is certainly to be attributed to this protein. I have always had an issue with every protein I've ever taken for how I feel afterwards generally bloated and nearly always gasey. I took this as just how it had to be for taking the extra protein. However, I can honestly say the hydrolysed whey gives none of these problems. It gets straight into the system and due to the further filtration this type of whey goes through over any other types it gets straight into your muscles and gives no discomfort. My last protein before this one was a well known and respected brand I bought from Holland and Barret that many national rugby union sides use and roughly worked out at twice the price of myproteins! I have also bought myproteins shaker that comes with the whisk ball and it mixes this whey up fine in 10 secs max of shaking. My recomendation - buy the 2.5kg bag of hydrolysed whey unflavoured. This gives the maximum amount of protein per shake and actually tastes fine though due to other reviews I bought some banana flavour drops and they do the job great.

Goes Well With:

Water and flavour drops if required.

Ok it doesn't taste amazing, but it's not that bad. Plus you're not using it for its taste, I look at it like a medicine, doesn't taste good but is good for you. Mixes brilliantly, I mix with water in a shaker. Since using have noticed considerable recovery in my muscles post workout. Feel no pains or aches which in turn means I can push myself next time :) Highly highly recommend this product. If you can't handle the taste then maybe you should take up knitting instead of working out :)

hydrolysed whey

Hydrolysed whey.. tastes like sick! Partially digested by bacteria, in other words like gone off milk. You get used to it, but the first time is a bit of a shock. Its easily digestable, low fat, low carbs, low calories, high % protein, so the taste is the compromise. If your serious about your diet/nutrition why eat other whey that are suffed with flavourings and sugar, just to taste nice

Great product I don't understand why so many people are moaning about the taste?? Mix it with sugar free Ribena and you are sorted, once mixed it tastes much better than some of the flavoured whey proteins. If you are looking for a high quality Protein that is absorbed quickly then this product is perfect. Great for consumption within 30 mins of a workout. Whack it in the blender and down it job done!

Bad taste? Never heard of it

- (31 / Oct / 2013)

I see a lot of comments about bad taste of this product. I didn't notice anything like that. I was in doubt after reading all the comments regarding taste but I am drinking my shake now and it tastes okay. I mixed it with milk and banana and it tastes like a generic milk shake, no difference at all. I also mixed it with kefir (eastern european dairy drink) - tastes good. But if you mix it with water or juice - a bit gross, but not more gross than mixing any other unflavored protein with water.

Ok this is by far the worse thing I've ever tasted... its something else but I do think its good stuff and works as I do not have any pain after a workout and I see gains in muscle mass. It tastes fine (slightly bitter) and easy to digest, no bloating and wind anymore. I never drink it on its own but mix 1:1 ratio with whey isolate for pre-and post-workout intakes. I am lactose intolerant and hydro whey is virtually lactose free.

I am lactose intolerance and get bloated with lower graded WPI (90%). The hydro whey does not cause stomach upset and bloating. It tastes a little bitter but not bad at all. I always mix 1:1 ratio of hydrolysed whey with high graded chocolate WPI (e.g. Promax or Bulk WPI 97% ) 30minutes before and after workout.. If I drink it on its own, I just add a few drops of Chocolate FlavDrop to take out the bitterness. I have been using this product for a year and I maintain very lean and cut inspite of getting older.

Of course this tastes bad (to most, I don't mind it tbh) as it's an 'advanced protein' not a milk shake from a fast food outlet. The results are worth screwing your face up for, i.e. faster recovery. Only Pepto Pro is better for recovery which is more costly, but then quality costs. Better than whey isolate for recovery, shame not in a 5kg bag. I take 30g post and 20g in the morning, top stuff MP, just do a 5 kg bag!

Hydrolysed Whey

- (12 / Sep / 2013)

4

So lets get this out the way, the taste of Hydrolysed Whey Protein is pretty bad. Once you get past this you can feel some genuine results quickly on this. The reason it's unflavoured is to make assimilation as quick as possible and this product is the best recovery protein out there. I have a look at the research and ignore the taste. Don't mix anything other than water and a carb source with it and get it in immediately post workout. I've had good strength gains and I'm definitely not as sore from my training sessions. This is an excellent product, and highly recommended. Pinch your nose and suck it up.

Best protein on the market!

- (09 / Jul / 2013)

5

I've been using Hydrolysed Whey Protein for around 8 months twice a day, with bedtime extreme at night along with a clean diet. In the past I have tried countless protein supplements and I have to say that my physique since using this has changed dramatically. I've lost around 16lbs in this time whilst increasing my strength and endurance. I'm the leanest and most ripped I've ever been and people comment on how good I look. Although I've gone down a size in clothes, I can see nearly every muscle in my body. The only difference I've made is to cut out creatine and replace my usual whey isolate/concentrate blend with this and the bedtime protein. The taste is very acidic, almost like stomach bile but you get used to it and it's well worth the results. If I continue to see these results I will never use another protein!

I picked this Hydrolysed Whey Protein up after varying issues with digestion (IBS is a nightmare when trying to put on weight). It mixes well with milk, tastes alright, and most importantly, there's very little digestive issues. The only bugbear is the cost.

Creamy, but effective

- (29 / Jun / 2013)

3

Wow, this Hydrolysed Whey Protein tastes horrible. You need to buy some FlavDrops to mix with this stuff. I got the raspberry flavour ones, which may have been a mistake. You see, this stuff mixes up quite creamy, and with a foamy layer on top. Given the creamy texture, I maybe should have gone for a flavour which goes well with a creamier shake, like toffee maybe. It dissolves fine, but is quite creamy and stays quite foamy, even if left to settle for a bit, so mixability is not the best. However, it packs a lot of high quality protein for each serving, so it should help you to reach your goals. When I use this up, I might go back to the Impact Whey Isolate, which mixed better. It tasted awesome, and was actually refreshing after a workout.

Goes Well With:

Creatine Monohydrate, FlavDrops

Only post workout protein source you should be looking at. Bar none!!

- (25 / Jun / 2013)

5

I have been taking this as my only post workout protein source as it is so readily transported to the muscles after a workout. After listening to the pro maker George Farah and Kai greene at a seminar he explained in detail how much more beneficial that you use it in that critical half hour window post workout. Every other protein source wether it be isolate, concentrate etc are a waste of time as they still take a fair while to be utilised by the body. This hydrolysed whey has extremely fast absorption rates. The taste is not great but that's to be expected. To me if your more bothered about taste than product effectiveness and quality you shouldn't be bodybuilding. Mix ability is great. I don't get any lumps and clumps and I've tried it in a shaker bottle and water bottle. There is some foaming with it but nothing too major. There is No residue left at the bottom either. The Effectiveness has been positive. It is one of those products that is a slight change that could in the end make a big change to the overall picture especially if you are someone who likes to be one step ahead of the game and the competition. I take it first thing in the morning upon waking and within 10 minutes post workout. On each occasion I take 3 large MP scoops. Summary - This is a superb high protein, virtually zero carb and fat product. It is only for serious trainers and despite its price tag it's still the best value on the market by far. Highly recommended

Hydrolysed Whey Protein - Pretty good product!!!

- (10 / Jun / 2013)

5

I was unsure about buying this Hydrolysed Whey Protein initially because of the reviews about the taste. I decided in the end that the bigger picture was how effective it was as a product and invested in 2.5 kg. I am glad that I did! It does not taste great because it is unflavoured, so go figure! I don't feel bloated and I feel that the product is working well, I'm also very happy because it is so low in cards and fats, not like some 'flavoured products' out there. I was a bit disappointed that a scoop was included and this has to be bought separately. A tub for packaging would probably be better, as I am not too keen on the reseal packaging.

I must have tried over 20 different brands of protein and always felt bloated and bunged up as I'm lactose intolerant, but this Hydrolysed Whey Protein is the first product that actually works for me. I have tried many protein shakes by other popular brands which claim there protein powders are lactose and fat free being certain you will get no intestinal irritation. Hydrolysed whey protein by my protein is the only protein powder which hasnt given me intestinal irritation or bloating as such. I bought the unflavoured option and must say it doesnt taste that bad compared to other over priced brands. The taste is a bit bitter but it tastes good enough to drink! All their products are well worth the money with great value prices. I would really recommend this product and the brand in general if you want top quality sports nutrition products with the lowest price possible! It goes well with Creatine.

Some of the comments here are ridiculous - it's hydrolysed whey, of course it isn't going to taste like ice cream! Secondly, mixing it with high sugary drinks and powders completely defies the point of paying more for a super clean whey protein. The effectiveness is awesome and really, with any product, that should be all that matters, because if you want the results enough you wouldn't care about the taste. In any case once you're half way through your taste buds will be used to its flavour. Still a 5* product because its only as good as its results! Goes Well With: Creatine.

"Having read the reviews I prepared myself for the horror of the taste, and found...there was none. It was pleasant: creamy with a slight bitterness. I had used unsweetened almond milk the first time which improves the flavour. With water it is slightly more bitter, but nothing to the extent people have been describing. It is still totally drinkable, and not unpleasant. I recommend making an amount that you can consume straight away. Also, not having it following something particularly sweet. But many people seem to be desensitised to natural flavours by sugar and sweetners. I suffered no intestinal irritation either. It's a great product."

"I have been training hard for a good few years. I have found this hydrolysed whey powder to be intense. No fat, no carbs. After a massive training session; squatts, deadlifts or bench press, I now take this pure protein. 2 large scoops, 1 and half scoops of dextrose, small scoop of creatine. In 2 months I have noticed significant gains, better than my last few years on other whey protein shakes. Big slabs of muscle, veins running down my arms, actual big quads at last!! This stuff works. Yes it tastes like shite, but IT WORKS. shake it up, hold your breath, shoot it down in a few gulps. I am writing this review, as I am very pleased, and am going to buy another 2.5 kgs now. "

"It really does taste horrendous unflavored, but if you're training your guts out at the gym, a few minutes of bad tasting liquid is nothing. Something I've noticed after only 2 shakes is, the more you water this stuff down the better. If you're going for 250ml water and 30g of this, it will be terrible. 1L to 30g however is much better. I'm drinking this 1:1 with protein to dextrose/maltodextrin, so it might be better 1:2 or 1:3 as is usually prescribed."

As a sufferer of crohnd disease I have found a lot of other products cause bloating and nausea but not this one. Yes it tastes horrendous but mixed in a shake with some oats and fruit makes it drinkable. Due to the crohns I find it difficult to put muscle on but the fast absorbtion of this pre digested protien has made a noticeable difference and I'm starting to see a change after using this for a month and I'm definately going to buy more.

"It tastes like puke, you cannot drink this without adding something to it. I've tried various powders and drops and nothing really makes it taste nice, but they will allow you to drink it. It's difficult to mix, unless you're using a shaker. I used to mix whey concentrate with a fork and it takes much longer with hydrolysed whey, but it's doable. The bloating from whey concentrate is gone. Stomach stays flat after having drunk this :D."

"I decided to buy this protein instead of my usual basically for the price. However, the taste is just UNDRINKABLE, I can hardly believe this is supposed to be edible. As I am intolerant to most whey concentrate and whey isolate, I decide to go this Hydrolised non-flavoured version. Regarding my tolerance it is perfect no problem but the taste it is hard to hide almost impossible. The only way I have managed to cover is doing a banana shake but it is still not something I crave. I will not even think about to use it on meal replacement as it is just disgusting. I will advice MYPROTEIN to add some flavour. I appreciate the fact has not additive or any artificial things but you need to do something with the flavour. I will definitely not going to buy this again "

I use it exclusively for post workout. mixed with nothing but water. at first i couldnt stand the taste but Ive developed a tolerance for it now and it goes down the hatch as easy as the flavoured isolate I use for my brekfast and pre workout shakes. "Brilliant product for anyone serious in there training or at a high level, I use this whenever cutting up and stripping BF to preserve muscle. No filler, no flavouring no pointless calories. The taste is a bit rough on it's own but add some honey or Aloe Vera Manuka Honey (better nutrients and lower GI) and it tastes fine, like malt in fact. If taste is that much of a factor to you, that you can't stand 5 seconds downing it after your training sessions then is your training really that important to you... if so falvoured isolate probably wont make much difference and is a more palatable taste. But as for results, nothing hits the muscles as quick as this due to it part digested structure so it's instantly absorbed. "

"I've always been a fan of hydrolysed protein as a post-workout drink, purely as I've always seen decent gain and improved recovery times whilst using it. This is the first time I've used MP's version, and so can't comment on effectiveness particularly yet. However, I have noticed the same good recovery times as with other products, and hopefully I'll notice similar gains. Mixes easily, and as for taste, hydrolysed protein is renowned for tasting bitter, and I've yet to taste a product which uses it in a decent proportion that doesn't taste bad. Competitor products even put on the label that it tastes bad! That being said, I mixed it with MP Recovery XS and it tasted fine, quite enjoyable actually. Assuming the gains are good I'll definitely be buying again."

Great when mixed with dextrose as the dextrose sweetens it up. I only use this protein during and after workouts so i don't take it as a standalone product. Was thinking all you guys who take it alone why don't you buy flavoured protein as this is great for using anytime and use Hydrolysed Whey Protein just around workouts. I have found using this protein around workout times as giving me better gains.
