High in protein and low in fat Calcium Caseinate is a valuable ingredient in diet formulations, sports drinks, nutritional supplements and protein bars. Made from fresh skimmed milk, Calcium Caseinate is a spray-dried milk protein that is also low in sodium.
It contains extremely high levels of aminoacids, higher than both whey and soy isolate and could also help other proteins become more digestible by prolonging the time they spend in the intestinal tract.
Calcium Caseinate is a great protein to supplement with right before bed or if you know you won't be eating a high protein meal during the day as the protein synthesis will be notably slower than most other proteins. The recommended dosage for this effect is at least 30 grams of Calcium Caseinate in a serving. This will yield a high percentage of protein. Calcium Caseinate can be used to reach daily protein requirements easily.
The amino acid profile can be found at the bottom of the page under 'Certificates'.
If you are looking for a slowly digested protein (i.e. pre-bedtime) then we would recommend our Milk Protein Smooth as it is better tasting and designed to be used in nutritional drinks.
Upon mixing you may notice that our Calcium Caseinate forms a cloudy but stable, colloidal but mostly homogenised suspension. You may also observe a higher foam level than that frequently seen on other protein powders. This is nothing to worry about and merely represents the typical physical properties of this product. The flavour profile of this product may also differ from that of other protein powders, with Calcium Caseinate having a thicker but grainier presence on the palate with a slightly flat flavour peak.
The differences you may experience in flavour and viscosity will not, however, affect the nutritional profile of the product and it’s quality as a slow absorbing protein.
Add 400ml of water or milk into our shaker (the less liquid you use the thicker the shake will become). Then add 1 heaped MP large scoop (30g), shake and consume. Use just before bedtime for optimal results or 2-3 times daily as required.
1 x level MP Plastic Scoop (large) weighs 24g. (not included)
Calcium Caseinate*, Cocoa Powder (chocolate flavours only), Flavouring (flavoured options only), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Sweetener (Sucralose® [flavoured options only]), Colouring (Beetroot Red [strawberry cream flavour only]). *From Milk.
Per 30g:Energy: 112.0Kcal Energy: 473.0kJ Protein (dry basis): 28.5g Protein (as-is): 27.0g Carbohydrates (Lactose): 0.1g Fat: 0.6g
Please note this nutritional information is taken from the unflavoured version. When choosing a flavoured version it will reduce the protein content by approximately 3% for most flavours, however chocolate, due to the added cocoa, will reduce it by approximately 8%.

Really bad mixability, you literally have 5 seconds after shaking to drink the whole thing or it might just choke you when it clumps up, but nevertheless, I can't do without my casein.
- (19 / Nov / 2013)
I don't really care about taste and tbh have never really cared that a shake doesn't mix too well until now. It's mixability takes the P I double S, it is so thick that is got stuck in my shaker and adding more water only makes it worse.
I wish I could get a different product.
- (18 / Nov / 2013)
This is a great value product. You are probably better off mixing it with a hand blender but hey that's calcium caseinate for you.
- (10 / Nov / 2013)
You need some days to get used to the unflavored taste and also to the texture but it is not bad. Also it is really good for the slow release and the good protein percentage. I'm really satisfied with this.
Just what i needed
- (10 / Nov / 2013)
I've recently stepped up my training and need round the clock protein, rather than get up in the middle of the night I was looking for a casein, this one took my eye for the value, I went for the strawberry flavour 2.5kg. I wont lie to you, mixed with water this one is very thick, like paste and lacks a little in taste but with milk this is phenomenal, like an angel delight. It is so so tasty, having never used this product before I am so impressed with it. This slow release protein will keep you going through the night and you won't be starving in the morning, a must for the serious builder.
I had a small issue with the delivery which was resolved by the helpful staff too, all round, very happy. Goes Well With:milk, try mixing it and putting in the fridge for before bedtime,

Great tasting protein.
Service from 'My protein' excellent
- (22 / Oct / 2013)
Love this stuff! Blended with quark/Greek yoghurt, cinnamon, egg white, ice & xanthan gum frozen for a half hour it makes amaing ice cream like stuff! Definitely keeps me going through the night and don't wake up absolutely starving in be morning. Goes Well With:Quark, MP flavourings. Anything really.
- (08 / Oct / 2013)
I purchased this product 2 increase my protein intake at night. This slow acting protein is perfect as a pre bedtime shake. I personally take it 4 hours into my sleep meaning my body is always consuming protein every 3-4 hours. Really helps me increase lean mass.Goes Well With:MP ZMA.
- (29 / Sep / 2013)
I had this Calcium Caseinate about a week now and use before bed, the taste isn't great but was okay. It turns into a foam like liquid which has a strange texture but I can live with it and with nearly 30g of protein, you cannot complain! Taste 4/5, texture 3/5, protein 5/5, overall 4/5.
- (20 / Sep / 2013)
For everyone moaning about the mixability and taste. Use one scoop of Calcium Caseinate with 250ml of semi skimmed milk and mix in a blender. It has a great taste and mixes fine.Goes Well With:milk
- (18 / Sep / 2013)
This protein is very thick when initially mixed, and sometimes gets clumpy. You really have to shake it with both arms, add water and continue to shake because it gets very frothy. You then have to leave it for a good 20 minutes to settle so you can finally drink it. A bit of a pain, but apart from this it is a good product, would probably try a different casein though after this one, I sometimes avoid taking it because it's such a pain to make!Goes Well With:Lot of water, 20 minutes settling time in a fridge
- (16 / Sep / 2013)
The product tastes really well and is a good option for night time protein.
- (11 / Sep / 2013)
First of all -I do strongly recommend cassein...Even if the taste is miserable, it would taste much better with some fruit syrup added. Remember that you have to drink it instantly after mix as otherwise it would go thicker and you would need a spoon.,,,(much better is drink it fast and its over).Goes Well With:with any fruit syrup
- (09 / Sep / 2013)
Good value for what it is. It doesn't always mix perfectly - sometimes with a few clumps, but these can be shaken out. The taste is quite clean, though is much better when used with flavdrops. Usually take a scoop or two before bed.Goes Well With:Impact Whey protein
How to make it drinkable!
- (08 / Sep / 2013)
I found that this Calcium Caseinate is very thick. It is almost undrinkable if you mix it right before bedtime. But, to make it less thick, try shaking it beforehand like 2 hours before you need to consume it, that way all the thick undrinkable foam will disappear. I put it in the fridge 2 hours before I need to consume it and that way it tastes okay (not as good as impact whey strawberry cream). But that way it is much easier to consume and the effect is noticeable. I don't wake up really hungry in the morning anymore and I'm not hungry before bedtime either, all in all when it is on sale, a good product.Goes Well With:Water and fridge
its better than ok
- (06 / Sep / 2013)
This Calcium Caseinate shake is very thick with milk and is very filling. If you are looking for a whey protein drink that's thin like water, then this is not for you.
If you are looking for a Caseinate for bed time you won't go far wrong with this. However the taste is not great (choco)and the mixing is not great.
I've tried a lot of stuff over 16 years and this is not that bad. Not great but not bad.Goes Well With:water
- (03 / Sep / 2013)
I purchased this to use in my bedtime and also post-workout shakes, as a slightly cheaper alternative to Impact Milk Isolate or the other Casein based powders.
Although it's slightly cheaper, I think I may go back to my previous alternatives; this is personal preference as I found Calcium Caseinate had an after taste that I wasn't keen on at all.
But if you do not mind the after taste and are on a budget, then this is for you.Goes Well With:Strawberry MP Flavouring
- (30 / Aug / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate mixes very poorly into an undrinkable, thick foam. The taste is also awful! This is by far the worst protein product I have ever tried.
- (19 / Aug / 2013)
This Calcium Caseinate is extremely difficult to mix - it's almost a workout in and of itself trying to do so to any reasonable standard. It tastes disgusting, and I can tolerate quite unpalatable protein powders unflavoured.Goes Well With:Chicken feed.
- (05 / Aug / 2013)
I tried vanilla and strawberry flavours of Calcium Caseinate. Both taste good. Strawberry thickens better than the vanilla, but is slightly harder to mix. In all, it's a good product.Goes Well With:Water
Night time drink
- (27 / Jul / 2013)
I bought this Calcium Caseinate for a non-carbohydrate calorie drink for evening/night. I was a bit concerned by the comments re the mixability but decided to weigh out the powder rather than rely on the mixing scoop. I
found that 60g mixes really easily with water and makes a non lumpy drink but 60g is not a heaped scoop like the whey protein - it's less than a full scoop. Maybe that's why some reviews are negative. It's easy to drink, with no nasty lumps and texture like skimmed milk. The flavour could be a bit better though - I ordered the vanilla but it's a bit difficult to detect the vanilla flavour. It's not unpleasant though. Does it do the job? It's too early to tell. Will I order again - quite probably. Is it worth a try? Yes at this price!
- (16 / Jul / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate is effective at reducing hunger and providing slow release protein. Seems to have helped with gains. It mixes better if mixed with some whey protein first in the cup dry and then adding water. The taste isn't great but is more tolerable with whey protein.Goes Well With:Whey protein
- (09 / Jul / 2013)
I used Calcium Caseinate before they instantised it and it was a much better product, however, it is still a very good product.Goes Well With:Almond milk
- (08 / Jul / 2013)
The mixability of Calcium Caseinate is horrific. It turns to a thick, gooey, lumpy paste that cannot be drunk. I strongly advise that people stay away for this.
- (08 / Jul / 2013)
Calcium Caseinateis terrible! It doesn't mix well, foams up, and the powder is so fine it makes a mess.
- (02 / Jul / 2013)
I found this extremely hard to mix, I couldn't get the lumps out in a shaker or a whisk. The lumps were so bad I couldn't drink it without heaving!
I ended up mixing it with natural yoghurt and eating it!
- (01 / Jul / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate is a great product. I'm very happy. The only issue is getting unflavoured as it tastes terrible, but that's only through fault of my own. It works good before bed, as I'm not waking up hungry. It's definitely recommended.
Dried Vomit taste
- (24 / Jun / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate used to be edible but by instantising it, it is undrinkable (and I can drink CEE straight). It tastes so off, I cannot swallow it.
- (16 / Jun / 2013)
I tried it Calcium Caseinate (which is too sweet for me but I can live with it) and unflavoured (that was bland so I ended up adding cinnamon and mixing with berries). Taste is not great but it is a protein shake not a dessert. It does the job and really helps with muscle building or fat burning whatever your goal is you will get there with this product.
Enjoy and train hard!Goes Well With:soya milk, almond milk, berries, bananas
- (11 / Jun / 2013)
This is my favourite shake! Amazing taste ....high protein. If I could have only that shake 5 times daily as a meal, I'll have it!
- (10 / Jun / 2013)
I have been using Calcium Caseinate with Impact Whey Isolate and they mix well together. The flavour is good (strawberry smooth) and goes down well unlike others I have tried in the past. I highly recommend it.Goes Well With:Impact Whey Isolate
- (31 / May / 2013)
This Calcium Caseinate tastes great, mixes well in a shaker and is a well priced product. Yes, it is a different consistency (thicker) to whey protein but this is to be expected with such a slow digesting protein. I would strongly recommend this as a evening drink, or in the day if you struggle eating regularly enough to maintain a positive nitrogen balance.Goes Well With:Milk / Water
- (29 / May / 2013)
I have no idea if it actually works, it tastes vile though (strawberry flavour)Goes Well With:A dead rat
My tuppence worth
- (27 / May / 2013)
There are a lot of negative comments about taste and mix-ability of this Calcium Caseinate, I feel I must disagree. I use 300ml of liquid to 30g of unflavoured powder in a blending/mixing cup - milk if I have spare calories, water if I don't, and personally have no real issues. The milk mix tastes good (5*), the water mix (3*) is more than drinkable after 2/3 nights. It does froth somewhat but it still goes down the neck easily. The missus says it smells like baby formula, and I wouldn't disagree. When all is said and done, it does what it says on the tin (plastic bag?).
Nasty taste and texture
- (22 / May / 2013)
This Calcium Caseinate doesnt mix so its lumpy and doesn't taste that great either.
Better than Whey
- (20 / May / 2013)
It's amazing how many people mix this Calcium Caseinate incorrectly. This is not whey. I mix a full scoop (about 30g) in to a blending jug with about 350ml of milk, blend it for about 10 seconds and then down it like a man. Yes it does mix thick, but a blender solves that issue. It basically tastes like milk and if a baby can drink milk then I'm sure a gym-going adult can handle it. Once a day is enough, and because it is slow to digest, take it as you walk out the door on your way to the gym. Seriously, if you are the type that cannot be bothered to get a blender out, or cry because it doesn't have sweeteners, you shouldn't be in a gym in the first place. I've researched and tried probably every type of protein going and I always come back to this one. The experts will say it isn't even a good quality protein but the results speak for themselves and I've never got anywhere with any of the so-called quality wheys, and I've tried them all; concentrate, isolate, hydrolysate, and from just about every well known supplier / manufacturer. I can't praise this stuff enough. My advise is, make sure you have a good diet, gym regular, eat well, sleep well, and also take 5g of Creatine Mono and 5g Beta-Alanine a day, and you will start to feel the benefits in about 2 weeks and by week 3 if people aren't commenting on your gains then you must be doing something wrong. When you feel the benefits wearing off, change to Impact Whey Isolate for a month, then go back to Calcium Caseinate and I promise within 2 days you will be reminded of what a great product this is.Goes Well With:Creatine Mono (Creapure), Beta-Alanine.
- (20 / May / 2013)
This Calcium Caseinate does what you buy it for, but tastes very poor and mixes really badly. I had the vanilla version and there isn't any flavour to it. It foams up to a point where you can't really drink it. That said, I've had good results,so if you are not bothered about taste or mixability, it is a bargain.
Not worth it!
- (19 / May / 2013)
I bought this Calcium Caseinate to try, and definitely would not buy it again. The other flavours may work better, but the chocolate mix was simply undrinkable. The best way I can describe the overall drink was like drinking cold coco-pops that had been left out all day. Mixing was difficult. I tried water and milk, and both were very poor. Effectiveness seemed to be okay, but I will not be buying again.
Not easy to blend but beneficial
- (15 / May / 2013)
I find the chocolate flavour Calcium Caseinate dificult to mix which leaves chunks behind. It's nasty stuff. It's very beneficial though so it's worth it. I'll try an electric blender to make sure it's not me.
- (11 / May / 2013)
I found Calcium Caseinate to be undrinkable and un-mixable - It foams and it's clumpy!
- (08 / May / 2013)
All I can say is not great.
I have to take it with orange squash due to poor mixability. Is pretty much not doable without! I found I couldn't drink the protein and water by itself and I would consider myself quite good at killing bad tasting shakes off. Guess trying to skip to inflavoured wasn't my best choices
Mixes to FROTh
- (08 / May / 2013)
I can't speak highly enough about myprotein products but this Calcium Caseinate was a massive disappointment upon the first shake to discover 100 % froth. Even after leaving it standing for 20 minutes it was still too frothy to drink comfortably. This needs addressing as protein shakes are for consuming typically right away once made and not having to wait for it to de-froth for an hour. The taste is okay but overshadowed by the froth factor. It's quality late night protein nonetheless.
- (07 / May / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate is not the best tasting protein. I find I don't like it on its own, but mixed with whey it's okay. It's still a bit unpleasant tasting but you can cope with it. It also doesn't mix great and tends to go clumpy. Again I've found if I mix it with whey and make sure the two powders are mixed well with each other before I add the liquid they mix together much better. It can still be a little lumpy but not nearly as bad as without the whey. Effectiveness wise I think it's a good, long lasting supply of protein.
- (06 / May / 2013)
After discovering Myprotein 6 months ago, I have been buying all my supplements from them. As I have started a specific training programme, I needed a slow release protein for bridge meals and before bed but Calcium Caseinate isn't good. I got the unflavoured version as I thought I could add whatever I liked to it. It mixes like wallpaper paste, tastes like wallpaper paste and nothing I add to it disguises how bad it is. I advise getting a flavoured version.
- (03 / May / 2013)
This is the first time I have tried a Calcium Caseinate shake before and I think it's great! I have one just before bed and it keeps me fed through the night, and I am starting to see the benefits already. I will definitely be ordering this product again! I had the strawberry cream flavour, and it's just like a thick milkshake. You just can't go wrong for the price!
- (03 / May / 2013)
I am really quite fed up how much contaminated rubbish is still sold as diet food; there is no excuse for this!
Adding any Artificial Sweeteners or unnatural chemicals to consumed product is stupid, especially for diet product because of the well documented metabolic problems these cause, but adding toxic chemicals like Sucralose (covalent Chlorine Pesticide) is negligence, just like for Aspartame; so stop it and use natural sweeteners like Stevia instead.
- (30 / Apr / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate was fairly poor, it wouldn't mix at all which ever way I tried. It also froths up ridiculously and is near enough undrinkable.
- (29 / Apr / 2013)
Calcium Caseinate is very poor and doesn't mix. It just makes mass amounts of bubbles however I mix it.
- (26 / Apr / 2013)
I bought the strawberry flavour of Calcium Caseinate a few months ago. It takes a bit of effort to get the mixing right, it is quite frothy and thick, turns into more like a thick yogurt. The taste isn't awful, but it's not amazing, quite sweet but drinkable. As a hard gainer and previous long distance runner, I have felt a benefit from using this as a night time shake with regards to recovery and bulking up. The only downside is timing the shake so as not to wake up at 3am needing to pee.
Last month I bought the vanilla flavour. In a nut shell, it is awful. It doesn't mix without lumps and gives lots of thick lasting bubbles to the top of the shaker. To combat this I added more water, but this means you have to drink more of it. To my taste the flavour isn't anywhere near vanilla, not to be dramatic but it's pretty disgusting. After 4 nights attempting to get over the mixing and flavour, I'm going to leave the bag near full and buy a new strawberry one again.Goes Well With:Powdered Oats
