Strong has become the new beauty trend. Fashion and perceptions of the female body has changed dramatically over time! In the 80s they were obsessed with long legs, similar to those of Elle Macpherson.


The 90s was all about that cleavage which was showcased by the lovely Eva Herzigova. Kate Moss swooped in and shook the fashion world with her thin boyish body and in the 00s it was filled with magazines on how to get a thigh gap. Now the new body statements are perfect chiselled abs with a matching toned pair of legs and a perky peachy bum to go with it! Hard work eh?

We now live in a world where technology is ruling our life with popular social networks like Instagram and Facebook which are filled with ripped and toned females showing off their perfect beach bodies all year round. Is “strength and toning” slowly becoming the new “skinny”? Thigh gaps have quickly become something of the past and women are striving for perfectly sculpted thighs and toned bums. Thousands of women worldwide are sharing their transformation stories and pictures on social network which in turn inspires many other women to take up the challenge to change their bodies.


With so many inspiring female sport idols such as Serena Williams, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Ronda Rousey who work hard to achieve their sporting goals, and proudly flaunt their well-earned bodies for the world to see, it is hard to ignore the beauty their bodies hold. Strong has become the new sexy and women are bustling into the gyms and shredding the fat to get the “abs crack” and the bum worthy to be called “bootylicious”. Music idols like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez are no strangers when it comes to showing their strong sexy toned bodies on and off stage.

With perfectly sculpted bodies everywhere for women to indulge in, it is easy to see how it has become the new trend. Sportswear has boomed and more stylish wear has been designed. Sportswear is no longer dull baggy clothes that you hope you don’t get caught in, but now funky and stylish, something you can flaunt in and out of the gym. You could say that it has become a fashion statement. A fit body in workout gear is the new cool trend that everyone has latched onto.


Whatever the reason for the sudden explosion of interest in fitness and perfectly sculpted bodies, who are we to stop it. Why shouldn’t women want to workout and embark on a healthier more fulfilling life? Being a fit person has many perks to it which go far beyond the physical side of a rocking body. Being a fit and healthy person mentally puts you in a better frame of mind. Many people have found comfort in their new healthy lifestyle. Having a healthy body and mind forces you to see the world in a new light.

The myths of women turning into macho machines after one gym session are slowly being broken down. Thanks to social media, there is plenty of photos and video proof of hundreds of females clocking into a gym and giving it their all, but not turning into a female version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Females have been finding their confidence and strength throughout the years and are now showing it through their newly toned bodies for all to see!
