Micellar Casein

Overall:
Mixability:
Taste:
Effectiveness:

I have no special qualms or advantages to this product. I've received it properly packed, and tried out a bit of casein in yogurt. I had no chalky feelings or problems in mixability like others (not that I care much about mixing). As for taste, I don't care about taste, I order my stuff unflavoured whenever I can, so no negative or positive points on that. As for effectiveness, It's most useful long hours post workout or taking it at night. You can consume it in the evening to safeguard your muscles when you're doing IF (14-16 hours).

Micellar Casein

Bought a 1kg bag of vanilla after reading everyone else's reviews and I'm glad I did as the usual next day aches/stiffness has all but gone since taking this before bed. Firstly, don't expect this to be as smooth/easy to drink as Impact Whey. On my first mix I followed the packet instructions but found it to be quite thick, with a lot of froth and with an incredible chalky after taste / texture which I ended up pouring away and feeling quite disappointed with it. After reading some reviews about this protein source on other forums/websites this wasn't anything uncommon and I noticed a lot of comments about how Myprotein's is the best on the market so stuck with it. Either use a blender or a hand whisk and jug and the mix is much easier to drink and tastes a lot nicer. There's still a slight chalky texture but you quickly get past this. I'm also using more water (roughly 400ml).

Love this slow release protein have been using this product for a long time(even before the name change) and would highly recommend to anyone. I use it both in a shake form and to make protein brownies with and they both taste great.

Know what you're buying!

I appreciate all the reviews likening this powder to chalk... but ultimately you need to understand the product your buying. Casein isn't soluble, and doesn't mix well with anything - however it's exceptional at providing your body with a steady stream of aminos over a longer period of time. I've given this product 5* for everything, because it's exactly what it should be. A slow release, very low carb, very low fat, decent-tasting, slow release protein powder. If you want something that mixes well, buy some Nesquik; if you want something ultra-functional and palatable, buy this. N.B. Purchased this product as I'm on a 5:2 (PSMF:Normal) style diet and need something convenient and nutritious that's vl-carb and vl-fat on the 5 600-800(ish) kcal days.

Ludicrous mixability and taste

2
Overall:
Mixability:

Coming from ON Casein, this was a really hard drop. The mixability is poor - half the shaken product is hard-to-drink foam and the other half is liquid interspersed with grainy powder. The taste is one of the worst I have ever had in a protein shake - it feels chemical-y and the smell is enough to gross you out. Not everything is doom and gloom however, I found its effectiveness to be quite decent in aiding muscle recovery. Bottom line - would only recommend if you want to go with a cheap casein powder.

Works well for me

A lot of complaints about foaminess here, which can be avoided if mixed correctly. If you shake or whisk this powder up, you will end up with lumpy foam. For best results, I gently stir 1 scoop with ~250ml lactose free milk. It goes a little foamy, but nowhere near as much as after shaking. Leave this to settle for 10-15min, then stir gently again. Leave for another 10-15 min, then it should be fine to drink. I also stir in 3 tsp cocoa powder, using the unflavoured powder. I have this just before bed and on rest days, seems to be helping with delaying muscle loss kicking in.

Foam problem fix

This is a great product that i would recommend to anyone. A few people have mentioned a problem with it creating foam when mixing. I used to mix with 250ml of water in a shaker with the ball. 50% Liquid and 50% hard to drink foam. Tried 200ml water and 50ml of skimmed milk and no foam at all! Strange but works.

Dissapointed with the taste, mixability and powdery feel.

Having tried a lot of Casien protein I found this to be one of the worst. The powdery taste does not seem to dissapear no matter how long you shake it. The taste feels like artificial sweetener and quite grainy. Not even that flavoursome either. This is surprising to me given how light the feel of the casien powder is. Fairly dissapointed as I was recommend it by a good friend. The price is reasonable which may be a false sense of security. Having bought a 2.5kg I'm kinda of lumbered with it but may cut my losses and go back to my usual USN and Maximusle brands. It's difficult to tell if it has had any effect as I have only tried it for a few days but like I say if one is unable to tolerate or stomach the taste of it then may not see the true benefits, if indeed their is one. Sorry to be so negative folks but it's a shame as the other reviews seemed so positive about it, I just cannot see how!

Nothing. Tried it with milk and water. It ruins in both cases. Sorry to be so negative it really is that bad.

I like this product, it helps digest high levels of protein really well for me. The only thing I'd say, is to maybe address the slight acid like taste you get with the strawberry, I mean, it's alright but could taste nicer. I'd have it again no complaints, but that's just my thoughts.

Wasn’t sure at first.

Wasn’t to sure about this at first, found it very foamy and chalky when drinking with water. But I have realised this mixes very easy so you don’t need to shake it like an idiot to get it to mix. It literally needs about 2-3 hard shakes and it’s sorted, it’s the hard shaking that makes it really foamy. Hope this helps. Helped me a lot.
