Brown Rice Protein is the concentrated fraction of the whole rice grain which is produced through a wet milling and all natural proprietary process. It is produced by various steps of fermentation, filtration processing and enzymatic processing to remove the protein and fiber from whole grain brown rice. The basis for this process is sprouted whole grain brown rice which is the raw material for production.

If you're after non a non dairy protein source then this is it, mixes well and with around 24g protein with each 30g scoop you can't go to wrong. The taste however is something else, some people comparing it to cardboard are not far off, but it has to be one of the most disgusting tastes ever. It's taste is so over powering, I've tried to make protein pancakes, protein flapjacks etc. using this protein as opposed to whey but you can't escape the gritty nature and vile taste. When it comes to shakes I've tried to mix it with cinnamon, cocoa powder, honey, chia seeds and a range of others just to try and partly remove the taste but I simply cannot. I've literally just purchased a smoothie maker, so will try and mix fruits etc. with the protein to see if I can get away from the horrible taste. I'm not actually lactose intolerant like some people are, I choose not to take whey protein as I'm a sufferer of acne, and if any of you do any research with regards to whey protein and acne, then you will understand the situation I'm in. I stopped taking whey about 2/3 months back, but it's so hard to get the right amount of proteins in my diet to hit my macros without the odd shake or two during the day, hence why I searched for non-dairy protein shake source. If anyone is looking to take this as a whey alternative due to acne like myself, so far I can tell you I've had no adverse effects so far, just the taste makes it so hard to bare. All I can say is grit your teeth and drink this as fast as you can, have water next to use each time as after every mouthful your mouth becomes dry as if you've just swallowed some chalk. I've given this 4 stars purely based on the reason why we take this - to add protein to our diets to compliment our training and it does that. I do not usually post reviews but feel so strongly about the awful taste of Brown Rice Protein I thought I must. When I read the other reviews stating it tasted bad I thought I would be able to mix it with enough fruit and sweet things that it would wipe out the bad taste. I too have found this impossible to do. Anything I mix it with is obliterated by what can only be described as the taste of wet carboard soaked in mud. When mixed, a layer of powder is always left in the foam which then coats your teeth / sticks to the back of your throat, which further adds to the gagging when consuming this drink. I've got to a stage where I can throw it down my neck but it has taken far more effort and mind power than should be needed. I imagine I have developed the sort of mind control that Shaolin monks have. I've got 2.5kgs to get through anyway, I'm shuddering at the thought. After reading the reviews I was a bit confused but decided to give it a go as I was annoyed how whey protein made me feel. Being bloated is not fun and looking 4 months pregnant is not so enjoyable either. All the negativity was directed mostly towards the taste. Not exactly sure how brown rice protein tastes on it's own because I took advice from a friend and I mixed the brown rice protein with pea protein and mix it just with water without adding flavourings and I must be weird because I totally don't mind the taste. You definitely wont go "mmm that's soo good" but it's not the worst tasting thing that I've drank or eaten for sure. For those really fussy ones if you mix it with juice you wont be able to taste it (tried that with first shake to be on the safe side) I cannot really comment on effectiveness just yet but I can say that it doesn't make me bloated and uncomfortably full after drinking it so therefore I love it.Goes Well With:Tropicana mango and orange juice but I just mix it with water (and with pea protein)
I bought this product because I wanted a protein shake that wasn't full of sodium or sweetener or other additives, this is the most natural I have found so far. It mixes well, but it does taste awful, I have to stand at the sink and drink it quick...but then that's only takes a few mins and I would prefer that to added flavours etc. I can't tolerate the whey etc shakes so this works for me and its good value. Give it a go, just be prepared for the taste.
My nutricianist first recommended this for me (please see my review from January 2015). I've been using it for just over 3 months and can report that I now actually enjoy taking it. What works for me is about 250ml of water, 30g scoop of rice protein, a liberal shake of cinnamon and some flax seeds (linseed). I don't have a shaker, so just weigh the dry ingredients into a plastic beaker, add water, and mix with a small metal whisk. Then I add 1 tablespoon of milled flax seeds and whisk them in. The seeds make it a better consistency to drink, as it's thicker, and also gives it a slightly nutty flavour. Result: I can now drink this straight down without stopping and without the back of my throat getting dry. The other benefits are as stated: I'm stronger and feel fitter, there's no lactose and no other nasties or sugars. For a good source of protein without unnecessary additives, I can only recommend that you try this, as it certainly works well for me.Goes Well With:Cinnamon and milled flax seeds (linseed).
My nutricianist recommended this for me, as I couldn't tolerate whey protein and he said that this is just what I need at the moment. It tastes fine and does what it's supposed to...fills me up and strengthens me. Also, for those of you who do weights, exercise etc and need extra protein, this is one of the few that doesn't contain all the nasty chemicals and sugar. What's the point of exercise if you don't watch what you're putting into your body?? It's a little grainy but how long does it take to knock back a drink? If you want what's best for you, try it. Excellent. Very easy to mix and virtually tasteless. Excellent value compared to store bought versions. Will buy again :-)
First of all this tastes foul. It isn't helped by the fact that it comes unflavoured (MyProtein please introduce flavours!!!!) and it isn't the best to mix. Having said that, the reason we have 'vegan' protein is because we are intolerant to whey (like me) or vegan and also, the main reason, to aid in the building of muscle. So the fact that it has 24g of protein and virtually no fat or carbs is great. It's also fairly cheap. So either close your eyes and chug it back or mix it with other stuff. I put oats and peanut butter in my morning and night shake and it tastes a whole lot better. To sum up: if I could have chocolate cream or banana or cookie whey protein I would, but I'm gonna have to make do with this for the health benefits and the impressive protein content per scoop. Goes Well With:Anything. Put anything and everything in.
This is the best alternative to whey from what I've read, although it's been a bit of a shock to the taste buds. I recommend it purely for its benefits, and reasonably high protein content, but if you struggle drinking vile tastes this isn't for you. I've tried mixing with banana, yoghurt, honey, almond milk and berries in a smoothie, but all I've ended up with is a disgusting grey/green gloop. You can try mixing with more honey, sugar, ice cream, chocolate powder or whatever, it might then be drinkable, but that would defeat the object of being healthy, which is why I got this protein in the first place. If MyProtein could create a drinkable, tasty rice protein I would definitely buy again, but at this stage I can't see myself doing so.Goes Well With:A hardy set of taste buds, and a manly attitude.

Been using the pea protein for a while with good results, so decided to try the brown rice protein as it's amino acid profile complements the profile of pea protein. I've been using half a scoop of each powder and whacked it down in a shaker with a good amount of water...the less water in the shaker the harder it is to mix I found. Taste wise it's a bit weird, not particularly nice but mixed with the pea protein it's a lot better. I can definitely identify with the gritty texture it leaves on your teeth afterwards which isn't pleasant, but it's good protein when all said and done and it definitely helps feed my muscles with good stuff to help repair and recover. My advice is man up, and get it down, for a non dairy protein coupled with pea protein you can't go far wrong with this product.Goes Well With:Pea protein isolate and water and the ability to ignore your taste buds!
I use Brown Rice Protein as a filler in homemade low carb bread, it's easy to mix with other dry materials.
If you are considering buying this product, it is because you have read up on the benefits of supplementing your diet with a plant-based protein supplement and not animal product like whey/dairy. It certainly is not because of the taste, which I can assure you is much worse than you could ever possibly imagine, without having taste it. There is a strong similarity with a sandy/dust that you might find in a hot climate in texture, appearance and smell. Generally i hold my nose and drink as quickly as i can, but i have not yet found a workaround for the mixture clinging to the back of my throat and almost suffocating me. The taste tends to linger, unless followed by a banana or other sugary fruit (good post workout). But, i do feel less bloated than with whey and am certainly having less stomach problems than I did using whey. I generally feel a bit better, lighter and cleaner than when i drank whey protein. Has to be the best Vegan Protein Powder on the market. very high in protein per serving low in fat and carbs and most important when looking at vegan proteins low in SALT!!!!! no one likes to bloat. A lot of people have mentioned the taste of this powder and true its is not the best tasting and also has a slight powdery texture while drinking. But if you pair it with some of the Flavdrops available on here it becomes very easy to consume and from my experience actually quite enjoyable. also try adding one scoop into smoothies also a great way to hide the taste Try this in a blender: 300-350 ml Soy or Almond milk 2 frozen bananas 150g of strawberries 2-3 Dates (For the sweetness) 1 scoop of brown rice protein. Pretty inoffensive taste, good amount of protein, bit cheaper than whey. Mixes fine and thrown in with two scoops of instant oats and then necked, it does the job. Definitely tastes better than pea protein but even that isn't too bad when mixed with oats. Got this and pea protein because I wanted to reduce the amount of whey/dairy I was having, just have whey after workouts now instead of every day, then rotate rice and pea protein in the mornings. Everything in moderation. Seems to be working okay so far!Goes Well With:Instant oats and water
I had such high hopes for this protein! I love the Soy Protein Isolate but worried about the potential health impact of too much soy in the diet (breast cancer?) so wanted another vegetarian dairy free alternative. I read the previous reviews warning of flavour and texture but i felt they were generally positive and i'm used to unflavoured protein and don't mind texture. Well I was wrong and this beat me! The texture is very weird, gritty but also somehow chalky. The flavour is not pleasant. I mix with Almond milk, oats and banana and i couldn't even get half way through it. Flav drops didn't help either unfortunetly. I think if it was either texture or taste i could get on with it, but both together it's not possible. I don't think i'd even want to make protein bars with it. Big fail on this one for me i'm afraid, but i'm grateful for the chance to try alternatives. Goes Well With:Nowt
Tastes very neutral, it mixes without lumps, but it keeps having a gritty texture. It's like it doens't get rid of this texture even after 5 minutes of mixing with a high end blender! The Vegan Blend, to my surprise, is a lot better in this regard. Would recommend it, it's still a good product. Goes Well With:Anything! Water Plant-based milks Smoothie
Discussing the taste is ridiculous as it's 'all a matter of tast'. Some will like it and some won't. I like the taste, it's quite a nutty flavour. I mix it, using a fork, in a glass with HMB and water. The only thing about it is, it's a bit gritty. Goes Well With:Water
I can't really comment on the taste of the powder alone as I mix it's with a few other ingredients in a blender. Before buying I read a number of reviews that said it was impossible to cover up the taste regardless of what it's mixed with, I haven't found it to be an issue. I will usually blend a scoop with 2 frozen banana, pure fine oats, 2 tspn MP organic cacao powder and some peanut butter if I need extra fat in my macros. Haven't experienced any of the gritty texture that's been mentioned in previous reviews. I would definitely recommend this product instead of other whey powders on the market. It doesn't give that bloating feeling that you can sometimess get. My recovery has been as good as if not better as when I've used other powders in the past. Amazing to add into most smoothies as you can't taste it but as mentioned it can be quite chalky and I've noticed it makes me a bit gassy unless I put it in my high powered blender for about 4 mins to the point where it becomes warm and emulsified. Goes Well With:Any beans as it makes its amino profile complete, blended oats and banana to mask the chalkiness.
