    Overview

    Xanthan gum is one of the most effective sources of dietary fibre available. It can be used to add texture to food without the need for gluten and is completely non toxic. Xanthan gum is produced through the fermentation of sugars by the Xanthomonas Campestris bacteria, and is a bio polymer that is structured like cellulose.

    Many people find that having fibre rich diet can be a struggle, particularly if they do not eat a high proportion of fruit and green vegetables. Xanthan gum, in supplement form, adds bulk to the diet and acts as a substitute for normal fibre.

    For anyone that is unable to eat gluten as part of their diet this is a suitable alternative to use in cooking. Generally, foods eaten as part of a gluten free diet lack texture and thickness. Adding Xanthan gum to cooking sauces will increase the bulk of foods without adding a significant amount of calories.

    There are no side-effects to eating additional Xanthan gum over an extended period of time, and it is a useful dietary supplement for people suffering from IBS. Consuming Xanthan gum will increase the intake of fibre to improve digestive transit, without the need to eat starchy foods that can increase pain.

    Suggested Use

    Add 300-350ml of water or fruit juice into our shaker (the less liquid the thicker the shake will be). Then add two thirds of an MP small scoops (2g), shake and consume. Use 1-2 times daily or as required. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

      Oh wow.. not only makes a teaspooon of this stuff my cacao-milk nice and thick and smooth, I just added a teaspoon to some cake-creme powder. I was supposed to add whipped cream, but a teaspoon of xanthan made the stuff go like a super thick gel in seconds, making the best cake-spread for a low-fat cake.. My mixer couldn't even mix it anymore.

      This stuff is great for use in the kitchen for thickening sauces. I use it in place of cornflour when on a keto diet. Just sprinkle some into your sauce and you'll have a nice, smooth, thick sauce in minutes and up your fibre intake into the bargain. Win Win situation. :) I've not tried it in shakes yet because the MP Impact Whey is fine without it.

      Really unpleasant stuff, really slimy and not great. I found a packet of this stuff I bought from MP ages ago so decided to start using it again as the seal on it had not been broken and it was within date. It really is a hastle to use and a lot worse than the other Fibre sources available. It would be so much better to stick it in caps as suggested, but I found it made my stomach bad and my motions so will probably not finish the pack. This is a weird source of protein and not one I will be continuing with.

      I ordered this product having heard of its ability to provide fibre easily for someone who is unable to consume wheat and gluten. The 1kg bag will last me for a long time, great price. It is really good for thickening my shakes as well which is brilliant too.

      Awesome for making my shakes thicker, needed to experiment with the dosage a bit, didn't get the same results as others (i needed to use more to get the desired result) but at this price who cares!? My only beef with it is that it can be a bit of a nightmare to mix - shaker doesn't desolve it properly - may invest in a blender..either that or make stirring my shakes with a fork part of my warm up...clockwise aaaaaaand anti-clockwise. Great product MP.

      Xantham Gum is strange stuff, it's a very fine, tasteless powder that lives up to the usual high standards expected from MyProtein, however it's difficult to handle and I'm not sure how much use it is as a dietary supplement. The powder is so fine that it gets everywhere and the slightest contact with water produces a sticky slime. Adding 2g in 400ml of shake makes the whole thing too thick to drink. I found that around 5g gave a shake the thickness of Frij milkshakes but the texture was still slimey. Capping it was a bit of a struggle due to the fineness of the powder and because it's so light, it means having to neck a lot of capsules to get the desired amount. I found that mixing it with sugar free jelly produced the best results and I was able to consume about 3g of fibre per serving, so I consumed 3 servings over 2 days. This produced excellent results as far as my performance in the toilet is concerned, let's leave it at that. So, if you're having trouble getting enough fibre in your diet and your number twos are suffering as a result, Xantham gum will sort you out. It's not very palatable though and is a lot of messing about, other fibre sources are much less hassle.
