Overview

Milk Protein Smooth is a milk protein concentrate derived from ultra-filtered skim milk. This advanced milk protein is an excellent source of native casein and whey proteins in the same ratio as found naturally in milk (casein 80% and whey 20%). Milk Protein Smooth provides an extremely smooth consistency with an extremely clean and neutral taste.

Our Milk Protein Smooth is produced using the latest ultra low heat treatment techniques to avoid any denaturing.

Due to the production process, no instantising agents are required to provide the excellent mixing and consistency of Milk Protein Smooth. The taste is extremely neutral, even more so than other milk protein products, making it extremely versatile where it can be consumed in various forms including; protein shakes, smoothies and yoghurts.

Milk Protein Smooth is absorbed slowly by the stomach allowing a tapered supply of amino acids to the muscle over a prolonged period of time. This makes Milk Protein Smooth the ideal protein supplement for between meals and before bed. During sleep, the body is normally starved of nutrients as it is impractical to consume food. However, as milk protein provides a sustained supply of protein it allows your body to avoid muscle breakdown during the night.

Milk Protein Smooth has an excellent amino acid profile and is particularly high in branched chain amino acids (BCAA's). It is also extremely low in fat whilst also providing an excellent source of calcium. This product is also Non GMO.

Milk Protein Smooth is 78% Micellar Casein, the rest is made up from whey protein and bioactive proteins.

The amino acid profile can be found at the bottom of the page under 'Certificates'.

As a protein product its fine, however, the mixability is very poor and to get all the powder to mix you need a large amount of water. As this is a slow release protein best used before bed, the amount of water you need to mix it with to get it to a drinkable state means that you will be up in the night to go to the toilet. Won't get this again as i hate interuppted sleep. Will stick with a big evening meal and a whey shake first thing after getting up.

Theoretically a great product; I have already seen and felt benefits from having a slower release protein overnight. The mixability however is poor, when drinking the product, it tastes as if the powder has not actually dissolved

Delivery was quick (within 2 days). Although i haven't had time to test out its effectiveness as of yet, i can say that the taste is great, better than most other protein i've tried. I even got the latte flavour and its really nice. Mixes in seconds. Great product!

Mixing wise it comes out quite frothy - no surprise seeing as its milk protein. Taste wise it is fine, not the best but fine. Results wise it is the best. Insides feel healthy and it doesn't make you stink like other proteins. Unless you can afford premium unheated whey protein then this stuff is the best you will get.

I'm FINALLY ready to review this product... I'd wanted to order casein for a while... If you're clued up about proteins you'll know why casein makes more sense than whey for a meal replacement. So I jumped in - 4kg unflavoured. This is the weirdest product I've used, but I finally don't mind it... I tried initially 250ml soya milk + 50g powder. One shake and it actually went solid - literally no longer a liquid. Weird. The instructions say 300ml per 25g, and it's advice not to be ignored. So now I go in with 500ml soya milk + 50g powder, and it mixes ok. If blending in oats / fruit / peanut butter, it goes a lot thicker than anything else I've used, BUT if you let it settle the froth subsides it's not so bad. I actually quite like the taste of the unflavoured, once you get the consistency right. It feels a bit chalky in the mouth, but it tastes a bit like semolina? It's growing on me, anyway. I think a bit of cocoa or something and it'd be awesome. Next time I'm getting flavoured, no question. So... Get it right, and it's fine. Get it wrong, and it's the grossest thing out.

Extremely easy to mix, so easy infact its possible to mix with just a spoon. I bought the unflavoured version so i could mix it with my unflavoured myprotein impact whey and nesquick chocolate powder. It does have a "grainy" texture when mixed, but its like the difference between smooth orange juice and juice with bits, nothing bad about it and the people complaining aren't seeing what this product really is about. It is the best casein product i have used, and ive tried a lot of different ones. Perfect before bed, and waking up i don't feel sick due to being hungry. I am extremely happy i have now found a casein product i can use all the time. Myprotein powders in general seem to ve extremely high quality, and mixing them are a doddle, i don't even have a plastic grate thing in my shaker and it mixes with just a few shakes and there is ZERO parts unmixed. Fantastic product!

Just had my first shake of this before bed tonight - Strawberry Cream - First impressions were that, well, the taste is not ideal, and it was a little frothy. I think maybe I've just been too spoilt with Impact Whey Protein because the taste of that is really moreish. End of the day though, it's got to taste a darn sight better than cottage cheese before bed! I figured I suffer the most overnight because of late nights and a considerable gap between my last meal and bed so I'm sure this will be effective enough to provide me with those aminos overnight.

it is ok. Vanilla tastes better than choc mint and has more protein. It is less artificial tasting. Not quite true vanilla flavour but bit like baby milk with vanilla, very bearable. If you can not drink it you must be a real pussy and give up the gym. I was using 100% gold standard products but they are more expensive and have the same ratios of what you need. They do taste bloody nice though. After using MP products for awhile totally used to taste. mixes ok with 400ml ish of water, normal temp.. Then add a little more water to rinse and finish the little bit left. The only thing that annoyed me was no free mixer or even a scoop with 275 in my trolley a few days later free kilo when you spend over 53 pound wtf is this bs. Look aftter your customers.

Wanted to add a slow release protein into my diet and after looking at many products decided to try Milk Protein Smooth. Reading comments like messy, goes every where and the taste is bad all I have to say is they have mistaken the product with another. Mixing is fine, use a shaker with a mixer coil leave to stand for a few minutes and consume. Taste doesn't bother me, no worse then eating cottage cheese! great product at a great price....

I use to have the milk protein prior to this and that was fantastic worked well, Anyhow i thought id try this product this time, i have been using it for 2 weeks now and have say its awfull i cannot understand how people like this product , the taste is awfull you just cannot get used to it tried with skimmed milk, and cold water, all you can taste is the smoothness of it, mixabillity you have a shaker these days put you scoop in ans shake simple, this product not quite froths for britain! other reviews suggest mixing with fork, come on guys that was done 15- 20 years ago.and all you feel is bloated at night, does it work ? really don't care if you wanna taste something horrible drink froth and stay bloated .give the product a go .otherwise don't waste your money trust me stick to the milk protien for bed time.

I used it round the clock, as it has 20% of whey so it could work as a post workout as well, with a bit of carbs. As to mixabilty it probably won't be any better bearing in mind what is made from, but some people over here a right bunch of queens. Oh, there is a froth in my shake, oh no..seriously? Oh tastes aweful when unflavored...really? It tastes of pretty much nothing, like skimmed milk mixed with water. Add peanut butter and/or bananas/frozen or fresh blueberries. I wish you could try to mix and drink some protein drinks from the '90s. If you don't like it this product go back to Whey and stop bitching like women. Summarisng - good product, good value, well recomended for straight men, as to rest - well... :]

Unnecessary product. Hard to mix and very foamy. Taste alright (I've got the smooth chocolate one) when mixed with water. I found it much worse than Total milk and whey protein, and if you're looking for something similar to this I would definitely go for Total milk and Whey Protein instead of this.

*DO NOT SHAKE - STIR HARD WITH A FORK* This solves the mixing issues and leaves you with no nasty froth. Once past that hurdle, this is the best night-time protein I've used. Some I've used have quite a rich taste that leaves you feeling a bit bloated out for bed - this product doesn't have that problem. It's also cheap and works well! If taking zinc before bed then space taking them 30mins apart (else the calcium with stop optimum absorption of the zinc. Nice.

Great protein shake. It mixes easy and its nice and thick. I got the unflavoured version. You might wanna get ta flavoured version though as I can see this unflavoured version being a chore after a while. I got my batch for a late night protein drink before bed. It does the trick. I will be buying again. Maybe try vanilla flavour next time. :)

I bought this as I work nights and wanted something to help stop from waking up due to extreme hunger. I love this stuff, it mixes well and goes a bit like a fluffy milkshake. I bought the unflavoured and when mixed with milk it doesn't really taste of anything apart from milk, if you don't like it, grow a pair and down it. As for effectiveness it does the trick for me, in fact I forgot to have it this morning and I woke up starving and didn't sleep properly. Would highly recommend this to anyone especially if, like me, you need a protein shake to keep you full whilst you're asleep.

I bought this powder because I wasnt getting nowhere near enough protein before going too sleep and needed something that wouldnt be metabolised quickly. 8 hours is a long time for protein synthesis, and feeding your body with a tapered release of protein is good for anti-catabolism. I chose unflavoured because didnt want any of the junk like sucralose which isnt good for your body. There are a lot of health risks associated with artificial sweeteners that no-one knows about. Anyway I mix with skimmed milk, and it tastes like.....MILK.. I dont know what people below me are smoking but they must hate the taste of milk. Seriously some people are just wimps they go gym lift weights and then start crying about the taste of their protein shakes. Im only 20 started working out few weeks ago and this is one of my first few supplements im takking alongside reflex whey and mp eaa. Lets hope the nutritonal values are correct because to me it smells just like milk powder which could be a good thing or a bad thing. The only downside is it gets too frothy and the pouch it comes with is irritating. The resealable mechanism takes ages to get right so fix it myprotein

Good product to use before bed or between meals. I've not try'ed the flavours but the unflavoured is perfectly drinkable, not a treat to drink but it does the job. I mix with water but find it needs alot more water than for other protein's as it can be quite thick (not an issue just an observation).

DO NOT BUY UNFLAVOURED! Now I am a tough guy. When it comes to downing things or eating things that taste like S*** I just don't care, but not everyone is as awesome as I am. BUT. This stuff is disgusting. I don't know why I got unflavoured. There is a slight difference in the morning when I get up I don't feel as "Empty" which is good. I down as much as I can each night to get rid of this stuff faster, so if you buy unflavoured man up and don't be a pussy. Drink the stuff. Seriousy though kids, stay away from unflavoured.

Got the Mint Choc flavour having had the same of True Whey and enjoyed it, have to say though that the Mint Choc Milk doesn't taste the same at all...it's drinkable but no way near as nice. Will order a different flavour next time. It is a bit of a pain to mix but if you decant it to a bottle after mixing and leave overnight the powder seems to soak in a bit more and lose it's grittiness...so just have to be organised and get them prepared the day before!
  • Vincent Morris (24/05/2011)
  • Review:
First of all, the mixability is absolutely shocking. You can still feel the powder texture while drinking it after youve mixed it in and it generates so much froth that im actually unsure of exactly how much protein Im consuming with the excess froth left over afterward. Having said that, the taste is ok, not great, but not bad, and it feels that I am less hungry in the mornings when I wake up. I also feel like it has slowed catabolism, albeit maybe not entirely, but overall the product is good value for money. If you are someone who is really bothered about good-mixing products I would avoid this one as it really doesn't mix well. Along with the other reviews, the powder is quite messy, but some people are exaggerating about how messy it gets. If you are careful and have some common sense it doesn't go everywhere. In terms of giving a long-term gains opinion, I think I will have to review this again in a few weeks time, but at the moment it appears this supplement is working (at an affordable price).

IT MIXES FINE! I have the chocolate one, and with water it's horrible, but with 200ml of skimmed milk its fine. It does froth A LOT but I've found if you make it up 30mins or so before you want it then the froth goes and you're left with a nice think good-tasting shake - a McProtein !!!! Effectiveness is always hard to measure, unless you have 99 friends willing to participate in some placebo testing, but I will keep using it as I do notice quick recovery if I take it before bed.

Very fustrating...Can mix quite decent - sometimes - with 200ml + of milk, however with water it's just a nightmare...I'm cutting at the moment so it's with water and i dread having to mix this stuff up before i go to bed. Majority of the time im left with half of it still at the bottom of the shaker and the rest of the liquid just turns rapidly to bubbly froth. Please consider altering this protein power to an easily mixable product or i might look elsewhere....

Excellent product have now been buying for a couple of years (when it used to be called Instant Milk Protein). Does a fantastic job as a slow release protein. Top tip - take 2 scoops and a large mug full of water and mix both in a proper shaker. Then remove lid of shaker, place in microwave and nuke it for 1 min 30. Et voila - hot chocolate. Delicious. Make sure you shake when cold rather than hot - if hot your shaker will do a decent impression of a hand grenade.

I love this powder. It's extremely fine, and without care it erupts in clouds of airborne dust. Mixes well with anything, but I've discovered that if you mix it in a small shaker bottle with a very low ratio of milk, it creates a wonderful mousse that is delicious, smooth and bubbly! Never thought eating vanilla mouse would actually be good for me...

This stuff is perfect, cheap and a good mix of fast and slow releasing protein, only problem is it forms a thick layer of foam upon shaking however this can easily be prevented by adding a small amount of instant oats to the mix, leaving you with no froth and no waste!

This product can be messy if not handled properly but It does eventually mix with water but seems to be fairly hydrophobic. I reckon that this product's slow absorbtion profile might have something to do with this. I purchased the vanilla flavour and personally I find it to be a bit overpowering but still drinkable. The most important thing is that this stuff works (efficacy is key, taste and texture really shouldn't matter). It' is metabolised very slowly, I have had problems with other 'slow burn' products as they keep me awake at night when I have my pre-sleep shake (as they get metabolised too fast). This product does not and seems to get absorbed and metabolised slowly over 4-5hrs. If you are looking for a slow burn protien then this is your product.

As other reviewers have noted, the old 'casein' milk protein powder had a slightly grainy texture, even when mixed thoroughly. It took a bit of getting used to, but ultimately I found it completely drinkable. There were a lot of negative reviews, though, because people expected it to be as smooth as whey. So I guess that's why myprotein introduced this product. Sure, it's smooth, but it's not very nice. Mixing it in a shaker takes a LOT of shaking if you don't want huge gobs of un-dispersed powder in your mouth. Yes, it gets everywhere too. The worst part for me is the foaming. Even with a little shaking, half the volume of the container turns to thick, thick foam, which doesn't even come out of the drinking hole. The foam never turns back to liquid and is extremely unpleasant to drink if you open up the shaker to get at it. On the whole it's not unusable, but I'm looking forward to finishing my bag and I don't think I'll be buying it again.

As others have commented, the powder goes everywhere. Be prepared with a tea towel to wipe down your clothes and worktop after putting this in the mixer. I use Impact Whey Protein too post-workout, shaken up with water in a small plastic beaker and it mixes perfectly. However the first time I tried the same with this stuff, I just got a beaker full of undrinkable fluff. I now use a proper full sized shaker for this one with a bit of milk along with the water. Anyone with froth problems should try that as it makes a big difference. I never got to try the old milk protein that others have talked about so I'm stuck with this one and hope that MP will listen to customer demand. There is no need for it to be so finely ground because the Impact Whey Protein isn't, yet mixes perfectly and isn't so messy and wasteful. As for flavours, I'd prefer a better choice - Impact Whey Protein has a bigger choice of 10 flavours.

Reviewer 'Edward' is correct. I never used the previous formulation but the mixability of this product is not to MP's usual standards. When opening the pouch after shaking (or not) powder goes everywhere. Also when actually mixing too much becomes froth which does not settle at all, it seems a lot would be lost when this happens.

The older formulation was superior. This is too finely ground. It forms cloulds above the bag with the slightest movement and gets everywhere. It doesn't mix well. Too much waste during preparation and in the shaker after you've finished. Please reintroduce the non-smooth option to your range!

MP's milk protein is certainly better than it used to be - as others have said, it is a very fine flour-like powder. The fineness gives the dry powder a nasty consistency, but also means it mixes incredibly well - even using a shaker you get none of the grainy/lumpy texture you get with some milk proteins. Frankly, taste shouldn't be a big factor if you're going to use milk protein, but this one is fine. Choc smooth shaken with water and nothing else is perfectly pleasant - not delicious, but very drinkable, which is all you can hope for from milk protein really.

This was just awful, the idea of milk protein is great and the idea of slow digesting casein is great, but the foam, i mean… This is undrinkable in my opinion. I would have given this product one star, ok half a star, if it wasn't for the fact that after sitting around in my garage for 5 months pretty much full (after messing around and trying to make the product drinkable) i managed to give it a purpose, baking!. I've made several mixed nut protein bars with the milk protein and thats worked well. However i doubt when people by this they have baking in mind.

Put powder in a bowl with your favorite flavoring (I like vanilla. Strawberry is decent too). Add water, stirring until it comes the consistency of a custard or american style pudding. Even better is to make it slightly thin. Then throw in the freezer for 30+ minutes to get something very similar to ice cream. Credits to Martin at leangains for the pudding idea.

I had hoped that this serves as a good-night-shake without making much trouble but I almost had to use a blender to get the clumps out. Very foamy and the vanilla has at first a very subtle taste, but a terrible almost lemonlike aftertaste. Can't and won't recommend.

I actully really like this, it different to anything i have had before. Initally i was not too fond of it but as time has gone on I have started to really like the taste. I will be ordering some more soon. It turns into a mouse that mixes with ice is really nice. I normally make this and leave it in the fridge for 10 min. It turns into a nice thick shake. On the downside it can get a bit messy when using it but nice to have before bed.

I always bought the old version, instant milk protein which was great.. i was disappointed when i saw that this had been discontinued but never the less i thought i'd give this a go.. its terrible, like everyone else sais its a mess and gets everywhere, thats no what bothers me.. the shake just turns into a froth which usually indicates cheap ingredients. Myprotein is the nuts but this product is awful!! Sort it out lads, bring back the old one!!

Far more drinkable than whey protien, feels comfortable to drink, mixes well - yes it is fine powder, but not a problem. I just have mine with water, some fine oats, and brown sugar, and maybe vanlilla flavour. Easy. And 3 kg for a little over 30 quid... impressed.
  • Goes well with which Myprotein products:
I dont understand why people complain about it being so 'hard to mix'.. I just mix mine with a fork in a pint glass... its no big deal...just stir it a bout a bit, add a little more water, make sure the bits are all stirred in.. wats the big problem?

I take MP Whey protein as well as this. The taste of the strawberry flavour is pretty poor, especially after being used to the taste of Whey but it is very effective and does work. At the end of the day it's all about whether it works as a supplement or not and it's not about the taste. Putting up with the taste once a day is not a hard thing to do if your dedicated and know the benefits.

Had previously used the Instant Milk Protein which was a brilliant pre-bed shake and mixed really well. this is awful. The powder is very fine and gets everywhere when you open the packet and then it doesn't mix well at all. First poor product i've ever had from MP.

cheaper than some branded casein proteins with a higher protein / lower carbohydrate content - nice one MP. strawberry flavour seems a little bland, but who cares, eh? i add 35g into 400mls water and 150mls skim milk. going to get a bigger bag next time.

Have been using MP for a bit now, and never had anything bad to say about a product...BUT this stuff is deserves a knocking! The powder is super fine, so gets all over the place (and very static so it sticks!). It is a nightmare to mix, I have never had a protein powder which froths so much, its daft how much this stuff throths. However, it does taste good (vanilla) and does the trick. Just wich they hadn't changed the old formula which mixed fine!

Bought the unflavoured one as it was cheaper and I tend to not care how something tastes if it's good for me. Won't be doing it again. Definetely needs some kind of flavour to it, because "unflavoured" mixed with water tastes simply bad. Really throthy by the end of the shake to the point where I'm nearly gagging. Powder gets everywhere aswell. Good product but I'll definetely be getting banana flavour or something next time.

So far so good. I didnt wake up at night hungry, and even till the morning. however the powder is too messy. whenever i open the pouch, powder's like everywhere but it was fine if handled carefully. not too sweet so it feels good after drinking but the serving is a bit too much, i think. i usually feel uncomfortably full after that so i have to add less water and it becomes kind of like mousse. this is actually good! 5 stars

This is a good product and doesn't taste as chalky as some other casein mixes I've tried. Both the banana and milk chocolate flavours are excellent. For those of you having problems with foaming: mix it VERY gently. I was having this problem too at the start because I was chucking it into the blender cup and shaking away - but this stuff is so easily dissolvable that you really only have to swill it around in the shaker for it to mix. Doing this avoids the foamy build up. The only thing that would make this product better is the price of the old IMP :)

I was very happy with the instant milk protein which mixed very easily with just a fork. This one is lumpy and the fine powder goes everywhere. The flavour is OK but has a sort of sterilised after taste - like long life milk. I also find it harder to digest - sits on the stomach. Please stop changing the products all the time. I like to order in bulk but its a pain when you find you are getting something different from what you expected.

I just tried the new Milk Protein Smooth, and didn't like it. First the powder is messy and gets everywhere. It mixes really foamy.\n\nThe old product was much better, slightly more grainy but mixes properly in a shaker. The old Chocolate Mint Flavour was excellent.\n\nIs the old Milk Protein Mint Chocolate available at all?

This is the first time I have ever got the milk protein and I must say I am really happy with it.\n\nMixed with just water it tastes excellent and I use this and pour it into my bran flakes and makes a really nice chocolatey cereal!\n\nThe only bad thing I would say is due to the fineness of the powder (feels like flour) if you havent got a tub to put it into then it can get really messy.\n\nOther than that a great product.

  • Raspberry flavour this time (09/04/2010)
  • Review:
I've had raspberry flavoured IW before and, whilst the taste was very good, it wasn't 'blow yer brains out' amazing - unlike this stuff! This really is the dogs (I reckon milk proteins will always taste nicer than whey because of the nature of the source something made from milk is always gonna taste like milkshake, right...?)\n\nThis is to R Edgar: - how're ya mixing yours, mate? I find the product to be very aptly named (I have an MP shake (a small pink girly one...)\n\nI'm just I've got samples of strawberry, unflavoured and vanilla (because that's all MP (wot's all that about then, MP...? Get yer act together!) offer. I want to try choc mint, but I'm reluctant to shell out on a whole kg, as I've had choc mint proteins in the past and they have, to put it mildly, been rank (I recall one UBOSS powder which, instead of tasting remotely chocolatey and minty, tasted like those foam bananas you get in pick 'n' mix selections - know the ones I mean...?) \n\nAnyone tried the choc mint and can report back on flavour?\n\nMix this 50/50 with vanilla or choc smooth (or add some cocoa) dark choc raspberry - yum!

  • good stuff (03/04/2010)
  • Review:
this is great stuff, much better than the original stuff which was also great as well. this stuff, although creating a relatively thick shake, does not do so as much as the former version of this. just a word of warning, this stuff is rather messy because it is like a chalky powder though it doesn't taste of this. As already mentioned, when mixed with milk, there is no variance in the taste it tastes just like milk, so that's a big bonus for a guy like me who cannot take whey protein. also, it foams a lot if you don't have the right technique - to combat this, simply put in HALF the milk serving you intend to use, and HALF the powder serving you intend to use in the shaker (I use MP shaker), mix it up, then open the shaker and add the remainder of the powder and milk. this eradicates nearly all the foam - if you don't do this (or something like this) it turns extremely foamy. \nall in all, an amazing product which will now become the cornerstone of my protein intake.

I basically brown-nosed the IMP last year, stating that it could not be beaten - well, it has!\n\nThis product is so much more of an improvement on the IMP stuff you wouldn't believe... So much so, I don't mind paying the extra that seems to have been added on...You pay for what you get because this is quality. \n\nWhen mixed with milk (unflavoured) it blends so well that it tastes just like milk, exactly like milk in my opinion - this is good for me because I HATE the taste of ANY whey shake, or flavouring for that matter.\n\nAmazing product, I'm really pleased with you MP chaps and lasses, amazing job.\n\n\nNOTE: It froffs when first mixed, let it settle and then there's no froff.

  • DO NOT purchase smooth choc (11/03/2010)
  • Review:
If, like me, you're a chocoholic! The MPI was out of stock in smooth choc, so I took a gamble and purchased this - when MP said this was improved, they weren't lying! Instant mixing, velvety smooth - and it tastes like PROPER CHOCOLATE!!! The MPI I had before is Scotchbloc in comparison (dunno whether you can still get it - it was EVILLY nasty choc-flavoured cake covering).\n\nMix this up, fairly thick, stick it in the fridge for a bit, and you can imagine you're eating melted ice-cream! \n\nI have plans for this: - protein mousse (just add milk and an egg white, whisk and stick in the fridge (add other flavours to taste got some orange extract in the cupboard so, I fancy adding that and a teaspoon of cocoa (to make it a little darker).\nTonight, though, it's gonna be orange hot choccie! This stuff has potential (protein choccie cake...? Anyone fancy? Would it work?)\n\nAnyway - chocoholics avoid, unless you have a VERY large bank balance it's all I can do to stop myself eating it dry from the pouch! I thought I could spin this bag out a fortnight (I only bought a kilo, because you know what it can mean when a company says it's improved a product - it's worse than the original. MP has a real winner here. Raspberry for me next (when it's in stock!) This won't last out the week at this rate! \n\nYUM!!
