Cardio and weightlifting go hand in hand, one compliments the other. However, cardio is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it.

For those who love it, fitting it into your workout routine and staying motivated to keep doing it is easy. For the rest of us it's a different story, especially with winter creeping up on us; it's much more tempting to hide away in the warmth of the gym.

Here are some tips to keep your cardio motivation running high over the winter!

#1 Visualise it

You can find motivation anywhere. Use Instagram and Twitter  to your advantage and find accounts with motivational pictures and quotes that will inspire you to lace up your trainers.

Alternatively go old school and pin pictures and quotes to a pin board to help you visualise what you're working for.

#2 Enter a Race

I'm not saying you need to sign up for a marathon, but signing up for a race is a surefire way to keep you on track cardio-wise.

Sign up for a Santa dash or a 5KM-10KM race and keep your eyes on the prize. With race day looming ahead, you'll find the motivation to get out there and pound the pavement!

#3  Get yourself a Buddy

You're much less likely to cancel on a cardio date if you've made plans with someone to go for a run.

Running with a buddy can also bring out the competitor inside of you - you'll race towards that PB!

#4  Reward Yourself

Put £1 in a pot every time you go for a run and, once you've reached a certain amount, spend it on something nice.

You could buy yourself some running socks or a new sports top - or you could wait a bit longer and buy yourself a new pair of trainers!

#5 Make it Fun

Give yourself challenges - try and catch the person in front of you, spot 10 other runners before you give yourself a break, sprint to the finish line - anything to make it fun.

You can even download apps that are designed to make running fun - turning it into a game to reach your goals!

#6 Get Motivated with Pre-workout

If all else fails, grab some motivation in a bottle and drink some pre-workout! Pre workout is a supplement designed to get you "up" for exercising. Always check with the labels, but this is a surefire way to get you fired up when you don't feel up for it.

#7 Get Your Gym Kit On

Even if you just don't feel like going, put your gym kit on.

You'll find it makes you 100% more likely to workout - as you're already dressed for it so you may as well train! You'll be surprised by how motivated you'll feel to get going once getting to the gym.
