I have been working out for a few months now and have tried several other Vegan protein powders including the Vegan Blend and Brown Rice Isolate. All I can say about this product is that it is the best protein I have ever tried. With the other products I would have quicker recovery and my muscles would not ache as much, with this one how ever I am like a son of Zeus reborn to bring his justice down upon the earth. After drinking this for merely one day I stormed into the gym and destroyed my workout. With each rep I let out a roar like a lion as the weights flew up and down like the waves of a violent storm. After leaving I had another shake and felt an immediate effect to my ego and power, so I ran out into the woods. Stripping my clothes off one by one I decided it was time to return to nature and live like a real man. I proceeded to hunt deer and other smaller mammals in the woods, feasting on their still warm corpses like a rabid zombie devouring his meal. On the fourth day I attracted the attention of a bear that was originally the top predator in the woods. He stood on his back legs and let out a vicious roar as he prepared to crush my frail, human body. Little did he know I had the Pea Protein Isolate effects surging through my veins and I leaped forward like a panther. My fist connected with a shattering crack and the bear simply imploded from the amount of power focused down my fist. I am now wearing his skin like a cape as I assert my manly dominance over my wooded domain. 11/10 - no other product will ever come close.Goes Well With:Bear hunters Demi Gods People who wanna lift good
I was a protein powder virgin before trying this, (and not wanting anything animal based with the nasty additives & sweeteners) after much research I decided to give this one a go. Tried with water at first, and on its own it has a very savoury taste exactly lie you would expect if eating powdered dried peas! But second attempt I blended with a banana and water and to my delight the sweetness of the banana balanced the savoury taste of the pea! Now I have it every day with a spoon of peanut butter, organic banana and a spoon of flax seed oil - makes a great tasting thick shake and super healthy too! :-) Am keen to try the hemp powder next and mix in the same way…! Would recommend…! Goes Well With:Water, 1 Banana, Peanut Butter
I like to think I can stomach almost any food but this protein has proved my nemesis. I tried it with absolutely every combination and gagged on most of them. For a while, I held my nose whilst drinking it with orange juice, but it got to the point where I dreaded my daily dose of protein. Just this week though, I have finally hit on 2 ways of mixing it which really work for me and don't taste in the least bit vile. 1) Mix with vegetable soup: you won't even notice its presence. And 2) Mix it with Nesquik banana milkshake powder in a 1:1 ratio and add water to mix: quite remarkably, this is actually pleasant to drink! My protein doesn't need to get tossed in the bin after all!!Goes Well With:Banana milkshake. Soup.
Great protein with good mixability, which helped me recover faster and gain lean muscle weight. I've never had an upset stomach with it, unlike some other proteins. Great value for money!Goes Well With:Creatine
Overall good product but I deducted one star because on the website they say "gluten free" but on the pouch there is sticker which informs you that this produt is manufactured in a facillity that handles "gluten".
As a vegan, to find protein which i can supplement my diet with, leaves me with few options. This protein source is not good on its own as a shake, however I have found it is a brilliant way to make soup full of protein. I make soup full of vegetables to get all the goodness with them, add one to two scoops of protein and then you have a meal with few carbs, lots of nutrients and high protein, which tastes awesome. The pea protein taste merely complements the flavour of the other vegetables, rather than trying to stomach it on its own. I also have Hemp protein mixed in with my porridge with some cinnamon which tastes neat, and a way to make one of the best complete proteins (hemp) taste good.Goes Well With:Vegetable Soup
I'm allergic to diary so I was looking for a plant based protein. I've tried Soy protein from MyProtein before but my body doesn't digest it as good as I wished for. So next on my list was Pea Protein being both cheap and well recommended. It turn out to be an very good product. Wouldn't call it excellent because it taste is a bit off (bearable) this can be countered by adding some honey, cocoa or jam into the mix. Mixibility won't ever reach top diary products but is good enough even with plain water. I would recommend that to anyone strugling with diary or soya any time of the day.Goes Well With:Shake, water, cocoa and life
I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm trying out different non-dairy protein shakes, and by far, this one is the best. It's low in carbs, sugar and high in protein, so is ideal for me, but the one thing I would complain about is its taste. My god...the taste. It's like a nutritionist was asked what texture to give the shake and they walked outside with a mug and scooped out the scummiest pond water, and then engineered it with test subject's tears from the initial taste. It's really that bad. Other than that, I would recommend it - a great product which makes you need to drink about a gallon of water to get rid of the residue in your mouth. Buy some 'Flavdrops' to go with it. It actually improves the taste...by about 1%Goes Well With:Nothing. It's the Devil incarnate.
Oh my days.. I cant cope!! WHEN will they make a non Whey Protein that doesn't give me horrendous gas, sore stomach, bloating bla bla bla?? I was told to try pea protein, the thought make me giggle but after trying it for the first time, I wanted to cry.. Seriously is this the best they could do!!?? it tastes absolutely disgusting.. its gross and has a powered texture even when mixed and the after taste !!! DO NOT let it linger.. down it and ram your face with mint leaves :) There are some good tips on here for mixing and disguising the taste, so I'm getting my lab out and I WILL make it nice, Because the half a bottle of flavour drops I chucked in didn't touch the sides.. Good luck people.. Fingers crossed this one helps though and I will man up and finish the pouch.. urrghhhhGoes Well With:Currently NOTHING..
I'm normally the type of person to avoid following reviews because things work differently for everyone but I have to honestly say that this protein shake is AMAZING. And it's true what previous posters say: blending it with a banana, water and 8 drops of the toffee flav drops results in a pretty good tasting smoothie! The consistency is smooth and not lumpy and I don't feel any nausea or bloating after drinking it. Only been using it for a week so can't comment on the effects, however it's a great source of protein and convenient for after gym. Definitely recommend!!Goes Well With:One banana, 400 ml water, 8 drops toffee flavdrops
I switched to MP about a year ago and used to buy Spectrum 12 until it disappeared from the site, then switch to Iso Pro 97, but somehow that gave me nausea - so finally, I switched to this as whey for me is touch and go when it comes to my stomach. First time I opened the bag I was a bit taken back while transferring it to a screw top tub - using a scoop the protein "stands" straight up on the outer edges of the scoop, and if you touch it with your fingers the powder "pops" and kind of shoots off in any random given direction - talk about "live" food. First off - this protein is EPIC. Like others on here I can feel the difference with DOMS when taking a post-workout shake, and no nausea comes about after drinking. My rep count has also increased and I've got way more energy before an endurance boxing routine. There's also the benefits of pea protein - just as high in protein as whey and a good bit of iron packed into it. Secondly - it tastes AWFUL - I've not tried it yet with bananas and toffee/peanut butter like some have recommended on here, BUT, if you need a quick fix for taste I found out by mistake taking a mentos just before drinking takes the edge off the taste. Other than that you've just gotta man up and down it in one go - no worse than taking medicine.Goes Well With:mentos
I've eaten some truly vile things in my time but this takes the cake for the most disgusting thing I've ever had the misfortune of putting into my mouth. Goes Well With:The bin
I love this protein source. However when taking it on its own straight after a work out I did not rate the taste as it tastes to me like "bog water" (or if any of you have tasted Spirulina it kinda like that but not as bad). However when mixed with other ingredients e.g bananas it tastes much better, it's easily mixed with milks or milk alternatives and is much more appetising Goes Well With:Bananas. Peanut butter. Milk/milk alternatives.
So here's what I think of Pea Protein Isolate after 3 months of use: - It's affordable. (comparitively) - I feel healthier taking this than I would whey. - No gross whey farts. No noticeable negative effect on digestion or bowels. - High protein content. - Mixes fine in my opinion. No protein mixes perfectly every time, but I have no complaints. - Effective: I have noticed as much growth, if not more, than with other protein supplements. - A lot of people have commented on the taste being awful, but I find it fine. I usually have it with milk and a few MyProtein FlavDrops - but I've had it with water and the drops quite often, and just with milk or water a handful of times. I don't treat protein shakes as some kind of tasty milkshake, I have them to supplement my diet, and to me the taste is fine, and actually quite nice with some flavdrops. Is it my favourite alternative protein source? No. I prefer using hemp protein (normally MyProtein's). I prefer most things about hemp protein, and my digestion feels even better than usual. BUT, hemp is quite a lot more expensive, and has a lower protein content. I'd recommend it to anyone willing to try, and I'll buy pea protein again, as its a great price and I'll probably cycle it with hemp protein. Goes Well With:FlavDrops
very good relation price/vegan protein, the taste is definitely the challenge...Goes Well With:almond drink + Gluten free Cereals + dried fruits( that add some natural sugars)
I cycle ten times a week and was losing weight too fast, so on suggestion from a friend I supplement daily with a protein drink after the cycle run. I've used MyProtein Whey before, found it great and was curious to try something else. I've used 5kg of Pea protein over several months now and have found it to be very good for my use. It mixes well with half smoothie half water or just plain water. I like the taste, can happily take it just mixed in water, but I sometimes add in other liquids like fruit smoothies as I mentioned and also coconut cream for it's nutritional benefits and flavour. When left to settle my protein drinks need to be re mixed in the bottle so I don't fill it to the top to make that easy to do. Great product and price from MyProtein, no digestion problems.Goes Well With:Water, Fruit smoothie, coconut cream.
Great product. I love that it is unadulterated with no added extras like sweeteners and other additives that are in the whey protein powders. For someone like me, with a gluten intolerance and chemical sensitivities it is a great way to supplement my diet without suffering any ill effects. Because it isn't flavoured, it isn't the greatest taste in the world, but let's be honest, we've all swallowed worse tasting products in the name of a lot of things. So in the name of gains, I will continue to imbibe this without complaint. When it comes to mixing, I find it depends on what you're mixing it with. As a protein shake first and last thing, I add coconut milk, flaxseed and bcaa and if I mix and drink it straight away it is fine. As an after workout drink, I add oats, bcaa, creatine and water instead of coconut milk if I am taking it to the gym. I have to put the oats in first otherwise the protein powder doesn't mix well after sitting in my shaker for any length of time. As to it's effectiveness, I am a 39 year old woman and I weigh 53KG. I am trying to gain lean muscle mass and drop body fat. I haven't gained any weight in the last 3 months but I have lost a total of 5 inches off my body whilst gaining half inch on my thighs so I am moving in the right direction. I do believe supplementing a mostly clean diet with protein powder twice a day is helping me achieve my goals. Goes Well With:Creatine and BCAA
Pea Protein Isolate is a great all-round supplement for my low-Gluten & low-Dairy diet. It mixes well, even with less liquid, and doesn't get too foamy. The taste is very earthy, which some users might find off-putting, but I'm sure that can adjusted by using flavouring drops or combining with another flavoured supplement - it's never bothered me to be honest, I'm not here for the Teddy Bear's Picnic, just the results, which are great! It works well as a good, solid, base level protein to meet my daily requirements, and combined with a healthy, lean diet is proving to put on some good muscle.Goes Well With:Excellent to cook and/or bake with. Particularly Gluten Free Fruit & Nut Flapjacks, and Gluten Free Choc Brownies. Nom!
Really could not get used to the taste of this. Tastes chalky and just unpleasant no matter what I mixed it with. Got through the whole 5kg pack, but it was like an ordeal. Goes Well With:Nothing.
So a lot of people have commented on the unpleasant taste of this protein, they weren't wrong. It has a strange, savoury flavour and it has a chalky texture which isn't nice. However, another reviewer suggested blending it with a banana and some peanut butter and this actually made it pretty drinkable. Ultimately I've seen good results from it and I've got a far more settled stomach (compared to whey protein). Plus it's a great opportunity to get away from impact whey which is full of sweeteners. Definitely worth a try!
Since becoming vegan I turned to this and the Soy Protein and have to say that this is hands down one of the worst things I've ever tasted. It's very chalky, bitter and doesn't mix as well as the Whey powder. I've tried mixing this with fruit, cocoa, agave syrup and coconut milk, to name a few, but this still tastes awful. Mixing with less liquid to get it down quicker is even worse because it's so thick and chalky XoP Bananas seem to work and also mixing into a soup or stew but this isn't always convenient when you're in the gym.
Well I must admit that the pure taste is awful BUT there is always a way to make things way more delicious. ? just mix it with approx. 15 toffee flavored drops. I bought some berry flavored drops as well but it is not that good in combination with the PPI. Toffee is excellent. So buy the protein with these toffee drops and you will overcome the bad taste :)
I started taking it (with brown rice protein for better amino acid profile) - and have noticed huge improvement from the start. Obviously i was laking protein for the intensity of my workouts. The taste is very floury, but that has to be expected. Mixed with couple bananas Goes Well With:water, bananas
I have been using this protein and soy protein for a number of years now. As a vegan I was finding it difficult to eat enough protein to build muscle without also eating massive amounts of carbs so I started with the pea and soy powders. I blend it with squash and a banana in the morning and shake it up with some squash after a workout - the banana definitely improves it but hey, I'm not drinking it for the taste. I also tried the other vegan proteins, but for me the price and taste/mix-ability of the pea and soy powders make them my favourites. I guess it has been effective as I'm stronger now than I have ever been - which is good.Goes Well With:Orange and mango squash for taste and a banana to give a smooth texture
Works well , don't buy it for the taste because you won't like it .. I blend it with a banana and some cocoa powder for taste . Gentle on your stomach doesn't bloat you . Pretty good all roundGoes Well With:Banana
I don't know what all the bad reviews about taste are. I assume all these reviews are from people who like artificial flavours reducing the protein content up to 5%. The taste is completely fine and it mixes like a dream with no chunks of protein in like some Whey alternative proteins do. People just need to get to grips that its a protein drink that takes about 5seconds to drink. I would definitely recommend it though, a great vegetable protein to counter the amount of meat proteins a diet. Cannot comment on effectiveness at the moment, but great value and easily better than some Whey alternatives.Goes Well With:Chocolate Nesquik or by itself!
Despite plenty of people stating how disgusting this product is, I still bought a 2.5KG bag of it. I mixed it with a banana, some oats, a tablespoon of peanut butter, some rice milk, water and cinnamon and it was one of the best shakes I've ever shake, super smooth as well!!! I havn't tried it on its own yet, but I'm trying to bulk at the moment so wouldn't have it on its own anyway.Goes Well With:(cinnamon, banana, milk, peanut butter)
"It goes down better if you don't try to make it into a sweet shake. I mix to a paste with cold water in a cup, top up from the kettle, then stir in a small amount of low-salt vegetable bouillon. It tastes just like pea cup-a-soup - delicious!"
"No problems with digestion. Will be buying more.\nOf course it would be nice to drink a protein shake that tastes of a children's milkshake but this is not what we are buying.\nI wouldn't personally add juice or some sort of flavourng, I think it makes it worse actually. Best way to drink it is with water and just imagine you have some medical condition and you need to drink this to cure your illness. It works for me!"
positives: -good amino acid profile -non gmo -cheapest vegan protein you can get -80% protein -easy digestion unlike animal proteins negs: -taste is sour. mix it 50/50 with instant oats and you have a delicious meal. -no statement on how its grown -no statement on extraction method Goes Well With:powdered oats
I recently purchased a 2.5kg pouch of this after reading many good things about it. It is effective and does the job, but drinking it isn't the nicest at all. I had to purchase a blender to mix it with things like bananas and berries but it still has a very dry powdery texture and a nasty taste to it. Drinking it on its own is awful, it is bearable and you get more used to it, but definitely would recommend purchasing a blender if you're going to purchase this protein powder.Goes Well With:Milk & Bananas/ Any Berries
I love the fact that the nutrients are amazingly good with this product like really high in protein and low in carbs and fats which is great as I am cutting however. It tastes awful. I cannot stand the taste as it is bland. Although I bought the flavourless bag and tried adding flavour with the Stevia flavour drops and Syrup. It doesn't mask the horrible taste of the protein powder. I have tried other brans of Pea protein with flavour and I will not be using this one again as it has the worst flavour I have ever tasted. Sorry 'MyProtein' Must try harder.Goes Well With:the dustbin
I wouldn't recommend this product because of its awful taste and bad mixability. Otherwise it has a good nutritional profile and price. I'm not that picky when it comes to taste of protein, but the only way I could drink this was mixing it with banana. Hopefully Myprotein will make a flavoured version in the future.Goes Well With:banana
Well, long story short. Been ill due to Rta /accident lost a lot of weight. Also lactose/gluten intolerant. So nothing to lose I thought. Well four day's in and quick review. Rating 4 stars, could go up or down dependant on longer use effectiveness. Taste 3 stars, neither good nor bad. Plain is the best way of describing it. That is on its own with water. Just to let you know, I like peas. Mixability 5 stars, fantastic just great, no grit, no aftertaste. Effectiveness 4 stars, only four days in, and I have gained 3 pounds, changing nothing else but taking this protein shake. After working out. I now use it with toffee and banana flavdrops, I have also used rice and coconut/rice milk. The taste with rice milk and either of these flavours is fantastic, well up to a creamy rich tasting shake. Will keep mixing and we shall see, fruit etc, etc. So not so short after all!. But if you want to regain some weight and hold onto some definition, with a lacto gluten prob give it a go. Another reviewer mentioned that the product is made in a factory that uses gluten products, my stomach could not tell and believe me it would.. Later.Goes Well With:Flavdrops Coconut milk Rice milk
This tastes awful! The only way I can use it is if I cook with it as i still want to use it. The food has to be spicy too, its fine in chilli or Curry's. As for shakes it tastes like the greenest, grassyiest tasting drink you'll ever have. But in all it does what its supposed to. Goes Well With:Cooking it in with spicy foods
I was highly sceptical before using this product. Since I became vegetarian at the beginning of this year I have been trying to cut down my consumption of dairy products whilst maintaining a reasonable level of protein to maintain (not necessarily build) muscle whilst attending the gym. As a result, pea protein was a highly logical change to make. In reading reviews I became increasingly concerned with the reviews regarding taste, however when I decided I happily eat most things without minding the taste I decided that it was worth a shot as a cheap, more sustainable and healthy (in my opinion) alternative. On first trying the product I must admit the taste was different, it is important to remember unflavoured does not mean no flavour, it does taste uniquely like pea protein. However, those who simply cannot stomach it must have been getting used to these cute soft fruit flavours for a little too long. The taste is not bad, and in my opinion quite good, just accept it, have it for a week and you will soon be drinking it with no problem, and who knows maybe some pleasure. I feel adding to it anything but water is unnecessary as it only makes whatever you add it to taste 'off' or different, something no one is ever ready for. Other than that I have found it highly effective and MyProtein have been as sick as ever!Goes Well With:water, keep it simple
Don't try mixing with water, as it tastes like mushy peas (without the salt to mask the flavour!) not great after a workout. Mixing with milk masks the taste slightly, however I've found better results with other proteinsGoes Well With:Milk
It's a little grainy and if not blended thoroughly can have a thick residue, and needs a fruit cordial to make it taste nice, but it's providing adequate protein at a competitive price, and better for the environment than soya. So worth trying if you are vegan like me and require a protean boost for gym practice Goes Well With:Any vegan milk, but with fruit cordial
As a vegan lifter, I was advised to mix pea and soy proteins for a better range of aminos. This powder is not ideal for sweet or dessert smoothies if you don't add intense flavouring and sweeteners to it. However, it is EXCELLENT for baking- the flour-like consistency is a great binder and yields satisfying protein breads, pancakes and cookies (example- mixed with oats, maple syrup, cinnamon, walnuts and raisins - fab cookies). I also found it an great thickener for savoury soups and Asian dishes. Given its nutty flavour, I mixed it into a paste with chestnuts and some stevia and use it as a low fat peanut butter-like spread with berry jelly on toast. It's very filling and a great protein source - if you're creative, you'll adore it.Goes Well With:Savoury dishes, baking, as a paste with sweet fruit
I really like this pea protein. It mixes well and is great with mashed banana or in a smoothie.Goes Well With:Banana
This is great because it doesn't contain any gluten or dairy. I was a bit disappointed when I tried mixing it as a plain protein shake as it really isn't pleasant and I couldn't even take one mouthful without heaving! BUT now I've tried to mix a few things with it and I am using these as an after workout protein bump. Try these two tasty recipes with 28g of Pea Protein: 250ml Alpro Original Almond Milk (sweetened) 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder OR 250ml Alpro Unsweetened Almond Milk 1 Banana 4-5 pieces frozen mango 4-5 pieces frozen pineapple Handful Fresh Spinach Goes Well With:Sweetened Almond Milk & Cocoa Powder Unsweetend Almond Milk, Banana, Mango, Pineapple & Spinach
Makes a thicker kinda consistency.... really nice with some cocoa powder and cayenne pepperGoes Well With:Cocoa powder and cayenne pepper
Lovely slow release protein for those who can't have dairy but want high protein content. Mixes well just wish there was flavoured choices!Goes Well With:Flavour syrup, baking
On its own the taste leaves a lot to he desired, the consistency is very thick which is perfect for smoothies, if you add some bananas and peanut butter the taste is quite good but it is way too thick to drink as a protein shake after the gym.Goes Well With:Bananas + Peanut butter + Cinnamon + Ice
This is probably the worst protein I have ever tasted. Genuinely nearly got sick after tasting it, if you are looking for an alternative to milk look else wear. In saying that, all other my protein products i have tried are fantastic and i suppose what can you really expect from protein made from peas :)
Have been using pea protein daily in my smoothies for over a year and find it to be easy to mix and digest. I did not get on with whey protein but have not had any digestive problems with the pea protein. The taste takes a bit of getting used to - i put some extra dates in my smoothie at first but soon reduced them. Its not a horrible taste, just a bit unusual! My protein is by far the cheapest source that i have found and as far as I can tell, the quality is great. Goes Well With:avocado, banana, cacao, nut butter and coconut milk
Sorry guys, but this is the worst tasting thing I have ever tasted. Tried to mix it with coconut milk, with almond and coconut milk, with cow milk and cocoa and flavourings, with just water and flavourings, with orange juice, with tropical fruit juice, the overwhelming pea flavour is simply too strong. It makes me puke. I have tried to mix one scoop with three eggs, some peas and onions and I've cooked a frittata but still you could feel that disgusting taste. Maybe this can be used for some baking but it would make no sense with all the extra carbs sugar calories and stuff. I just need to drink this three times a day, possibly with water. This product is not fit for that purpose. Goes Well With:NOTHING
Gritty and dusty texture even when mixed, but good cheap vegan protein sourceGoes Well With:Banana
I've tried hemp and rice protein but this is by far the best. I don't like sweet drinks so the slightly savoury taste is ideal. I mix it with about a scoop of water using a chopstick, to make a paste, then add a little more water to make a cream, finally topping up with oatly or other non-dairy drinks to make it runny. There is the odd lump but they are not unpleasant! It makes a satisfying drink and I don't have a problem with the texture, which is very fine. This is a great product as I want to break free of dairy - it's a cruel industry and the cows suffer greatly to supply the huge and unnecessary demand for milk their calves should be drinking, not us humans. Goes Well With:oat and nut milks
Don't bother mixing this with anything! I assumed it would taste like kaka so I immediately made a smoothie using blueberries almond milk etc ... No no no. It taste far better on its own. Just mix with water and ice. It still tastes a little earthy but it has so many benefits apart from just being a great source of protein! And it's amazing for cooking with, I made the best protein pancakes with this! Goes Well With:Water and ice! Great for cooking!
