I was reluctant to go back onto antidepressants because of the less than pleasant side effects, but I was getting pretty desperate to do something. I was tearful all the time & my head was like cotton wool. I certainly wasn't able to function properly at work & had no recollection of some events at all. I was contemplating resigning as I couldn't cope. I stumbled across a recommendation for Inositol & am taking it with Choline Bitartrate as another reviewer recommended. So far it's been less than a week & although I'm not saying it's a miracle cure, it feels pretty amazing. Placebo effect? I don't know, time will tell. The change in my ability to go about my life without fear of bursting into tears or my head exploding from the anxiety I was suffering is worth 100 times the price. If it's a placebo effect, I don't care, the mind is a very powerful force, so long may it continue
Have started taking this for anxiety - remarkably effective within a couple of weeks. Nit the easiest thing to mix though - I like to blend it up with a protein shake to disguise the flavour.Goes Well With:Protein shake mixes
I use this with taurine and magnesium citrate to relax after a long day and improve my sleep/overall mood. It seems to work well and I have slept like a baby lately. Powder mixes well and there is almost no taste at all.Goes Well With:taurine, magnesium citrate
Life saver should panic attacks lurk in the offing. Mine started lurking about four weeks ago, so I immediately started on half a flat teaspoon (about 1.2 g?) three times a day. It works immediately and I haven't had a problem since. Taste is very slightly sweet and pleasant with it. The mixability doesn't seem as good as my last MP inositol batch which was very fine powder, like icing sugar. This batch seems more granular and doesn't dissolve as easily. But so what? It still does the business.Goes Well With:Feelings of peace!
I've been buying inositol from Myprotein for 2 years now, after reading a couple of articles about its effectiveness for treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder. I've suffered from severe OCD for about 21 years. My OCD has always tended to gravitate towards obtrusive thought patterns, but the weird ticks have been there as well - touch the light switch with both hands at the same time, that kind of nonsense. Anyway since taking Inositol at 5g's, and then upping to 10g's in the last year - be warned it can produce negative effects on your digestive system at first, diarrhoea, cramps etc. So start at a low dose and gradually up it to a level were you feel your symptoms being reduced. Also be patient, and don't expect any miracles over night. I'd say it took at least 3 - 4 months before I noticed any considerable reductions in my ocd. I hope I don't jinx the benefits I've received while taking Inositol, but in 2 years I've gone from being riddled with obtrusive thoughts and the anxiety this state of mind can generate. To rarely exhibiting any ocd tendencies, and even when I do get the off obtrusive thought it carries with it no weight or importance - I just shrug it off and move on. I've also managed to ditch my 8 year prescription of Escitalopram thanks to Inositol. It's been a bit if roller coaster ride these last few months, but I'm still here to tell and tale - ssri withdrawal is no walk in the park. I only wish someone would have handed me a bag of Inositol all those years ago instead of that pharmaceutical garbage, which helped neither my anxieties, depression or ocd; but introduced a plethora of side effects instead. Anyway I can't rate this stuff enough, but remember everyone's different; so what worked for me might not work for you and vice versa.
The inositol I have just received mixes extremely well and the taste is great, it is actually almost absolutely tasteless. I can put 500-600 mg in less than 100 ml of water then just give it a stir and it dissolves perfectly. I recommend it to everyone as it protects your liver also promotes fat metabolism and has many other benefits as well. I find it even better than the inositol I had from other sources before.
I believe that the other reviewer is correct. From what Ihave read you should not take inositol and SSRIs together because of the risk of serotonin syndrome which can be fatal.
"I tried this as part of an Anti-estrogenic diet I was advised to follow following some pretty severe physical and mental health problems. Having had issues with lowering the dose of my anti-depressant drugs, this helped me cope with the revised dose and come off the drugs all together. I keep taking it and have not had any re-lapses and feel fab. It is really easy to mix and is a little bit sweet so can be taken straight from the scoop, in a protein shake or mixed into porridge/yoghurt. Truly excellent!"
There are many studies that show inositol as a useful aid for the treatment but I feel it is my duty to reply the previous comment that it MUST not be used in conjunction with SSRI's as there is a high risk of serotonin syndrome.
