Overview

Psyllium husk is an excellent source of soluble dietary fibre derived from the small herbaceous plant Plantago. Dietary fibre can help promote regularity and support heart health as well as helping with satiety after meals.

Psyllium Husk Powder can be a convenient way to increase your intake of dietary fibre. It has the ability to swell up to 50 times its initial volume when added to liquid which plays an important role in maintaining regularity and gastrointestinal health. It has also been shown to help lower cholesterol.

A daily fibre intake of at least 25 grams is recommended for good health, but on average people consume only 10 to 15 grams.

Psyllium husk is often used in high fibre breakfast cereals to boost the fibre content.

Warning: Without drinking enough liquid this product may swell in the throat, causing blockage or choking. Avoid use if you have ever suffered from esophageal narrowing or swallowing difficulties.

Horrible texture but I am very funny with textures (can't generally drink anything thicker than water). I mix it with ~100ml water and superfood xs, down it and follow it with about another pint of water. It does the job well enough for me to continue drinking what feels like a glass of dandruff every morning.

I must say I am surprised how efficient this product is. I used apple fibre before changing to this stuff but this is much better and cheaper too. I take 2x4 small scoops but I think I try 3x4 or even 4x4 as my diet is pretty poor in fibre.

Having been on a high protein diet recently I found that I had quite a few digestive issues. My friend recommended these to me and asked to give them a try. After 3 days of taking them I kept getting bad wind-like pain in my abdomen, After about 30 minutes I felt "the rush" I had been warned about coming on. Just got home in time to experience the world falling out of me but ever since then I have had miles better movements, regular and soft (but not runny). Now an absolute staple in my diet and can't live without.

This stuff works! But it must be taken with plenty of water. Pour a glassful of water (about 200ml) into your shaker, add a small MP scoop or a rounded teaspoonful of the product, close lid, shake very well for 3 seconds and drink as quickly as possible before it starts to thicken. Then drink another glass of water on top. Putting the dry powder into your mouth and washing it down is definitely *not* advisable. If you're also taking creatine you will be drinking plenty of water thoughout the day anyway but if not on creatine then drink lots of water both with this product and during the day; the results are excellent, goodbye constipation. I take it twice a day, with breakfast and with my evening meal so it helps digestion by adding extra fibre. It's a lot heathier for everyone, training or not, to have proper and regular digestive "throughput" and this stuff does the trick and does it well. I think it is good that this is a finer powder rather than the whole husks. And it's a lot cheaper than buying "Fybogel" at the chemist, which has the same ingredient bulked out with artificial sweetners and colourings so cut out the chemicals, get this stuff instead and do your body a favour.

Ok, i brought this as i have always suffered with bad stomach . On the reviews here its supposed to help the flow, ease suffering with digestion and generally keep a healthy body. Someone mentioned in the reviews here of the "flush" of the system that they got. I have been taking this now for just over a week and at first i didnt get anything. Now im getting the flush. Its pretty disgusting but my stomach is so much better. Ill note the benefits i have received while taking this and also the negative. Benefits: -Irregular bowel movements have gone. I now go every morning. -I suffered with heart burn with some foods like chilli and orange juice. This has now gone completely. (very impressed with this) -Cramps have now gone. - No longer gassy. ( my high protein diet gave me really bad wind, could blow someones syrup of there sweed. -Just generally feeling more comfortable. -Nervous ache (job interviews etc) is less. Negative: - Stools are very smelly. -The flush was a bit of a shock at first which lasted only 1 day but i think a warning should be put on the label that you may have to book a day of sick or holiday when that day comes because all your going to be doing nothing but crap. - Taste, Some people have said its not that bad. But for me even with orange juice it still makes me gag sometimes. All in all i would deffenatly recommend this product. For the cheap price and sense of calmness in my guts its a no brainer really. I would have brought it just for the heartburn cure alone. Dean

Was pleasantly surprised at the texture of this product and its mixability. When taking other powders I sometimes just scoop some into my mouth then down with water like pills... big mistake doing that with psyllium husks! It stuck to the roof of my mouth and i had to scrub hard to get it off. Mixed in a shake or just mixed properly with water it is a good product though.

Way 'back in the day' the Iron guru, Vince Gironda, would advocate taking Psyllium before sleep to support digestion, bowel movement and colon health. I now add a little more then MP. suggest (but start with their guide at first) adding it to my morning Oats which I have with hot water and protein powder. I drink a pint of water with breakfast and have found only positive results from using this product. Much cheaper then anywhere else, especially conventional health food stores. Now a staple of my food plan :)

As someone simply looking for a smooth and regular digestive system, I've discovered strirring just 1-2 g of Psyllium Husks into my morning orange juice works brilliantly.Others mention the taste, or the way it doesn't mix, but it doesn't seem to flavour the orange juice at all, and the result is very much like orange juice with 'juicy bits' - quite nice in fact. At 1-2g a day, a 100g pouch lasted around 2 months, but I'm back for the 500g bag because it's definitely now part of my daily routine.

Just finishing up my first half-kilo pouch, and back for more. MP's suggested starting dose is sensibly low since people can react differently to this sort of supplement. I've found that a level 15ml scoop of the powder mixed with plenty of water, taken first thing in the morning works for me. I like to stir it and leave it to stand for about 2 minutes before drinking to ensure it has absorbed some of the water first. The taste is not pleasant though not really unpleasant either, just a bit mushroomy. If you chew it a bit while drinking, there is some grittiness, which I'm surprised no one else has mentioned. These minor negatives just lose half a point in the overall rating though. The important thing is that it gives a comfortable, wind-free digestive system, and happy movements, without any of the harshness, irritation or salt and sugar of high-fibre breakfast cereals. It's great that MP offer psyllium husk in sensible quantities at a good price. Once you've tried it, you'll want to continue using it.

Firstly I have to say that these things taste like all bran but are totally and utterly un-chewable. So you mix them in a liquid to successfully eat them. They add a nice texture to food, such as porridge or your morning shake and, believe me, they reset your bowel movements. Eating a lot of protein has a side effect of increasing the number of visits to the old throne. Taking this stuff regulates you back to normal and also clears you out. Great stuff these husks and well cheap. Just on the 100g pouch at the mo and they have totally eliminated the 'Flatulence' I was experiencing eating the mybars. If you are having issues with your bowels..etc then I would recommend trying these to see if they help. They did in my case. Just make sure you drink plenty of water as these babies swell up.

Like a lot of the people on this site, we want a quick fix, something that will fill you up without adding too many calories and therefore result in weight loss. The only true way to get a six pack is weight loss, there is no point in doing 600 sit ups if it is hidden behind fat. SO Psyllium husks are good, and here they are relatively cheap (+P&P of course) but don't go overboard, I added so much to my protein shakes I was almost sick as it does not mix in well. The best results I got were from mixing it with soya milk and adding some bran cereal and oats to make a super rich porridge that would fill me up without the empty calories

This is quite possibly one of the most underrated, yet most effective supplements out there. No, it won't make you stronger or enhance your performance. But what it will do is ensure that that you have absolutely perfect digestion, every single day, day in, day out. The overwhelming majority of people don't get anywhere near enough dietary fibre from the typical Western diet, and low levels of fibre are linked to an enormous number of digestive and degenerative illnesses. These husks are dirt cheap (especially compared to a certain high-street health food shop that charges an extortionate amount for them), pretty tasteless, a bit like sand (you don't need much of the powder), and will guarantee to keep everything running \"smoothly\" at all times. They are an absolute no brainer to add to your shakes for additional dietary fibre.
